Jealousy was such an irrational emotion. He couldn't explain why he was jealous. He shouldn't be jealous, not of anyone or anything. He was an Original Hybrid. He was the strongest creature on earth, ever. He had nothing to be jealous of.

But he was.

He was jealous of Tyler Lockwood, who had everything.

He'd gotten something Klaus had wanted for hundreds of years by simply ending one measly life; to be a werewolf. The power to kill vampires, send them cowering, put them in unbearable pain, end them if they provoked him. Power, immeasurable power. Strength more than that of the vampires.

And he hated it. He wanted it gone. He couldn't take the pain that was necessary for anything great. He couldn't bear it.

Klaus took the pain away. Klaus made him a hybrid, giving him control on when he changed, if he had to change. Klaus made him stronger than all vampires and all werewolves. Klaus took away the pain that came with the "curse" of being a werewolf.

And what did Tyler do? Tyler hated him. Betrayed him to his friends. Plotted against him. Rebelled against the sire bond.

And there was the girl. Tyler had Caroline Forbes, who Klaus would admit was the most beautiful thing he had ever seen in his entire existence. Caroline deserved so much better than Tyler, the foolish hybrid who had bitten her. Klaus knew that if his love for Caroline had been strong enough he would have broken the sire bond. He wouldn't have bitten her. Caroline deserved the world. Klaus could give it to her.

But she wouldn't give him a glance because she thought she loved Tyler.

Tyler had incredible power that Klaus had given him and the girl Klaus could only dream of, yet Tyler would look on with jealousy and hatred as Klaus tried to get Caroline to even look at him with anything other than distaste.

He had no fucking right.

He was jealous of Stefan Salvatore, who never believed he had everything.

Stefan had friends and a brother who loved him. Stefan could make people love him by showing them one side of himself, and even when they hated him they loved him. They would do anything for him when he embraced his ripper nature.

Stefan had never been alone in his life, and he would never be. He had always had friends and he would always have friends. His brother would always care for him, even if he got the girl. Elena would always choose him if she continued on, blindfolded to Damon's love for her, only ever distracted by Damon.

He would always have it all.

Klaus had given him something to make them hate him. Klaus had shown Stefan and all those people that they couldn't truly hate him, not even when Stefan became what Stefan himself hated. Klaus had given him a target to point at and blame for everything.

Klaus had given him someone to hate so Stefan wouldn't hate himself.

Klaus had true affection for Stefan. Stefan was his brother as much as Kol was.

Stefan hated Klaus. And everyone who loved Stefan hated Klaus.

They knew nothing.

He was jealous of the doppelganger.

Always someone who would love her. Always two people who would do anything for her. Die to keep her alive. Love her.

People who worshipped her and saw only the good in her. Friends and a family that would always keep her safe. Her importance over their own. Protected by all. She would be protected because people loved her.

They would keep her safe not out of compulsion, but because they needed to. Because they wanted to.

There were people who others would die for without being asked.

And then there were those who had to force others to even care.

Klaus knew which one he was, Klaus was jealous of all of the first.
