CHAPTER NINE: NIGHTMARE MOON
A quiet Luna walked to her sisters throne.
She looked up at it in envy and disgust, what a horrid thing her sister had become.
She turned, startled, as she heard footsteps approach the crown room and she quickly hid behind the giant golden chair, perking her ear so to hear the voices.
"Princess Celestia, do you not think it's cruel, to keep Discord here for your sister to see? It's no secret of the friendship they once had." came the voice of the head guard, seeking the reply of Princess Celestia herself.
"Cruel? Not at all. It is a mark of our victory. Our victory over evil. She understands that." Celestia said with a snide tone, probably accompanied by a snide smile.
Luna heard footsteps walk away, those of the guard, and whence he had gone her own sister began to walk towards the throne. Without even noticing her hiding sister, she sat upon it, gazing at the glorious glass window of Discords defeat, and she let out a happy sigh.
"Oh Discord. I couldn't let you win my sister over could I? Take her away from her responsibilities? I knew you would be evil, turn to insanity, I could tell from the moment I met you. No one with such a hideous appearance could do any good, and you would have only infected my poor sister too. You must understand Discord, I did it for your Luna!"
Luna suppressed a large gasp, how could this be? How could her own sister trick and betray her? Trick and force her to destroy the one she loved so dearly? No more! Luna came from behind the throne and faced her sister, who sat blinking and blushing.
"Oh, Luna, how long have you… why are you wearing that silly outfit?…" She frowned as her sister left her no reply and then sighed. "You must understand Luna, I did it for you!"
"How could you?!" screamed the furious Luna.
"Luna, calm down-"
"You manipulated me! You destroyed Discord! I see now that he truly was the only one who ever loved me!"
Luna snarled furiously and Celestia stood in shock.
"- You said you wanted me to stick to my duties, but then you take away my control of the night! Why?! You're a dictator Celestia! I am your sister no more!" Luna began to storm off in her rage, when Celestia shouted to her.
"Luna, calm down! This is a huge misunderstanding, I took away your control only temporarily! You can have it back. Would you like that? Would you like it back?"
Luna turned to her sister and her fury seemed to turn inwards as she let out a ghastly cackle.
"Well, you're right about one thing Celestia. There is only room for one princess in this kingdom. That princess will be me!"
"Luna?-"
"I'm not Luna" said she, the purple smoke surrounding her and sending blizzards throughout the room. The moon rose quickly over the sun.
"I'm Nightmare Moon!"
Nightmare Moon shot blue laser at the ceiling, destroying everything she could see. The bricks fell to the floor and Celestia moved quickly enough to avoid the ruin, but was knocked to the floor as one crushed the throne she had sat on. She feebly raised to her feet and looked at her with bravery. She flew up high as Nightmare Moon began to target her, aiming her laser at her, attempting to obliterate the sister she had once loved.
"Luna, I will not fight you!" Celestia shouted to her sister.
"Then you shall die for what you have done!" Nightmare Moon screamed, trying to hit her once more and with much more aggression than before. Celestia flew upwards through where the ceiling once sat in attempt to escape death, but Nightmare Moon simply followed her in to the night sky and ferociously continued her battle from there. It only took a few hits before the laser did hit the swooping Celestia, and she fell heavily to the ground.
Wounded, Celestia lay there in pain.
"Oh no… what have I done?" she thought as she stumbled to her feet. She looked at her sister swooping around in the sky, thinking that she had killed Celestia once and for all.
"Oh Luna… you've given me no choice." she stuttered, shattering the glass window of Discords defeat and taking the Elements of Harmony that hid inside. With great effort and seething pain throughout her whole body, she worked harder than ever before to use all elements herself. They swirled around her in a beautiful rainbow contrasted against the purple night. She rose to Nightmare Moon and out of the rainbow shot a fire coloured beam, a beam that surrounded Nightmare Moon.
"NO!" Screamed Luna, the image of her sister destroying her stung like a thousand daggers.
The last thing she saw was her dear Discords statue, which appeared to have winked at her. Luna heard his whisper in her ear.
"In time, Dear Luna, I will see you again. I love you."
"Nightmare Moon shall return! And then you'll see what chaos is!" she shouted with a smile, just before being catapulted backwards on to the very surface of the moon.
The silhouette of her demise gleamed down on to Equestria.
The reflection of her eye on Discords ruin.
