A/N: I don't own Avatar: The Last Airbender...-.-
That and I seriously can't believe I was 12 when this showed aired! o.o God that's kinda sad...I remember exactly what I was doing too. I was eating sesame chicken from a chinese takeout place called 'Super China' and all giddy about the first eppy showing...I watched it in my grandmother's garage...sitting in a rocking chair...it smelled like cigars. haha...oh the memories! Thats what I want in those lovely reviews! Tell me what you think of this, AND tell me when and where you first saw Avatar! :) Didn't you love being a kid...when all you had to worry about was whether Zuko was gonna kiss Katara?

"Do you remember, Katara? Do you remember how we met?" The dying Avatar gripped his beloved's hand firmly. Even in his old age when facing death, Aang's eyes sparkled with adolescent joy. There was no fear of the end…no sorrow.

"I remember." His wife gently squeezed his hand. "We found you…Sokka…and me." Katara recounted the memories that seemed to have occurred only yesterday. How the years went by so quickly and without warning. Time seemed to rip everything from under them, but they had had each other through it all. Not once did Katara picture this happening to her. She had been with Aang for so long; a world without him seemed impossible. Like no world at all. After everything: The laughs, the heartache, the losses…

Aang had noticed his wife's dismay and again gathered up the strength to voice the last bit of comfort he could. "Katara…it is alright…" He coughed. "Please…tell me…once more…how we met."

The Avatar's wife couldn't bear to see him take to another coughing fit, and so she told him if he promised not to speak, she would tell the tale again. Aang closed his eyes and waited for the soothing sound of Katara's voice…

"All those years ago, and I still remember it as if it were yesterday." She began. "Sokka and I were fishing with the little time we had away from our chores. We were swept away by a current and thrown onto a landing made of ice. In a rage I water bended a crack in an iceberg, which then broke into smaller pieces. It was after that, that I had seen the silhouette of a boy trapped inside. So I took Sokka's tomahawk and rushed in to try and break the boy free of the thick ice. With two hits the iceberg split in half again and an air tight bubble broke while it hissed and blew warm air in our faces.

"By then Sokka and I were frightened, because over top of us stood a glowing figure, menacing and wondrous…but then the light faded and the glowing figured appeared as a small boy who fainted and slid down the icy slopes."

Katara paused a moment and listened to Aang's breathing. It was shallow, but the same childlike smile played out across his lips with his eyes closed.

Bringing his cold hand to her lips Katara began to weep, but pressed on. "Sokka had tried to keep me away, but my instincts told me I should help the boy. I pulled away and rushed to the small figure and stared in awe. His outfit was ridiculous; his head sported an arrow…I pulled him close to shield him from the wind, and slowly he opened his eyes…Aang…I can't…" Katara began to cry once more.

The weak Avatar opened one eye and sighed smiling. "I have something I want to ask you." He whispered.

"What is it?" She smiled through her tears.

"Come closer…" Aang's voice was now just a whisper.

The old Katara crawled up into bed with her husband, and leaned her head against his. "I'm here, what is it?" She placed her arm around his waist.

Aang chuckled and took a deep breath. "Will you go penguin sledding with me?"

Katara's eyes stung, but tears did not spill over; quietly she giggled and then tightened her embrace around her husband. "I love you, Aang…"

There was only silence.
