I know this is quite late...but well, I'm back. For now, at least. I apologize if this chapter hasn't been proofread, I just wanted to get this out as soon I finished and was satisfied by it.
I hope you enjoy this chapter!
Gohan's POV
Usually, I couldn't say things like this could bother me; sure I've been followed and have had to be constantly on the alert side for the majority of my life whenever Dad or any of the other Z-fighters were targeted, but this somehow felt...different.
Because I wasn't being followed by my own race that was trying to murder me. Nor was it by a galactic emperor that murdered my father's family and my ancestors. And it certainly wasn't by androids sent to kill my father (again). Yeah, definitely not by a Bio-Android that had once made itself known to the world and constantly feared of until I finally defeated it.
Nope.
I was being followed by a human.
A female human, to be exact.
Yeah...I was being followed by none other than, yes, the World's Champion's daughter, Videl Satan.
It wasn't like I was afraid of her, she was human after all. But from what had happened earlier before school today, and the suspicious looks she'd been giving me during the entire class period a few minutes ago, I couldn't exactly ignore this kind of signs that almost screamed, 'She's onto you!'.
The moment class had ended, I didn't give a moment's notice to look back and quickly took off.
My mind raced at the thought of her looks she sent me during class, and I couldn't help but feel a shiver run down my spine. It wasn't that I was intimidates by her - no, far from that - it was just the thought that she possibly knew my secret, or was at least on the verge of finding out, is what scared me. I couldn't let that happen.
When lunch came, I did exactly as Lime had said and walked over to the rooftop.
It had taken me longer than I expected to after Videl persistently and "sneakily" followed me to my locker and on my way to the rooftop.
Although she hadn't known where I was going, I made sure she wouldn't know at all by, after making sure there wasn't anybody in sight, quickly disappearing at a corner and reappearing a few feet away, eyeing Videl's confused form form where she couldn't see me.
I sighed in relief when I finally reached the door to the rooftop. Turning on the handle, the door opened easily, and the first thing that hit me was a breeze of cool air.
Lime was not too far away, having her lunch box still shut as her back was turned to to me, looking outside the gates surrounding the rooftop. It was all fairly simple; large, metal gates surrounding the outer layer of the rooftop and a few benches scattered to the sides.
Having a view of the city this up high was kinda rare for anyone to see: but Lime and I always saw it everyday on our way back from training. It was nice all the same.
I smiled at the thought of the summer we had spent. It was fun spending it with Lime. She wasn't at all confusing like I've been told about girls, and she was always modest and kind to everyone, always sympathetic to those in need, and had the prettiest smile I had ever seen.
It felt nice to see her smile when she was around me. Because I was the one who was making her smile.
Almost after I had thought that, that fuzzy feeling came again. I inwardly cringed. I should really go ask Bulma what this was. Maybe it wasn't normal.
"Took you long enough!" A familiar voice called out, and I snapped my head to Lime's direction. She held a smile on her face as she waved me over to come sit beside her. The moment I had sat down, my stomach grumbled. "S-sorry." I blushed, feeling embarrassed at showing my obvious hunger to the girl beside me. She only giggled in response.
"Don't worry Gohan," she waved off my embarrassment, her smile never faltering, "I've packed us some food anyway. Or, at least extra. In case you're still hungry even after all the bento's your mom packed."
I couldn't help but smile. Dang, this girl really understood me. "Thanks Lime."
So the two of us ate in silence,
And then she talked.
"So..." she started slowly, looking at me carefully in the eye. My stomach dropped as I knew what was coming; nothing bad of course, but I didn't want to add some unnecessary worry to her. And besides, it was supposed to be a surprise!
"Y-yeah?" I gripped my hands tightly on my chopsticks, surprised that they hadn't broken from my strength alone.
"What's up with you and the 'Saviour of the World's' daughter?" She asked, pure curiousity in her voice. But from the way she looked up at me with such intensity made me want to tell her everything. But I didn't want to tell her all at once...
...not with a pair of eyes staring at us from inside the door that led to the roof.
Lime's POV
I felt the small ki the moment I asked him the question. It was definitely unfamiliar, but it wasn't at a dangerous level, so it was obviously just a regular human like me. But it didn't make me happy knowing that there was someone possibly spying on me and Gohan like that. Especially when he was finally going to tell me what was going on.
I bit the inside of my cheek in slight annoyance. And I was waiting all day for him to explain to me what was up with him and Videl this morning.
I looked at Gohan from the corner of my eye, and we both sent messages to each other through our eyes.
You feel that? My head tilted to the door.
He nodded. Yeah. It's not strong, so it's most likely a student here.
I didn't dare look at the door. A sinking feeling of suspicion was growing on me; only person that I could possibly think of could be spying on us. And even then, I didn't know her all too well to judge her like that, so it wasn't really helping me figure out this whole 'situation' that was happening.
It's Videl, isn't it? I gave him a deadpan look.
He shook his head.
...Why would it be her? I don't think she'd be spying on us like this.
I gave him a pointed look.
You never know.
I then sighed in exasperation. I really hoped it wasn't who I thought it was. Because honestly, it'd be really incredibly weird that she'd be spying on us for no apparent reason. Or so I think, Gohan hasn't told me anything yet.
Dang it.
I pouted.
Oh well, time to improvise...
"So, Gohan. How's it going with your mother? I heard she's been busier than ever now that it's almost Goten's birthday." I lied, winking at Gohan's confused face. He quickly picked up what I was trying to do, and let out a small smile. He was always better at this then I was.
"She's doing alright, just still in the process of planning it." He said smoothly, letting the words roll out of his tongue like an expert. He put a finger to his chin thoughtfully, adding, "But Goten's been way too excited for his own good. Sometimes I think he'll literally burst in excitement."
I genuinely laughed. "How could he not? He's so cute! I can't wait to see him. I haven't seen him in quite a while."
"Same here with Mikan. I haven't taken her to that one ice cream place back home that she's been dying to go to."
"Don't worry about her," I waved him off with my hand, reassuring him that it was alright. "She can wait a little while longer."
At the corner of my eye, I could see a strands of dark hair peeking up from the door's window. I tried my hardest not to laugh at Videl's, or whoever it was, attempt of being 'sneaky'. It was just so ridiculous and obvious, there was no way it couldn't be Videl.
An idea quickly came into my head, and I knew that if whoever it was standing behind the door to the entrance of the rooftop was going to leave, they were going to leave because they wouldn't be getting whatever information they wanted. So if they heard something less than that...
I quickly whispered in Gohan's ear my plan, and almost instantly his face became a blushing mess. It was actually pretty cute, seeing as I loved to make him look all flustered like that. It wasn't exactly I sight I could see often now.
"A-are you sure?" He whispered, almost shaking nervously next to me. While Gohan maybe the strongest person on Earth, he did have a weakness for fake displays of affection-heck, for any forms of affection really. He wasn't called pure of heart for nothing, after all.
"It'll be alright," I reassured, squeezing his hand for emphasis. Despite feeling a hint of warmth on my cheeks, I knew that it would be for a good cause. We couldn't be constantly spied on at school; there would be things that we would need to talk about that normal people needed to be oblivious about.
We couldn't let anyone else know our secrets. "Just follow my lead. If you start to feel uncomfortable, squeeze my hand. I'll get the hint."
Gohan hesitantly nodded at me. I flashed him a soft smile, and felt relieved when he gave me an embarrassed one.
Good, I didn't want our friendship to be in jeopardy because of this one plan.
"Ready?" I whispered into his ear, gently setting myself on his lap. I stifled a laugh when Gohan's eyes widened slightly and his cheeks became a dark shade of red.
Following the plan, Gohan clumsily put his hands on my hips, guiding me closer to him so that our chests touched and our faces were dangerously close to each other. By then, if I couldn't help but feel embarrassed by our position, feeling my heart quicken its pace and my cheeks aflame.
"I-I'm ready," he answered, not meeting my eyes. I didn't comment when I felt his chi suddenly rise up a little.
I nodded, taking a deep breath to calm down my nerves. "Right. Here we go."
Gohan's POV
I was almost literally a mess of words and shaking hands. My cheeks had burned, and I fought to look at her in the eye. How could I? With every seductive word Lime through at me, I felt as if I were going to pass out. It was so strange. I could save the world, but I couldn't save myself from Lime's (albeit pleasant, though I immediately pushed that out of my mind) words?
Her proclamations of her love for me didn't help either, seeing as she had to say in the most genuine tone possible. It was almost hard to concentrate on what the whole point of this plan was whenever she'd flash me a cute smile and stifled laughs, knowing that she was just having fun with all this. Knowing that she was making me into a flustered mess.
Seeing as I had no choice, I decided to step up my game. Needless to say, I felt a little pride when I caught her off guard with comments of my own, proclaiming my undying love for her and so on. By then, I had finally relaxed and tried to honestly win against her on who could say the most cheesiest lines.
Of course Lime would win.
We finally stopped when I whispered to her that I couldn't feel a presence near us anymore. Whoever it was had left. Lime nodded at me, then proceeded to get off my lap.
I didn't dare voice my thoughts on how I felt suddenly empty without her there.
"Wow Gohan," Lime giggled. "Didn't know you were much for romance. What have you been hiding all this time?"
I scratched the back of my head sheepishly. "I guess I just didn't realize it?"
She merely laughed, tucking in some strands of her silky hair behind her ear. "You could be a smooth talker with a bunch of girls here you know." After that, we continued where we left off, and had our meal with whatever time we had left.
And, of course, I explained everything to her. I don't think she could've handled the suspense for so long. When everything was said in done, she didn't say anything at first. She sat there beside me, looking past me as she processed everything I told her. I wasn't the least bit uncomfortable, I was just there, patiently waiting for her response to all...that.
"So you met Videl this morning." She finally said slowly. I nodded. "In your suit that you wore as a superhero. Saiyaman, right?"
I nodded again. "Right."
"And she was suspicious of you, so you're worried that she'll catch on and find out about us. All of it." I scratched the back of my head.
"That's kind of it." I responded, feeling a little embarrassed that everything I told Lime had seemed like a big deal when in reality it wasn't really. She seemed to have noticed, because she immediately reassured me that I was right with my concerns. We couldn't risk anyone finding out. And as always, she knew just what to say to put an end to any of my worries.
I looked up at the sky. "I hope this gets easier from here on out."
I felt Lime shuffle beside me, as she answered, "Yeah. I hope so too." And I knew she meant it.
As soon as we finished talking, the bell finally rang. It was time to go back to class.
I walked Lime up until the point where we'd have to separate into opposite directions. We promised to meet each other after school, deep into the back of the school where hardly anyone goes so we couldn't be spotted flying on Nimbus.
"You better show me the suit, Gohan." Lime teased, sticking out her tongue playfully in her usual fashion. Just as she usually did when I had first met her.
I promised her I would, before we finally split ways. I turned back around to see her one last time, an odd feeling welling up inside me as she walked into her class, and I smiled.
I pretended for the rest of the walk to my class not to notice Videl eyeing me.
So...I hope this was somewhat satisfactory for you guys.
As for me not updating this story for so long...I had a lack of inspiration. I just blanked out, and I had no idea where this story was exactly headed. But for a while now, I know where to end this story. So this story will be completed, I promise.
Tell me what you guys thought of this chapter. Was this too slow? Too rushed?
Also, one other thing. I won't exactly be re-writing this story, but I'll be fixing my horrible grammar from previous chapters and maybe adding some more character development. So please, if you see an edit date under the chapter, now that it's a current one. So far, I've re-newed Chapter One, so please look into it.
Thank you, for anyone who's still reading this. I'd appreciate any reviews. :)
