Autobot base

The 'bots quickly went into fighting stances, weapons drawn and aimed at the strange red and silver femme. Bulkhead and 'Bee quickly grabbed their human charges as well, holding them close as to protect them, while Arcee did the same with June, who was crying as she stared at her son in panic.

The femme glanced at them before looking back down at the raven haired teen she cradled in her hands. She then shifted slightly, holding Jack close to her spark and allowing the warmth to wash over him.

She turned to look at the 'bots, softly laughing.

"There is no need for alarm, I am here because Moonsoul lost control of his emotions, and only I can help him."

"Moonsoul?" Arcee murmured in confusion, her gun still trained on the strange femme. The red and silver Cybertronian smiled endearingly as she lifted Jack to her face and nuzled him.

"Yes...my dear little Moonsoul." She purred in content, gently stroking Jack's face. Then a grin that could only be seen as crazy twisted her faceplates.

"My little sparkling."

Jack mumbled something slightly, turning in his sleep and curling into a ball, whimpering as he trembled.

The 'bots couldn't believe what they were seeing, this femme believed that Jack was her sparkling.

The femme looked back up at the 'bots, smiling.

"My name is Shadowdusk, former protector of Vector Sigma."

Painful realization hit the 'bots. Jack recovered Optimus' memories, at the loss of his own humanity, freedom and slowly sanity. He gave up so much, and never told them anything, he didn't want to be a burden.

Optimus moved forward a few steps.

"Return Jackson to us, or we shall use physical force." He ordered, gun lifted.

Shadowdusk's optics darkend and she growled.

"DON'T YOU DARE ORDER ME TO RETURN WHAT IS RIGHTFULLY MINE!" She screamed, making the other 'bots stumble while Optimus' brows furrowed.

"Jack belongs to no one, he is a sentinent being."

"Don't you see? I am protecting Moonsoul! Pain is a means of escape!" She then placed Jack gently on the floor behind herself.

"And speaking of 'protecting' what is rightfully mine." She growled, slowly stalking towards Arcee, though her gold optics were on June.

The 'bots were shocked when Shadowdusk's arm became a blade, she was going to kill June!

Arcee tried to move, holding June tight, but another force kept her in place.

The blade lifted, then swung down...

"NO!"

The blade stopped, inches from the human femme. Shadowdusk then turned to look at the one who'd screamed.

Jack slowly stood, his limbs trembling slighty with the exertion. His armor was gone, and his clothing was slightly torn. The teen was panting, fear in his eyes.

He looked up at Shadowdusk, optics pleading.

"Pl-please...don't...n-no more...pl-please..." He whimpered.

Everyone felt their heart, or spark in the case of the 'bots, break. The 'bots nor Jack's mom or Miko or Raf, had ever seen Jack in such a distraught state.

Bloody tears streamed down his face and his body wracked with silent sobs.

"Pl-pl-please...no more bl-blood...! No m-more pain..."

Shadowdusk was next to Jack in the blink of an eye, lifting the techno-organic.

Jack remained still, knowing better than to do anything that would anger Shadowdusk.

"Hush, my little one. There won't be blood for now...shh, don't cry my little sweet spark." She murmured, voice deceptively warm and soft.

The 'bots watched, still shocked, as Shadowdusk gently cradled Jack in her hands.

Jack looked over to his family, optics helpless as the femme nuzled him tenderly.

He then mouthed a single word to his mother.

'Run.'

Arcee quickly shifted, allowing the raven haired woman to clamber on, and she sped off.

Shadowdusk growled, staring after the femme and the human woman, but a sob from Jack brought her attention back to the teen she held.

"Oh sweet spark, don't cry. Everything's okay..."

"N-no! Nothing's a-alright! You w-want to kill m-my mom! I'm t-tired of blood and p-pain!" He wailed, head in his hands.

Shadowdusk frowned.

"But I am your mother, Moonsoul."

"N-n-no you aren't! S-stop saying that!"

Shadowdusk's face fell, then became angry as she looked at the 'bots.

"You! This is your fault! My Moonsoul won't accept me because of the foolish things you've put in his head!"

The 'bots looked shocked, optics wide.

"I'll have your heads for it! All of you will pay!"

"No!" Jack cried. "Leave them alone!"

"Quiet!" The femme snapped.

Jack screamed as pain consumed him. His blood felt like fire in his veins, it felt as though he'd burst into flames any moment!

A fist slammed into Shadowdusk, sending her flying. Jack yelped, pain gone but now falling, but Optimus caught him.

"Jack, are you alright?"

"Y-yes..."

Jack gasped as Optimus changed into his alt, and Jack found himself in the drivers seat. Optimus took off out of base, the others soon following.

"Jack, the key, do you have it?"

"Wh-what?"

"The key to Vector Sigma. Do you have it?"

"Oh. Uh, yeah. I do." The raven youth replied, pulling out the key from his pocket. He held it up for the Prime to see.

"Once we are far enough from Shadowdusk, I want you to destroy it."

"Huh?! Why?! Optimus, it's a relic, if it's destroyed then-!"

"Then a very strong part of the forced bond between you and Shadowdusk will be severed."

Jack still looked unsure. To destroy a relic...it felt like it'd be impossible to do.

"Jack. It is alright. You may destroy it."

Jack gulped. He then summoned his armor, taking the key in his hands and beginning to close his hands around it.

"Moonsoul! Don't you dare-!"

Jack ignored Shadowdusk, continuing to clench the key in his hands.

There was a crackling and snapping, then a crunch.

Jack closed his eyes, gulping. He felt as though something took a bite out of his heart, but it was at least a bad part that was partly gone. But the key...

Jack slowly opened his hands and looked down. He gave a choked sob.

There in his palms was the broken metal frame of the key. The shards of glass, once a beautiful blue, now were a dull, lifeless grey.

"Oh Primus..." The youth whispered, hands closing back around it. He hugged it close.

"Everything will be alright, Jack." Optimus assured, seatbelts wraping around the teen in the form of a hug.

Jack merely cried.

Later

June held Jack close as though the teen would dissapear.

"M-mom, I can't breathe!" Jack managed, wriggling slightly.

"Don't care. Not letting you go." June replied simply. Jack laughed despite how bad he felt.

"Optimus..." Arcee spoke up. "What're we going to do?"

Everyone looked at the Prime, who didn't reply right away. The look on his face showed he was deep in thought.

"With the key to Vector Sigma destroyed, a part of the forced bond was destroyed. No doubt it took a heavy toll on Jack, but that means it took an even graver toll on Shadowdusk. She will not bother Jack as she recovers."

He paused, face becoming grim.

"Which means that we must take the oppritunity...and destroy her as well."

'Bee shot up, whiring and chirping in alarm. Ratchet shook his head.

"No Bumblebee. It won't kill Jack. It will hurt him, but not kill him. A forced bond is not the same as a carrier bond."

'Bee relaxed at that, as did everyone else.

"So..." Arcee spoke up. "What's the plan?"

Much Later

Shadowdusk paced around the now trashed base angrily. She limped though, pain still in her form from the destruction of the key.

Those blasted Autobots! How dare they convince Jack to destroy half of their bond!

Hidden in the hall to the left were the Autobots.

Optimus nodded to the 'bots. It was time.

Arcee took a deep breath, whispering to herself.

"For Jack."

Shadowdusk looked up when she heard a clang, arm immediately shifting into a blade. She blocked Arcee's strike.

"Where is my Moonsoul?!" The insane femme demanded of Arcee, attacking angrily. "Where is he?!"

"Where you will never get him!"

Shadowdusk roared angrily.

Arcee gasped as she felt some strange power make her freeze.

'Bee moved in with an angry whir.

"Oh poor youngling, being brought into war? Why don't you join me and Moonsoul? Moonsoul could use a brother." She offered, voice suddenly warm and kind as she blocked his attacks.

"Not a chance!" 'Bee snapped. He grunted as he was shoved away.

Bulkhead moved in, managing to land a heavy blow. Shadowdusk cried out in pain, but then hit back, talons raking across the wrecker's face.

Optimus cam in, he and the wrecker tag teaming as they fought the femme, draining her strength.

Rathet, now in the medbay, prepared the machine. The femme was crazy, but Optimus insisted she deserved at least a painless death.

"What are you doing?!" Shadowdusk shrieked as the wrecker and Prime began to wrestle her into the medbay.

"Is it ready, Ratchet?" Optimus asked, voice grave.

The medic grimaced and nodded.

"Yes Optimus. It is."

The insane femme shrieked angrily as she was forced into a glass chamber.

"How dare you! You will pay for your insolence, you fools!" She screamed.

The door was shut. The femme pounded at it fiercely.

"Let me out! Now!"

Optimus bowwed his head.

"May you rest peacfully in the well of the allspark."

Ratchet started the machine and a green haze filled the glass chamber.

Her fighting lessened bit by bit. Her gold optics began to fade.

"No...No...please...my M-Moonsoul..."

Jack came from hidding in the vent, moving over and pressing a hand to the glass.

"It's okay, I'm right here. Just rest...you deserve to rest after so long. Just rest."

The femme's large hand pressed to the other side of the glass where Jack's own hand was on the other side.

"Moonsoul..."

She then fell with a heavy clunk.

"Venting the gas." Ratchet spoke up after a few moments of silence, his voice soft.

Jack was trembling. He was in pain, and it was easy to see.

Optimus gently picked up the human, olding him by his spark. The warmth soothed the teen.

"It is alright, Jack. It is all over. Just sleep for now." He murmured comfortingly.

Jack yawned.

"Optimus...?"

"Yes Jack?"

"Can we-" He paused, yawning again. "Can we...bury her some place nice..?"

Optimus nodded.

"Yes Jack. But for now, just sleep through the pain until it is gone. Just sleep."

EPILOGUE

Jack sat beside the pile of stone that marked the grave of Shadowdusk. To think it had been a year since he'd nearly lost his sanity. He had to admit he missed the femme's soft voice now and then though.

Jack softly hummed one of the tune's Shadowdusk had sung to him, staring at the energon crystals around the cave.

"I'm glad Optimus let us bury you here." He commented. "It's beautiful."

He looked down.

"I still feel sorry for you. You were just really lonely...but I don't think you did the right thing, forcing me to be your surogate child. Maybe if things had been different...maybe if they'd been different we could've been friends.

Jack then sighed, standing.

"Well, I need to go. I'll see you soon, yeah?" He said, smiling softly.

He went to the cave entrance, then paused, looking back.

"Rest well, Shadowdusk."
