Seeing the Past

Sybil Trelawney barges into the staffroom every Wednesday at precisely three-thirty in the afternoon, claiming to have 'Seen' one of their futures. It was three-twenty-nine on Wednesday, and Minerva was playing chess with Albus in the staffroom. The other staff members in the room kept glancing up at the clock from their work every few seconds, waiting for it to be three-thirty.

Minerva said with a slight smirk, "It would be amusing if she actually guessed something right for a change."

"I agree," Albus smiled.

"Cue Trelawney," Severus drawled.

The door burst open and Sybil ran through the doorway, clutching her chest. Her eyes were wild as a shaky finger pointed from Minerva to Albus. The couple raised their eyebrows at her.

"I Saw…I Saw…," she was breathing heavily, "the Headmaster and Deputy Headmistress getting married!"

Severus hadn't been expecting that one, so he had been drinking his coffee when she said this, and now he was choking on it. Minerva and Albus were laughing hard. Most of the others had their mouths hanging open in surprise. Through laughs, Albus gasped, "You said…Minerva…remember?" Minerva was nodding.

"What is so funny?" Sybil snapped.

Albus and Minerva finally calmed down by taking deep breaths, and Albus answered her, "Minerva and I were guessing some of the things you would say before you arrived," he lied, "Such as my death."

"Or mine," Minerva supplied

"Someone's," Albus added.

"Or maybe even something to do with the rumors the student population comes up with," Minerva continued flawlessly. The pair was so accustomed to expertly hiding their relationship from the public eye that it simply came naturally now. "Such as Albus and me secretly dating."

"Or getting married," Albus finished.

"So you thought she would say this?" Rolanda Hooch asked skeptically.

"Yes. It is a preposterous idea," Minerva lied.

"But I swear! This was different!" Sybil cried dramatically. "There was this strange mental image fogging my thoughts that had nothing to do with my previous train of thought! Believe me, I was going to tell Severus he would die next week, but then I Saw it!"

"It's comforting to know I'm going to die," Severus smirked.

Ignoring Severus, Albus sighed, "I can't give you and explanation for that, Sybil."

"For that to happen, I would have to get divorced first," Minerva told the woman on a sudden whim. She showed the 'Seer' her left hand, where an engagement ring and wedding band sat. Her colleagues gaped at her.

"You're married?" Pomona Sprout exclaimed, "To whom?"

"I can't tell you. That's why I don't go by his last name," Minerva sighed. "I suppose you were dreaming, Sybil."

"Did you just wake up from a nap?" Albus asked Sybil as Minerva sent a Confundus Charm at her.

"You know what; I think I might have," she frowned. "Sorry."

She left the room and Minerva thought, 'Maybe she can't see the future, but she can certainly see the past.'
