"Jim," Bones spoke to the captian. "Maybe it's best I stay up here…you know injuries and all. Considering that transporter boost will only work on one person. The most injured."

"I know, I know. I just pray no one is that bad," Jim stepped on the pad. "Alright team. Spock, Riley, Jackson. Let's go" Jim makes eye contact with Scotty for a moment. "Energize."

Wendy sat with Pavel's head in lap. Zach had gone in search of water and safe food.

"Vendy," Pavel's accent had gotten thicker. "I em glad ve made up," He coughed blood, and Wendy, hardly fazed, wiped it away. "B-before I die."

"No" Wendy's voice was panicked. "Don't talk like that. They're looking for us I know it. You'll live. We will all live." She adjusted his head and he winced. "Sorry."

"Eets fine. But vhat eef…Vhat eef I do die," Pavel was weak, so weak that he could barely raise his head.

"No, stop talking like that! You'll be fine." Wendy couldn't take it. She loved him, more than anything. She coun't care less if they had only met She kissed him. Their lips molded together and worked. Then Pavel started losing his energy. Pavel fell limp into Wendy's hands. "Pav? Pavel? No, don't do this." Wendy frantically patted his face. Tears welled in her eyes as she continued to shake him. "Pavel I forbid you! Pavel! Please!" Wendy begged kissing his lips again.

Wend placed a delicate ear against his chest, "Good you are breating." Wendy felt a fading pulse." Oh no, don't you dare, Russian boy!" She began compressions. "Pavel please. I'm begging you to wake the hell up."

"Do you hear that?" Jim asked as they neared a cave. "Everyone shut up! Shut the hell up!" As they heard closer they could hear Wendy's faint cries. "That's Wendy."

"Captain I believe it is coming from that cave," Spock spoke plainly fallowing the running captain. Kirk, followed by Spock and security personnel skidded into the cave. They found Wendy pumping furiously on Chekov's chest. She leaned back panting.

"Oh thank God. His pulse is back up. Good boy...good boy Pavel."

"You sound more like McCoy every time you talk, which happens to be a lot." Kirk stood behind her.

"Captain, Mr. Spock! Oh God," Wendy's voice cracked in relief.

"Kirk to transporter room," Jim prayed the one time signal boost would help.

"Soctty here Captain, who am I beaming up?" Mr. Scott's voice cracked threw the static.

"Chekov, and have McCoy on standby. He' pretty banged up."

"Aye sir. Energizing now." Wendy watched Pavel's body fade from her hands. She whimpered softly I worry if he could pull threw.

"What about Zach? Have you found him? We need to wait for him!"

"Cadet Finch," Spock called to her. Wendy looked up at him from the floor, scared for her new friend's safety. "We found Lt. Jameson. I'm sorry he is dead. Apparently mulled by the same thing that attacked you and ensign Chekov."

"No. He saved me and Chekov!"Kirk knelt to her level holding her shoulders.

"Can you walk," Jim asked gently, putting a arm under her arms. Lifting her she grunted in pain.

"No, my ankle is broken," Wendy attempted to limp along side Kirk. She whimpered with almost every needing to put her broken ankle down in order to hobble.

"Spock a little help, she can't put any pressure on that foot. Never mind I got a better idea," Kirk trailed off as he swooped her up into a cradle hold. "Come on kid. Let's get home."

Wendy woke in sickbay. She remembered beaming on the ship and, "He hypod me!"

"Damn straight, you were dehydrated and exhausted," Wendy sat up looking at the doctor. A small smile reached his face as he walked over to her. "How you feel?"

"Sore, tired, my ankle hurts some." Wendy slowly sat up with help of course, from the good doctor. "Where is he?" McCoy pointed to Chekov. There he was, out like a light and, thankfully, alive. "Oh thank God! Has he woken up?"

"Not since we found him. I mean he was half awake and mumbled 'where's Wendy?' We tried to call to him but he was out again. So did you make up?"

"Yeah, we did." McCoy smiled. "When do you think he'll wake up?

"We have no idea. Could be hours, days," he paused looking at the Russian. "There is no way to be sure. You love him, don't you?" Wendy nodded with tears in her eyes.

"It's my fault."

"No its not. How? How could it be your fault?" Then the tears started to fall.

"If only," Wendy sputtered. "If only I hadn't tripped, or if only Pavel wasn't so damn loyal! He almost died because of me." McCoy took her shoulders. "I-I mean why? He barely knows me yet he's so loyal."

"Pavel is just a loyal kid. But he cares about you, he really cares about you. Don't worry he'll wake up." As if by magic there was a small murmur from Pavel's bed.

"V-vendy?"
