This takes place in chapter 6, The Portkey on page 68 of Goblet of Fire. When I read it, I expected Harry to react to what Amos Diggory more like this:

"Ced's talked about you, of course," said Amos Diggory. "Told us all about playing against you last year… I said to him, I said- Ced, that'll be something to tell your grandchildren, that will… you beat Harry Potter!"

..

"Harry fell off his broom, Dad," he muttered. "I told you … it was an accident …"

"Yes, but you didn't fall off, did you?" roared Amos genially, slapping his son on the back. "Always modest, our Ced, always the gentlemen … but the best man won, I'm sure Harry'd say the same, wouldn't you, eh? One falls off his broom, one stays on, you don't need to be a genius to tell which one's the better flier!"

"He only fell off because of the dementors! That doesn't make Harry a worse flier! He was the youngest seeker in a century!" Ron argued.

"It doesn't matter who was younger when they started playing quidditch! And Cedric didn't fall off his broom!" Amos bragged.

"That's because he didn't have to listen to his parents last moments whenever he was near a dementor. He didn't have to hear his mother's screams, begging for her to be killed instead of him. I did! I had to listen to them! Over and over!"

The Weasleys, Hermione, and the Diggorys were staring at Harry; nobody knew how to respond.

"Well… I…" Amos stuttered.

"Look, I'm not saying that I'm a better flier than Cedric. He's a brilliant flier! All I'm saying is that the quidditch match shouldn't decide who the better flier is," Harry said. "I still might of lost if the dementors hadn't come, but I might of won. I'm fine if Cedric's better than me at quidditch- I know loads of people are better than me, I'm okay with that. I just don't want to be judged on something that's out of my control."

There was a few more moments of silence before Mr. Weasley spoke.

"Must be nearly time," said Mr. Weasley quickly…

Amos couldn't look Harry in the eye after what they both had said.
