Summer was always hot on Skyloft. Being in the sky, and closer to the sun, it was the longest season. It was also always blazing heat that came in visible waves. It came with many great things, however, that made the heat worth it.

It came with swimming. Pipit was a man, he could admit that he enjoyed seeing a woman in her swimming clothes. Hell, after what happened when he was fifteen he had to admit it. It also came with gardens. Food that could only be grown in the hot summer time was planted, to be harvested three months later. Summer brought the new loftwings. Baby birds which had been hatched in the spring finally old enough to come meet their new partners for life.

Perhaps the most attractive part of summer was the other thing it brought. Tans. Men became toned and dark in the summer—a good tan did a lot of good for a man. It highlighted his muscles and darkened their abs. Women swooned far more often in the summer for Groose and Link.

Women as well were tanned. There was something undeniably sexy about the tan lines left behind by their bras they wore to swim. Pipit found this to be exceptionally true when it came to Karane. She was naturally tan to an extent, but the summer made her blossom into a honey colored angel.

Unfortunately for Pipit, he was the sole resident of Skyloft who wouldn't be a deep, sexy shade of tan. Pipit was aware of it in advance. There was just something about him. It was a condition that afflicted his father too, before he passed away.

Freckles.

Pipit never tanned. Not once in his life had he been a sexy tan, instead he was always either pale, or less pale. Not a sickening pale, but a peachy, average pale. Littered with freckles that made him look a little darker than he was.

But unfortunately while everyone else was getting tan and sexy, he was getting blotchy and burnt. And that burn didn't even fade into a tan! It only resulted in more freckles on his shoulders and chest. He'd spent his whole life being self conscious about those freckles. Thinking they were a blemish.

He would probably think that forever, if not for the occasional comment from his girlfriend that they were cute.
