A/N: So I had a few people ask me to do a reveal fic. Hope you like it!
The Big Reveal
Arthur and Merlin sat on the steps watching the guards clean up after the latest attack.
"So," said Merlin.
"Yup," said Arthur.
"Do you want to talk about it?" asked Merlin.
"Yeah, no," said Arthur shaking his head.
"That's decisive," Merlin smiled. "You really didn't know?"
"In hindsight, I probably suspected, I mean there were signs," Arthur frowned.
"I thought you might figure it out," said Merlin.
"I supposed it's just something I never wanted to think about."
"I have to think about it almost everyday," said Merlin.
"How do you handle the stress?" asked Arthur.
"I guess I just figure it's for the greater good," said Merlin, "that, and the consequences if anyone found out."
"Yeah, that would have been bad, I mean after the heat of battle is one thing, but if I'd found out just on a normal day. I don't know what I would have done," said Arthur.
"So what are you going to do? Now that you do know," asked Merlin.
"I guess I'll do what have to do, the law is clear in this case," said Arthur. He stood up stretched a little and looked back down at Merlin. "Are you coming?"
They walked over to the stables and into one of the rear stalls. Arthur used the handle end of a pitchfork to nudge a large mound of hay. The hay groaned.
"Get up," said Arthur.
"Go way," said the hay.
Arthur gave it another hard jab. The hay erupted in a volley of curses and epithets, spitting the straw out of his mouth as he went.
"Can't a man get some sleep!" he cried.
"Gwaine," said Arthur, "I've turned a blind eye long enough, you can't sleep in the stables. I don't care how many you've had at the tavern, you need to start using your rooms in the castle."
"I don't like the fuss," said Gwaine.
"Well I don't like spooked horses and terrified stable hands," said Arthur, "Merlin said you've been doing this a while, now I've given you time to adjust to life as a knight enough's enough. Now get dressed and help with the reconstruction." Arthur threw a shirt at Gwaine and left.
Gwaine started to dress and looked up at Merlin still stood outside the stall.
"So you told him," said Gwaine.
"No, you were so plastered last night at the celebration you told him. I just confirmed it I figured he already knew; I didn't think he was so dense as to not know you weren't using your rooms in the castle. Why is that by the way?"
"I don't like being confined behind stone walls," said Gwaine, "Gives me bad dreams."
"Well you're just going to have to get used to it, because you know Arthur's going to be checking that you're using those rooms now and it's getting towards winter, I don't know how you survived out here last year, but this year you'll take the luxurious suite complete with roaring fire and like it," said Merlin.
Gwaine finished getting dressed laughing to himself as he did. "I can't believe it took him almost two years to notice I sleep in here half the time."
"Yes, and where do you sleep the rest of the time?" asked Merlin.
"Camelot is full of damsels that liked to be saved, and they are always so grateful for the services of a knight," said Gwaine smiling, "two years, it was a good run."
"Arthur's so blind to some things," said Merlin, "he won't see, or won't accept what he's seeing until he's ready."
"Even when it's something so glaringly obvious?" asked Gwaine as he stepped out of the stall and brushed the last of the straw off his person.
"Especially when it's something staring him right in the face," said Merlin grinning.
End notes: Okay, maybe I'll write the expected magic reveal, but I kept thinking of all those cliches that have already mounted up in the fannon I'm trying to think of a new approach. In the mean time I hope you enjoyed this attempt at humor.
