Chapter Ten: To Bare One's Dagger

Lucius walked towards his bed, looking at Kagome who was perspiring from the hours of pain and torture she was still going through. Having woken up at the early hours of the morning, he shuffled downstairs to see Kagome leaning against the fireplace, a cold sweat on her body as she shook in terror from the nightmares that came with the promise of their Dark Lord's attention. He had been quick to take her to his room, which...thankfully, was his own due fully to his position as house Prefect. Now, hours had passed, and he knew well enough that if such nightmares continued to plague her, she'd be best left in the dorm to sleep, rather than participate in the coming classes of the day. He placed a hand on her head and frowned at the heat radiating off her body, despite the clammy and sweaty feel of her skin. Around four in the morning, she'd finally stopped trembling, her temperature regulated, and her body seemed to heal during the rest of her sleep.

Having transfigured his desk into a bed for the remainder of the night, Lucius went back to sleep for the last of the early morning.

Kagome opened her eyes, affronted by a sudden pain in her abdomen, she sighed before slowly and carefully sitting up. She knew it was late, she had no doubt missed her first few classes, but thankfully her first couple of classes were History of Magic, Transfigurations and Potions. While she usually skipped the first anyways, she was passing the other two with nothing but O's. "This isn't my room..." she spoke out-loud to herself, turning her eyes to the small table next to her, she saw a small missive and a potion set atop it. Lifting the missive, she read the neat cursive and smiled at the written words that read as such;

Dearest Kagome,

Do try not to over exert yourself today. I've already taken it upon myself to notify the Professors of your delicate state of body. You have been excused from classes until you are feeling better. Madam Pomfrey, our esteemed Patron of the Hospital Ward, has gifted you with a Vitamix Potion. Please drink it all, and take your time returning to classes.

- Lucius Abraxas Malfoy

"What a worry wart..." she grinned, but happily picked up the phial and popped the crystal top from it, throwing her head back and enjoying the feel of her strength and energy returning back to her in spades. "...I owe him one for that." She placed the empty crystal phial back down and stretched wildly before throwing her legs over the edge of the luxurious bed and standing. She wouldn't miss anymore classes for the day, of that, she was certain. Making her way out of his room, she returned to her own to ready for what was left of her classes.

Making her way through the halls, she found the ever mischievous Peeves terrorizing a group of first years. While she'd normally dispel the obnoxious poltergeist, she noted the students and chose instead to watch in silent humor as they tried to use the limited magic they knew to get rid of it. No tickle charm was going to do anything. 'Sirius Black...Remus Lupin...and of course, the loud one, James Potter. What a curious bunch.' She frowned at the cowering rat behind them. "What was his name again? Pettigrew?"

The anxious boy looked up at his name and ducked further behind James who was trying to cast a boggey hex on the poltergeist.

Kagome pushed herself off the wall and called out to Peeves, "a few ickle firsties are gathering their books in the library, Peeves, why not go possess their books and leave these four to me?"

"How many firsties!?"

She thought about her answer, she'd only passed the library a moment ago, and their had been a good nine or ten in there at the time, "go now and you might have eight or so to play with."

Peeves let all of the items he'd moments ago possessed fall to the cobblestone ground with a loud clatter as he phased out of their sights.

"Tch, we didn't need your help,"

Kagome sauntered forward with a raised brow, "because you four had it all under control?" She laughed and leaned forward, "I don't think so. Peeves is really quite easy to manipulate, if you know what...gets him off." She glanced past the Potter boy and looked at the young Black. "You really are quite precious to look at," she had said this more to herself, but by the blush that colored his cheeks, he and his friends had heard. Straightening back up, she brought her hand to her long black hair which had grown much longer since Narcissa and hers little feud in their first year. Much longer. It trailed just above her hips, on days where she had no classes, she would find herself in the attentive hands of Narcissa and Lucius. Both of which enjoyed brushing and playing with her hair, well, Narcissa enjoyed playing with it, Lucius just loved to run his fingers through it.

"Kagome?"

Turning around, Kagome grinned cheerfully at her pet. "Sev-"

"Look who slithered out of his lair!"

"Snivellus, did you come looking for another fight!?"

"Guy's, he hasn't done anything."

Kagome glowered down at Sirius and James as she towered over the two boys, "I hope you boy's are aware...that there's more than one snake in the Slytherin lair. I'm quite well known myself for being rather...venomous."

"Is that a threat?"

Kagome smiled, "I'm a Slytherin, I don't make threats...only, calculated promises," stepping towards James, she leaned forward so that her lips just barely grazed his ear and whispered "if I find out...that you or your cronies...ever...mess with what is mine, I'll feed you to the Acromantula's in the Forbidden Forest." She placed a soft kiss to his cheek and pulled away before walking over to Severus, glancing back, she winked at the slightly pale eleven year old. "That's...a promise."

Severus wasn't sure what she'd said to the boy, but the slight trembling of his body could be seen from the distance at which he stood. Taking Kagome's hand, he pulled her off towards the Great Hall for lunch.
