The forest appeared peaceful and calm. The bird Pokémon chirped as the golden sun slowly rose up, its striking rays peeked through the strong, branches coated with colourful leaves, that were bound to the tall trees. Deep in the woodland was a small, crystal river flowing tranquilly down the hill. At the top of the knoll was a large, ancient rock, where a young man around the age of seventeen sat, enjoying the sight of his two Pokémon splashing and playing in the water. Both Pokémon appeared extremely powerful. However, upon closer inspection, something about the two creatures seemed fairly strange. With every step that the beautiful, cream coloured Pokémon took, steam escaped from around its slender paws. As if the creature's body heat, caused the water around itself to boil and evaporate. Its large, sapphire eyes, glistened in the sunlight as it pounced, playfully onto the much smaller Pokémon beside it. The yellow rodent, flopped back into the water with a splash. On its flank, engraved deeply into its skin was a large scar, weathered by age and blacken by the elements. It's broad size and many cross ridges portrayed what a deep and ghastly wound it had once been.

The young man looked at the pair and the corners of his mouth lifted into a gentle smile. The friendly battling reminded the boy how much fun it had once been. He loved Pokémon battles all his life, unfortunately one day not so long ago; a few years ago to be precise, something happened which changed his life forever. Now, as he lay down on the lush grass he wondered, what it would be like to battle once again. As he looked up, the sun's rays struck his slightly tanned face revealing; a rough scar. A raw chasm of puckered flesh, paler than the tone of his skin, toughened by wind, grit and years. The wound stretched from the top of his right eye, down to his defined cheekbone. It stood, as a permanent reminder of his painful past. The man recalled, the awful day when both he and his partner were scarred for life. The teen shivered slightly. Then, unexpectedly, he ran his index finger across the wound. He knew it would never vanish completely, and therefore the memory of that fateful day would live alongside him, until his very death. The boy looked over at the smaller one of his Pokémon; he knew that fate wasn't as generous to his partner as it was to him. The small creature was prevented from battling ever again, as its body fought to repair itself. Ever since the terrible occurrence, a local nurse Joy had offered to help, providing the rodent with physiotherapy to slowly, allow it to recover its mobility. Even with her aid however, after many years of support, the Pokémon was unable to fully heal and recover. The boy's mind was filled with painful recollections, as well as a promise. A promised he had made with the mouse, if it couldn't battle, neither would he and thus ending his lifelong dream of becoming a Pokémon master. He shook his head slightly, in an attempt to push all the recollections to the back of his mind, before rolling onto his back. His glassy, blue eyes stared into the cloudless sky for a moment before closing. His gloved hand reached across the grass, until his fingers gripped onto a coal, black cap. He bought the cap closer and placed it onto his face, covering it from the warmth of the sunlight. He relaxed his arms beside his body. The gentle, warm breeze ruffled his messy, raven hair and caused his long black cloak to sway faintly.

The teen could hear the cheerful voices of his Pokémon, in the distance, as they played in the water. He chucked softly before departing for dreamland...
