Prompt was: You and I, we were born to die.
"We're the same now, you know. Exactly the same." Says Katherine.
"No we aren't."
"Yes. They turned you into me."
"No! They didn't turn me at all. No one turned me. It was a mistake."
"Before that. Before you died. Didn't you notice?"
Elena's fists clench, the nails digging into her palm. "I don't know what you're talking about."
"They made you into me. They all made you into me. Took your family, destroyed your home. They made you scared. They made you run. They took everything and everyone you've ever loved and shattered you with it. They made you want to die. Made it so the only thing you could even try to control was how and when you die. And they just kept coming, over and over, until the only choice you had left was to die or keep running. And we both know how that turned out, don't we?"
"I am not you! I chose to save my friend's life! You've only ever saved your own! And I didn't want this! I didn't want to be a vampire; I have never wanted to be a vampire! It was an accident!"
Katherine smirks. "You still could have died. It would have been slow. Painful. But you could have done it. And yet here you are. Standing, talking. Yelling. And there is blood on your breath, baby girl."
Elena's eyes flicker between brown and black. "I didn't. Want. To die."
Something like sympathy flashes across Katherine's face. "Neither did I. But I'll tell you a secret. We never actually had that choice. Because you and me? We're just copies of another dead girl who didn't get a choice either. We've never been real. We're just reflections."
Elena snaps and swings her fist at Katherine's face as hard as she can.
The bathroom mirror shatters.
