It was one o'clock in the afternoon and Fai hadn't woken up yet. Usually he was the first one up. In the morning he was optimistic, always humming and whistling while making everyone breakfast. Everyone basically expected this and nothing more from the blonde. Not waking before 9 was weird, but not waking up before noon was undeniably strange. Kurogane and the others had all left about 10 o'clock: obviously trying to find information about the princess's memory feather. The ninja had refused to go. He was more peeved than usual and his blood pressure was at an all-time high. Sakura, as innocent as ever, had suggested he go buy some 'special pills', which had granted her awkward silenced stares' from everyone in the room. Somehow he had ended up going. 'Somehow' meant that Kari pushed him out the door before he could do otherwise. She could swear that man was getting lazier with every world they went to, either that or the 10 gallons of sake he drank over the course of 3 months was finally catching up with him.
Kari was making her favorite mage, his FAVORITE special blueberry pancakes! Well, she didn't actually make them. They were a frozen brand called Eggo's. They didn't have a toaster because the world before didn't have the same currency as this one.
Kari busied herself has she professionally flipped the last of 2 pancakes onto a pink plastic plate. She hummed a lyric-less tune as she topped them with a little syrup and a few more blueberries for extra measure. The girl gently put the plate onto the small dining table that occupied most of the kitchen.
It seemed rude to wake the man up so she silently waited, standing at the edge of the table. She lazily twirled Fai's fork between her fingers. After a while she got bored and absentmindedly drummed her fingers against the table. Kari's eyes wandered the room and they so happened to land on the latest issue of 'How to Kill an Annoying Mage' magazine. The brunette scoffed and rolled her eyes, "I thought I told that idiot ninja to take care of that yesterday. Sheesh, Kurogane is all muscle and no brains." She sighed and picked it up off the counter and scanned the cover." Trash," Kari threw the 100 page mistake at the small yellow trash can across the room. The blur of pages sailed over the table, narrowly missing the centerpiece Sakura had picked out, and landing inches from the trash's rim with a soft crinkle. Not even bothering to pick it up Kari glanced at clock hanging above the doorway to the living room, 3 o'clock. Had it really been 2 hours? She poked Fai's pancakes' lightly with her finger, cold. Kari worriedly looked at the stairs that led to the 4 bedrooms and bathroom.
She hesitantly walked up the stairs wondering if she was just being skeptical, I mean no one needed 15 hours of sleep. Kari stopped half way up as a muffled cry ricocheted through the little hall the stairs made. She let out a little squeak and quickened her pace, lunging forward as her foot slipped off the last step." Shoot," her body twisted and the back of her head smashed against the wall. She grimaced in pain and held her head, the world becoming nauseatingly disordered around her. Slowly getting up, she staggered to Fai's doorway. Kari began to knock, but pulled back and put her hand on the slightly rusted door knob. She silently prayed everything was alright in her companion's room and cautiously opened the door." Fai are you alright, I thought I heard someone cry. Are you hurt?"
Sorry for the short chapter! I had to get it out there!
