Title: Smile for Me

Rating: K+

Summary: Haymitch finds that her smiles give him an indescribable, albeit unwelcomed, satisfaction that he craves.

Prompt: #1 Guilty Pleasures

"You promised the children you wouldn't drink!"

She tried to snatch the glass away from him, but he was much too quick for her. She straightened her posture and placed her hands on her hips, a disapproving glare emanating from her deep blue eyes.

"No, I promised them that I will stay sober," He said a-matter-of-factly, still holding his glass a distance away from her, just in case she tried to take it away from him again, "I didn't say I wouldn't drink."

His gray eyes scanned her face, taking in the way she pursed her lips when she's frustrated with him. It gave him a sense of satisfaction, knowing that he got on her nerves. It's only fair, he thought, because she got on his. Every time she pursed her lips, silence would follow. He knew better than to think that she ran out of things to say. Oh no, Miss Effie Trinket is too talkative and too articulate to run out of things to say. And he knew that she has an arsenal of cutting words exclusive for him; something she rarely used in fear of losing her grace and manners. An amused smile played on his lips and his eyes shone with mischief, but he relented. He handed over the glass of whiskey he was holding, and she took it away from him swiftly, afraid that he would change his mind.

"Alright, no more drinking while the games are ongoing," he said, sounding defeated, "keep me in check."

She handed the glass over to the red-headed avox and took a seat beside him to watch the games. He caught a glimpse of a smile gracing her lips. He knew that she appreciated being entrusted with the task of keeping him sober, and a strange feeling of warmth flooded his senses. As much as he enjoyed her rising temper, he found that her satisfied smile felt like a drug. Knowing that he gave her a reason to do so brought him more elation. Haymitch Abernathy has done it. And he will never admit it, but perhaps, he'll find it easier to stay sober just to see her smile for him.
