"Parting is such sweet sorrow." -Romeo and Juliet, William Shakespeare

Epic, Dan has often though, is overrated. Romeo wouldn't have died if he had stayed in love with Rosaline. Juliet would have had a long happy life with Paris. He could have made her happy. He probably knew what her favorite movies were, where she liked to go for dinner, the way she liked to be kissed when her neck met her shoulder.

Paris probably knew all these things about his Juliet. Romeo wouldn't have bothered. Epic love is too concerned with destiny and fate to get involved with the little things. Paris probably loved her though, loved her so much that his heart hurt, but in a good way.

Paris would have done anything for her. Paris would have lied for her, protected her from what he could, let her face her demons, but made sure that he was always there, holding her hand. She could lose everything, but Paris would be there. Waiting patiently like always.

Yeah, and maybe Juliet's epic love was Romeo, but maybe Juliet was Paris' epic love. Maybe he couldn't imagine loving anyone else ever again because he knew that no other girl would be quite as beautiful, quite as witty, quite as her as his Juliet.

It wasn't like it mattered. Paris died in the end anyway. Poor bastard. He still loved her, the girl who would throw him away without a thought in the name of epic love. He honestly thought she would pick him in the end, that they would be together always. That they might be happy.

Idiot.

He was just an obstacle in the way, a pawn in their epic game. He was never important. Juliet was important. Romeo was important. But…Paris? No one remembered Paris. His funeral was probably small, attended by his father, his sister and a blonde girl that loved him.

A blonde girl that though he would rescue her, thought that he was her epic love. A blonde girl he never cared for, not really. He loved Juliet and so the blonde girl didn't matter.

Poor Paris. In the ground and the only girl who cries is one that he didn't love, didn't want.

At least, that's what Dan thinks.
