I don't have an explanation for not updating this for nearly 2 years, but I truly am sorry, and I hope this makes up for it. I'll try my best to update ASAP!

The Last Olympian, Page 49

We locked eyes. I thought of a different time last summer, under Mount St. Helens, when Annabeth thought I was going to die, and she kissed me. If I was being honest, I'd been thinking about that a lot. I mean, I get that it was probably just a kiss for luck, but still. She kissed me. And it wasn't on the cheek or anything… I wondered if she remembered it.

I realized that Annabeth was staring at me, her eyebrows knitted together. "What about it?"

"I— What?"

"You just asked me if I remember Mount St. Helens."

I'd said that out loud? Gods, that particular thought was supposed to be stay in my head! "Uh, I was just, uh—" I stopped short, my cheeks burning. "Um, Chiron will probably be wondering where we are…"

She studied me for a few moments before looking away. "Yeah. Prophecy."

"Yes," I said dazedly, putting down the scimitar. "Prophecy."

"I'm sorry," Annabeth told me. "I—I should get back. I'll keep in touch."

"Listen, Annabeth—" I thought about Mount St Helens, Calypso's island, Luke and Rachel Elizabeth Dare, and how suddenly everything had got so complicated. I wanted to tell Annabeth that I didn't really want to be so distant from her. The only problem was how I was going to put that in words, as I knew that I wasn't the most articulate demigod. "I— It's not nice being so—so distant from you, you know?"

"We aren't distant," she muttered, avoiding my eyes.

"Well, we aren't as close as we were before your quest."

"My quest?" Annabeth snorted. "It certainly didn't seem like it, what with Geryon and Daedalus and all that."

"Annabeth—" I began, before stopping. I was tired, and I didn't want to argue. I sighed, feeling slightly irritated. "All right, whatever. Take care, Annabeth," I said, taking off down Half-Blood Hill. When I reached the bottom, I looked back, but Annabeth was gone. And I couldn't help the odd feeling in my stomach — then I realized that it was regret. I was disappointed — but why? I mean, yeah, I'd failed to get my point across, but it wasn't like Annabeth was mad at me. At least, I hoped so.

Do you guys have any suggestions for scenes I can extend? Or would you like me to write some scenes in Annabeth's POV? :)
