Dear Pollux,

You don't know who I am, but I know you. More than you might imagine. Your first instinct is going be to dismiss this letter, doubtless, you'd probably be crumpling it up right now if I hadn't called you out on doing so. Pragmatic, as always. No gods rule your destiny. But I'm certain can convince you to hear me out with a few choice words. You still think about her, even after all these years. Every time you reach out for something you care about, fate comes along and snatches it away. You're starting to think you've been cursed. There was a time when you thought death was preferable and even though you surrounded yourself with the gaudy pleasures of life, you could fool everyone but yourself. How many times did you wake up sweating at night, reach for the pistol on your nightstand and hold it under your chin as if to threaten the lingering memories out of your mind? The screams of the men and women of Dagan, the dying gasp of Voren and that confused, heart wrenching look Arali gave you when you left her for another.

Keep on reading, Pollux. Don't look away now.

You have lived your life as best you could. Not knowing its purpose, but drawn forward like a moth to a distant flame. Willing to burn your wings just to bask in that warm glow for a few, precious seconds. But you can't dwell on the past forever, it can and will kill you. You've endured far too much. The weight is too great for any single person to bear, even an Emperor. Let it go. Let all of it go. The old animosities, the hatred, the grudges, the self-loathing.. everything. Turn to the ones you love. Believe me, they're there, you'd be able to recognize them if you gaze wasn't turned inward all the time. And there's another you don't know about, not yet, anyways. But you'll need her as much as she needs you, and in the end, she'll be the one that saves you.

I know what you're thinking, why would you need saving? What's the point? What could possibly make all this pain and suffering worth something in the end?

It's not going to be a man or a woman, nor a friend or lover that rescues you from the depths of hell. But a child. A child who could level you with her eyes. Who loves her father completely and in entirety, regardless of his faults.

Wherever your path takes you, my friend,

I'll be there. With you.
