Beautiful Disaster

A Damon/Elena songfic. All rights to this song go to Kelly Clarkson. I do not own it. I was just listening and thinking about how perfectly it fit Damon and Elena... 3

He's as damned as he seems

And more heaven than a heart could hold

And if I try to save him

My whole world could cave in

"He's dangerous, Elena."

"Elena, stay away from him."

"He's no good, especially not for you."

Elena's heard it all before. But one look into those piercing blue eyes, and she knows that he'll never hurt her. Anyhow, she's not worried for herself. She's worried about hurting him. This was the Damon that stayed in love with Katherine for nearly his entire existence, who loved with a passion so bright it burned all that it touched.

She doesn't want to break him again.

She remembers the Damon that she'd met, the one that killed for fun of it, the aggravating asshole that no one wanted around, the one who saw Caroline's insecurities and used them against her.

And she sees the Damon now, her Damon, and realizes how far he's come- for her. Elena might be a mere human in the midst of these supernatural beings, but she gave Damon Salvatore his humanity back- and that was an accomplishment she was proud of.

He's magic and myth

As strong as what I believe

A tragedy with

More damage than a soul should see

And do I try to change him?

So hard not to blame him

She knows all the wrongs he's done, all the people he's killed, all the children and wives and husbands and friends who'll never see their loved ones again- because of him. But she forgives him, time after time, though a little part of her worries that one of these days, he'll do something so horrible that even she can't bring herself forgive him for it.

He's soft to the touch

But frayed at the end he breaks

He's never enough

And still he's more than I can take

I don't know, don't know what he's after

But he's so beautiful

Such a beautiful disaster.

But despite it all, despite the fact that he was Stefan's brother and has hurt her more times than she could imagine, Elena finds herself realizing, with utmost certainty, how she feels about Damon Salvatore. It's an unsettling feeling, a warmth that creeps under her skin and refuses to dislodge itself. He's her savior, her destroyer; he brings out her brightest characteristics and her darkest flaws. He's like a wildfire, taking taking taking and burning and so bright and heat and passion and intensity.

And she knows that he's the one for her.
