Enjoy chapter 19 guys. :D
Blaze shook the water from his fur as he clambered out of the crystal clear sea and onto the beach. He'd misjudged his landing when parachuting in and had landed in the sea, but luckily he hadn't landed far from the shore.
Blaze breathed a large sigh of relief as he looked out at the stretch of water that he'd just swam across. I hope the others got down okay…
It was then that he remembered what Ace had told him on the ship: Okay so when ya get down dere, report in through your com… Blaze looked down at the communicator on his arm, pressed one of the small buttons on it and raised it to his mouth. "Uh… guys, you there? This is Blaze, can you hear me?" spoke the tiger into his com. But there was no reply… The only sound that could be heard was the crash of the waves against the shoreline… He tried again "Ace… Rev… Any of you guys there?"
Blaze did this again and again for a few minutes, with still no reply. He had no idea where his friends were or if they were in danger, but what he did know was that he needed to find them…
-o-
Elsewhere, Rev and Slam had been fortunate enough to land close together, and had met up. They had experienced the same thing Blaze had when trying to report to the others. They just couldn't understand it, first the ship, then the jetpacks and now the communicators weren't working…
"C'mon-Slam-buddy, we-gotta-find-the-others!" Rev called to his teammate as he climbed over the large protruding root of a tree. The two Loonatics had been trekking through the thick jungle that covered a lot of the island for a while now, trying to locate their friends.
Whatever this planet was, it was beautiful. If there was a paradise, then this was cutting it pretty close… Could this really be the place that the missile had been launched from?
"Yebeyo uhi gija bi habwe!" observed Slam as he continued to admire this mysterious place.
Rev chuckled "I'd-like-a-holiday-here-too-Slam! Could-definitely-get-my-bird-tan-on-here!"
The pair continued on for a few minutes, calling for their friends continually with no reply. There was suddenly a loud rumble and Rev stiffened as he put his guard up. But he relaxed when he realised that the culprit was in fact Slam's stomach.
Slam blushed slightly "Hihi, wowwy…" he mumbled shyly.
Rev smiled and shook his head. "What-are-we-gunna-do-with-you-big-guy?"
Slam uttered a deep chuckle, but his shy expression changed to a threatened and suspicious one when he noticed something appear from the thick bushes behind Rev. It appeared that their loud calling had attracted some unwanted attention…
-o-
"Guys? GUUUYS!" shouted Duck as he jogged through the jungle. He too had been searching for his teammates for a while after having no luck with his communicator either. He had to admit to himself, he was starting to get worried about them.
Soon he came across an open clearing with an unusually high tree in the middle of it. If I get to the top of that, maybe I can get an idea of where I am reasoned the mallard. "What a shame I'm not a good climber…" he said out loud, with false disappointment. "Oh wait!" with that, he disappeared and quacked to the top of the tree. "Man I love being me!" he sighed arrogantly.
The tree was taller than Duck thought. He could see for a few hundred metres in every direction, but it was all jungle. Duck took a mighty breath before shouting as loud as his lungs would let him. "GUUUUUUUUUYS!"
He listened for any kind of reply from within the dense jungle below, but still nothing. He was just about to give up and quack back down, but then he noticed out of the corner of his eye something white floating above the greenery of the trees. A parachute…
-o-
Lexi was still sitting with her back up against the tree, waiting for regular breathing to return as she was still winded.
Lexi had unintentionally landed in a very thick-forested patch and had crashed into a tree, badly winding herself in the process so she was now taking a much needed time out. She'd been trying her com for a few minutes now, but same as with the others; nothing…
"Come on guys, anybody th-″ said Lexi into her com once more, but she stopped mid-sentence when her super hearing picked up the sound of someone else!
"GUUUUUUUYS!" came the distant call.
Despite it coming from far away, Lexi knew exactly who had made that shout; Duck!
Lexi had hardly ever felt so glad to hear the mallard's voice before. After recovering from being winded, she started to call Duck's name as loud as she could.
She wasn't sure if Duck would be able to hear her from where she was so she had started to walk towards where her teammate's voice had come from, whilst still calling his name.
She hadn't been walking too long when Duck suddenly quacked behind his female teammate. "Hey there sister!"
Lexi jumped in surprise and instinctively spun around and swung a punch at whatever was behind her.
Duck stumbled backwards as his cheek felt the full force of a Lexi Bunny punch. "Oww! What are you doing Lexi?!" he complained as he rubbed his cheek. "I come to save you and THAT'S the thanks I get?!" he added sulkily.
"Oops, sorry Duck…" apologised Lexi, cringing. "You okay?"
Duck gave her an obnoxious look. "Better when I wasn't being attacked to be honest!"
Lexi smiled as she rolled her eyes. He'll never change will he… "So, have you had any luck getting through to the guys?" she asked, changing the subject. "My com isn't working…"
Duck dismissively shook his head. "Same here, I don't know what the heck is going on with everything at the moment!"
Lexi took a moment to think things over. "Guess we better find the others. They've gotta be around somewhere…" the doe reasoned.
Duck agreed. "I know right! I mean we're on an Island, they can't play hide and seek forever!"
Lexi chuckled. "Right, let's go."
But just as they were about to set off, there was a rustling from deep within the woods, which only Lexi was able to pick up. "Did you hear that Duck?" she quizzed as she suspiciously looked around.
"Y'know Lexi, I know you have super, ultra hearing and all, but sometimes I really think you're just hearing things!" Duck replied rudely.
Lexi tutted "A simple yes or no answer would have done Duck…" she groaned. She kept her ears open for any more unusual sounds but could pick up nothing. Maybe it was nothing… she thought reluctantly, but still gazed around watchful. And the doe was right to be suspicious, because they weren't alone…
-o-
Ace clambered up the last boulder and was finally at the top of the tall rock formation he had just climbed. He'd had the same reasoning as Duck in wanting to get high up to get a good look around.
Ace surveyed his surroundings and was disappointed. Trees, trees and more trees… Trees where pretty much all that the leader of the Loonatics had seen since he had landed. Where are dem guys… he wondered.
"GUUUUYS!" Ace shouted to the world. "CAN ANYONE HEAR ME?"
Ace stayed on that rock for a while, thinking, listening, waiting… He watched the planet's fiery blue-coloured sun slowly disappear below the trees. It was a beautiful sight…
Can't stay here forever Ace said to himself. He started make his way down the other side of the ridge that he had just climbed, doing so with ease. The need to find his teammates was starting to get urgent for Ace now as it was getting dark.
I've got te find dem… the buck said to himself as he jumped onto one of the rock formation's ledges. He eyed up his next jump: the forest floor. He could make out a gap in the canopy of trees below him.
He darted off the ledge and shot down towards the small hole. He dived through the gap perfectly, did a graceful somersault before landing powerfully on the ground. The impact sent out a jet of air, throwing up the dead leaves that were lying peacefully on the floor. But Ace wasn't the only one who was making noise.
All around, the bushes started to shake violently. Ace quickly got to his feet; that shaking was definitely not being caused by the wind. "Dat better not be you prankin' me Duck…" he called suspiciously, even though he really hoped that it was his teammate.
But his fears were realised when something appeared from the bushes all around him, and it wasn't his teammates…
Ace stared deeply at one of the creatures. It was quite short, but it was one of the most sinister looking creatures Ace had ever seen. It was black in colour from head to toe, covered in fur with claw-like hands, and strangely, its head was covered with a hood like garment and a dark steam-like aura was emanating from where its face should have been. But the most disturbing looking thing about this mysterious being was the pair of evil eyes that stared at Ace through the shadow that the hood cast on its face. They were a pale blue colour, with no iris or pupil. The sight of them sent a shiver through Ace's body…
Considering the tension that was rending the air, all was very quiet. Ace stood rooted to the spot, glaring back at the creatures. A slight sick feeling tore at his stomach, he had to admit he was feeling nervous. C'mon Ace, get it togeder (together). It was then that he noticed that the creatures were starting to edge closer towards him. They were going to attack him…
Ace was just about to reach for his sword, when the silence was shattered by one of the creatures, who uttered a shrieking cry. And like dogs obeying the command of their master, they all attacked…
Ace immediately reacted as one of the creatures jumped at him, firing a quick laser blast at it. The creature shrieked as the blast hit it, and it disintegrated in a shroud of darkness. But Ace was suddenly in a very awkward spot as one of the creatures jumped on his back. The buck responded by reaching behind him, grabbing it, and flinging it off him over his shoulder, sending it crashing into a tree. But the onslaught continued…
Ace went defensive as the creatures started to take it in turns to throw slashes at him, but the buck was too quick, dodging them all, and even throwing in the odd counter punch too.
This cycle continued for a couple of minutes, with Ace comfortably holding off the creatures with his combat experience. But he'd need more than experience for what happened next…
The creatures suddenly stopped attacking. They all glared at Ace, a strange sort of anger seething in their ghostly eyes. The one who seemed to be their leader started to shriek at the others, who responded with a similar banshee-like noise. Ace prepared himself once more…
But he reeled in shock as all of the creatures suddenly disappeared in a black haze. Ace looked around suspiciously "What de he-″ but the buck was cut off as one of the creatures appeared right in front of him. He let out a surprised gasp as it jumped up and tackled the unprepared bunny to the twig-covered ground.
Ace struggled with the creature as it tried slashing at his face with its horrid, long claws. They were surprisingly strong for their size, and as if it couldn't get any worse, the rest of the band of creatures appeared all around him. Two of them jumped on Ace to help the one already wrestling him, while the rest stared down at the fallen leader evilly.
Ace's face had become covered in shallow cuts as the creature on top of him had caught him a couple of times while relentlessly slashing at his head. He could feel his strength and fighting spirit slowly diminishing as he begun to realise that he was fighting a lost cause.
But the creatures started to suddenly make confused noises as something crashed through the bushes not far away. Ace picked up a familiar voice "Get away from him…"
-o-
"What's-up-Slam?" queried Rev as he noticed the suspicious look Slam had. The roadrunner spun his head to see what the Tasmanian Devil was staring at. "Oh…"
Strange little black creatures with horrible pale blue eyes had started emerging from the bushes where Rev was looking. The two friends started to back up as more of the creatures appeared from the foliage. Slam uttered a low, threatening growl to try and intimidate them, but they carried on unaffected.
Rev gazed up at the Tasmanian Devil nervously. "I-think-we-should-get-outta-here-big-guy…" he reasoned.
But Slam gave him an objecting look. "Obliba ja huye biba!" he mumbled, pointing a chubby finger at the creatures- which were still pouring out of the bushes.
"I-know-they're-small! But-they're-scary-looking-and-there's-a-hell-of-a lot-more-of-them-than-us!" explained Rev, who flinched slightly as one of the bizarre creatures hissed at him.
Slam gave his smaller friend an amused look.
Rev frowned at the Tasmanian Devil's expression. "What?! I'm-not-scared-if-that's-what-you're-thinking-Slam ."
But Slam's grin became larger, and he winked down to the roadrunner cheekily.
Rev rolled his eyes. "Fine-have-it-your-way-then!"
They both turned back to face the creatures, which were still skulking towards them. They'd started to fan out too, slowly boxing the two Loonatics in.
"Okay Slam," began Rev as he cracked his knuckles "I'll distract them, you clean them up."
Slam nodded as his eyes turned purple and he uttered another threatening growl.
Rev's eyes turned red as he prepared to start running. "Let's light 'em up big guy!" and with that, the roadrunner zoomed straight towards the creatures.
The creatures let out an alarmed shriek as Rev darted in between them all, too fast for any of them to keep track of him.
With the creatures confused, Slam spun himself into his trademark purple tornado and charged to join his teammate.
-o-
Duck and Lexi came to a halt to catch their breath. "Think we… lost them?" asked Duck as he panted heavily.
Lexi surveyed the trees where they'd just come from. "I think so…"
The two Loonatics had been sprinting as fast as they could for the best part of 10 minutes. It had turned out that Lexi hadn't been hearing things, and they had been ambushed by the same creatures that had attacked Ace, Rev and Slam. They had fought them off at first, but as more and more kept coming and coming, Lexi and Duck had realised that the best thing for them to do was run.
Duck slumped to the forest floor, wiping the sweat that had accumulated on his forehead. "Those things were creepy!" noted Duck "They looked like the costumes that you see kids wearing on Halloween!"
Lexi chuckled as she joined the mallard on the floor. The two friends stayed in this position for a couple of minutes, wondering where their friends were and if they were okay. But their rest was short lived…
A familiar shriek erupted from deep within the forest. Lexi and Duck shot to their feet and looked around anxiously.
"Look out!" shouted Duck as he pointed behind them.
Lexi turned her head to see one of the horrible creatures hurtling through the air towards her. "Oh no you don't!" she taunted before firing a powerful brain blast at it, blowing it up in mid-air and leaving nothing but a black haze.
Duck let out a sigh of relief. "Nice shot Lexi!" he said admiringly.
Lexi beamed a smile "Thanks Duck."
"Of course I could have done better but still, nice one…" he added arrogantly as he watched the black haze slowly disappear.
Lexi snorted with contempt. "Just had to ruin it didn't you airhead?" she grumbled.
But the doe forgot about Duck's comment as her sensitive ears started to pick up a crashing sound from not too far away…
Lexi gestured to where the noise was coming from. "C'mon Duck!" she said as she began to run towards the noises.
It wasn't long that they'd been running and Duck had started to hear the crashing too. "What do you think's making that noise?" the mallard questioned. But his question was soon answered when a purple explosion erupted more amidst the tall trees.
Lexi and Duck looked at each other and smiled. "Slam!" said the two Loonatics together…
-o-
Ace looked in the direction that the familiar voice had come from, and his heart leapt in relief as he caught sight of Blaze.
The creatures jumped off of Ace and turned to confront this new figure, shrieking threateningly at him.
Blaze growled at them and his orange eyes burned brightly as he glared back at the inhuman creatures. "Ace, you okay?" the tiger asked as his attention moved to his leader.
Ace managed a weak nod, but he was still dazed.
Blaze turned his steely gaze back to the creatures. "You're gunna regret meeting me…" he said darkly, and with that, his eyes turned from orange to dark blue…
The mob of creatures all ran at him, mindlessly screeching and with their lethal claws bared.
Blaze likewise started to run at the creatures, undeterred by their superior numbers and fearsome appearance. As he neared them, he used his powerful leg muscles to jump high into the air and dive straight into the midst of the creatures, acrobatically landing on his hands. He then began to skilfully spin around wildly on his palms, kicking out as he did so to send the unprepared creatures flying in every direction.
Blaze then pushed off with his palms and landed back on his feet, but more of the creatures were instantly upon him, slashing at him with their sharp claws, shrieking all the while. But Blaze's brilliant reflexes helped him to dodge every single slash.
Ace watched the spectacle as he slowly got back to his feet. He watched his new teammate proudly. He really is somethin'… But Ace had no time to lament as he saw that some of the creatures had noticed that he had got back to his feet, and were now running to attack him. Ace wiped the blood from the cuts on his face, drew his Guardian Strike Sword, and prepared himself once more…
