Burt follows behind Kurt and Blaine as they rush through the airport weaving their way to the gate. Rachel and Finn had their send off the week prior, that girl couldn't get to New York soon enough and promised to have the apartment in decent shape by the time Kurt arrived (as per his blueprints).
15 minutes until Kurt is off to New York for his first semester at NYADA, how did the summer go by so fast? Burt smiles to himself and watches the boys cling to each other, whispering about Skype chats and and promised phone calls, promises of constant communication, hopefully Kurt has a few minutes a day for his old man in there somewhere? Maybe? They reach the gate and Blaine is all smiles, seeming to be filled with excitement for his boyfriend. "I love you, I'll text you as soon as I get there ok?" Kurt promises as he presses his forehead to Blaine's. All Blaine can do is nod and give Burt some room to say goodbye to his son. "You watch yourself ok, son? You let us know you arrived safely. Now get on that plane before you miss it." Kurt grabs his carry on and heads down the hallway looking back and waving with an excited smile and a bit of trepidation in his eyes as he turns the corner. As he disappears from sight Blaine stands there unmoving, staring at the now empty corridor. Burt goes to put his hands on Blaine's shoulders to help him maneuver back out through the airport when he realizes Blaine is shaking, what was going on? The loudspeaker sounds overhead letting travelers know of a delayed flight and Burt looks up suddenly, turning around just to glance around. When he turns his attention back around Blaine is out of sight, where did he go? It's not until he hears whimpers coming from the ground does he look down to find Blaine curled up on himself on the floor. As he walks around to get a better look at the boy, Blaine starts sobbing, slight rocking back and forth as he starts pulling at his hair, almost ripping out chunks. This poor boy is quickly falling apart in front of him and he seems powerless to stop it, how can he while his heart is breaking himself? His little boy, his world has just flown off to college, he know's he'll be safe, but they have been together for 10 years alone, each other's constant companions. Burt is pulled out of his reverie as Blaine's sobs turn into cries of anguish, reaching out for someone who is not there for him to hold onto, his hand falling to the ground and curling up into an angry fist. Knowing that Kurt always was able to comfort Blaine with physical affection he reaches out and grabs the boy, pulling him into his chest. It's not long before Blaine is holding onto Burt's shirt, sobbing into his flannel, but now is not the time for him to cry. No, Burt will stay strong just a little bit longer, he still has one son to watch over, the one in his arms, the one who saved his son and in essence saved him. So he could wait a little longer.
