Stella: I've always loved SoulxMaka shipping. And the fact that Soul could play the piano! So thus, this one shot was born! I hope you enjoy. Please review!

"Okay, Soul! I think I got it now." Maka attempted to repeat the simple string of notes that Soul played for her on the piano. For the 24th time. They both flinched as she pressed the wrong keys causing more dissonance to reverberate in the small room.

"Ahhh, Maka! C'mon. This is so uncool." Soul groaned and replayed the notes.

"I'm sorry, Soul! Piano isn't as easy as swinging around a scythe…"

"You're right. It's easier. Just pay attention to my fingers this time." He muttered impatiently.

"Right..."

He repeated the notes again, but this time more slowly. Maka listened intently to the melody he was playing. It wasn't dark like his usual songs. It was a melancholy sounding song. It was sad, yet hopeful.

"Alright, let me try one more time." Maka moved her hands slowly over the piano and finally played the first note right. Then the second, then the third and so on.

"Wow, Soul I got it! Did you see me? Did you hear me?" She started jumping around excitedly around the usually calm Soul.

"Yeah, yeah. Congrats. Alright, next one."

He moved his fingers gracefully over the white keys and a few black keys. Soul played twice as many notes this time.

Maka sweatdropped, "You really expect me to play that?"

"Yeah. Here, I'll guide you through it."

Soul took his hand and put his over Maka's. Slowly, he guided her hand and helped her play all the right notes. She stared in amazement, not being able to believe she could produce such a pretty melody even with a guide.

She looked over at Soul, "You're amazing at the piano, you know that?"

He smirked, "Yeah, I guess I'd say I'm pretty cool."

Maka slipped her hand from Soul's and stared at him.

"What's up?" He asked, noticing her stare.

She continued to gaze at him, "Well, it's not like we'll really get anywhere if it's just me playing and I really want to hear the rest of this song."

"That's why we're having lessons. You'll learn it eventually."

Maka pouted, "Yeah, that's true but I really do want to listen to all of it."

She looked at him with pleading eyes until he sighed in defeat and gave in.

"Fine, but you better listen carefully because I'm only playing it once." He placed his fingers carefully on the notes he was going to play.

It was like something she's never heard before. It was sad, but beautiful at the same time. The notes played endlessly in the pool of music and Soul's fingers moved gracefully across the piano. Maka stared in awe, her eyes watering from the alluring piece of music. As the notes became softer and slower, the room filled with silence after he played the last key.

"H-hey, why'd you stop?"

"Because the song's over." Soul replied nonchalantly.

"It was really beautiful, Soul. Did you write the song yourself?"

"Yeah, I did. It's not as cool as my other songs, but-"

"What're you talking about! I'd prefer that song over your dark, scary ones. Just..something about that song…" Maka trailed off.

Soul scratched his head, "You like it that much, huh?"

"No, I love it!" She winked at him.

Streaks of pink made its way on Soul's cheeks, "That's cool. Because I…I wrote it for you…"

He looked away, face burning red from embarrassment. They remained silent for a minute until Maka placed a hand on his shoulder.

"Thank you, Soul. Really." She smiled and gave him a light kiss on his cheek.

Soul cleared his throat, "Umm, well that's our lesson for today, so be prepared for next time." He started to get up and make his way out.

"Yeah, I can't wait!" Maka grinned and ran next to Soul as they left the room. As they walked, Maka started humming the song. Her song.
