Chapter 6

Knock, knock

Faye sat up on her bed wondering who is knocking on her door at this time of hour. She assumed if she ignored it the person will eventually go away but she was wrong. Getting out of bed, she walked to the door rubbing her eyes as she opened the door there was Ezio.

"What?" she snapped but kept her voice low so no one could hear her.

"I want to talk to you." he said softly as she sighed grabbing a robe and motioned for him to lead the way.

Ezio took Faye up to the rooftop where it was quiet and private. Walking to the edge where a metal railing fenced the side of the roof. Faye wrapped her hands around the bar and leaned forward looking down at the city below.

"There is a force field so if you jump it will repel you back onto the roof." Ezio stated from behind her.

"Well that's unfortunate." she mumbled turning around to face him still keeping her hands on the bar.

"Time is running out for us." he said walking to the edge so he could stand next to her.

"Yeah, it seems to be." she said staring at the ground.

"Can you promise me something?" he asked all of a sudden which made Faye look at him curiously.

"That depends…"she said slowly as he looked her right in the eyes.

"Promises me that when I'm close to death that you would put me out of my misery." He demanded as her eyes widen in shock.

"Ezio I can't guarantee that I would be there when you're dying." she sighed looking away from him.

"I know but just promise me." he begged closing his eyes tightly.

"You're ready to die aren't you?" she mumbled softly as he nodded his head.

"Adara is going to have my head for this one." she shook her head as Ezio smiled softly.

"Promise?" he asked again as Faye sighed.

"I promise." she said as he hugged her instantly and she returned it.

Deep down inside she prayed that she won't be there when he is dying but then again odds are never in her favor. Tomorrow they will be judged on how skilled they are, then the next day have to prepare for the interview to get sponsors, and finally the following day is the annual 74th Hunger Games. Most would think it would be some type of Olympics like in the older times before Panem formed but times has changed.

"Only few more days left…" Faye mumbled as she pulled away from Ezio who nodded in agreement.

"It's a shame that we might not see graduation and you know I was offer to take that special test to be place with all the really highly intelligent people." He said shaking his head slowly.

"Funny, I was offered to take that test too but I wasn't really going to take it." Faye said crossing her arms as she leaned against the railing.

"Why not?" he asked surprised.

"The people who are placed into the group are never seen again and also the work they do is so top secret that probably deal with the Hunger Games. This is something I really don't want to be a part of." She explained as he nodded in understanding.

As minutes passed, Faye and Ezio talked for a bit longer before sleep started to linger over their heads. Eventually, Ezio gave Faye a piggyback ride back to their floor. Little did they know that Cato was watching them from a far in the shadows. He didn't know how to react to this nor did he like it but truth be told he was not happy either. As his fist in contact with cement wall he didn't feel the pain that shot though his arm or notice the blood dripping from his knuckles because all he felt was anger and he probably won't admit, jealousy…

When morning came all the tributes arrived in the training center one last time to practice any more skills they could use to impress the gamemakers. Faye was practicing with knives with Clove and also trying out the new knives called ninja stars that are basically blades with no handle.

"It's really all in the wrist." The instructor told them as Faye and Clove both held a star in their hands as they faced their target. Clove flitted her wrist and the star flew straight at the target hitting it square in the head. Faye flitted hers and the star hit the target square in the chest.

"I think I'm going to stick with my knives." Clove decided as Faye flitted another star at the target as it hit the same spot again.

"I'm going to use them. Light to carry around and good back up if I run out of weapons." Faye said.

"Don't you think its risky using them, I mean they are new and you just started using them." Clove questioned.

"Like I said they will be back up when I need them but you never know they might not even be in the game." Faye reassured as she picked up a dagger this time and threw it at the target landing on the same spot again.

"I don't know about you but I'm practiced out." Clove said throwing one of her knives at the target not giving it much effort but it still hit the target square in the chest.

"I can see that." Faye said shaking her head as Clove threw more knives at the target.

Faye and Clove continue to practice with targets but soon was disrupted…

"WHERE IS MY KNIFE?!" Cato yelled as everyone turned to look at him then he turned on the boy from six.

"DID YOU TAKE IT!?" Cato yelled at the boy as grabbed the collar of his shirt and shaking him roughly.

"I didn't take anything." the boy said nervously as instructors came to pull Cato away from the boy.

"YES YOU DID! I PUT MY KNIFE RIGHT DOWN RIGHT HERE WHERE YOU WERE!" Cato roared as the instructors held him back.

"I didn't take your knife!" the boy said again but Cato didn't believe him.

"WATCH YOUR BACK BECAUSE YOU'RE GOING TO BE THE FIRST ONE I TAKE OUT." Cato threaten as he pushed the instructors away and stormed off.

"Clove, what was that about?" Faye asked confused because she has never witness Cato that angry before.

"I'm not sure. Maybe to scare some of the other tributes but I'm going to go see him. Hey, one more thing we are all meeting after the interviews up at the rooftop." Clove said as Faye nodded and Clove smiled as she started to walk away towards Cato.

"Now I understand what you meant when you said how darker your friends are." Ezio said walking up behind Faye as she sighed as she looked on over to Cato who was fuming.

"Yeah." Faye mumbled turning her sight somewhere else and caught glimpse of a shiny light high above. Looking up, she saw the knife Cato was yelling about but in the hands of a little girl from district eleven who hanging out up on the ceiling net smirking down at Cato.

"Well, what you do you know? I think I just found the culprit." Faye said as she shook Ezio upper arm gentle to motion to the girl up in the ceiling net.

"Ha, gutsy little thing." Ezio chuckled as Faye shook her head with a smile on her face.

"I guess we can say that she can be really stealthy and can climb so that will be the key to her survival." Faye observed thoughtfully as Ezio nodded his head slowly.

"So trees are the best bet to finding her in the games." Ezio said following the same train of thought as Faye.

"If there are trees. Anyway, are you ready to show the Gamemakers what you got to win?" Faye asked as Ezio raised an eyebrow at her like she was crazy.

"Tried to change your mind." she shrugged as the bell rang signaling the end of practice.

"I guess it's that time." Ezio muttered as all the tributes began to shuffle out of the training room.

This was how it works; tributes from each district would wait in a room and be called to present their skill. As Ezio and Faye waiting patiently in their room as Ezio tapped his foot nervously knowing he was going first.

"Calm down or else you're going to drive me insane with your tapping." Faye snapped rubbing her temples.

"How are you so calm?" he asked angrily.

"I know my capability and what to do. Weakness won't help your score, only what you can offer to table can. If you have nothing to show then the Gamemakers will wipe you out in an instant to save time to show the real entertainment." Faye explained thoroughly as she tighten her ponytail.

"Why doesn't any of that make me feel any better?" he asked as he runs his hands through hair.

"It's what I learned when I was still in District 2 at the academy… in a way its common sense. You shouldn't worry because you already made up from your mind. " Faye said softly.

Before Ezio could reply his name was call to go in. Faye smiled and wished him luck before he walked into the room.

Faye sat there thinking as time went by as she waited patiently to go in there and leave. She continue to stare off into space wondering if she would make it to the finals… what will she do if Cato, Clove and her were the last three standing… how could it be possible for one of them to walk away and be the next victor.

"Faye Lewis District 4." Said the intercom voice, which snapped Faye out of her thoughts.

The District 4 female tribute took her stand in front of the Gamemakers…

"Faye Lewis… District 4 tribute." Faye announced as the Gamemakers nodded.

"You have five minutes to present your skills." Seneca Crane said as Faye nodded slowly.

The first thing she went for were the daggers. Pressing the button for the targets to move, she took a breath and threw the dagger at the target. It hit right in the center so it was a fluid motion… dagger after dagger it stuck right in the center. Then she moved of the arrows letting the bow do its work as she aimed it of each target. Same results right in the center. Few things that were left were the ninja stars and spears. The spear was not an option since it was a little heavier then she was use to but the stars would work.

Like training it was all in the wrist so Faye flicked and it sliced through the air hit the target squared in the chest. Flick after flick the blade hit the target squared in the chest.

The last thing she wanted to do was show her skill with a sword. Swing it through the air; she slowly made her way to one of the dummies and quickly decapitated its arms and head. Within minutes all the dummies had no arms or a head with deep cuts across the chest.

"Thank you, Ms. Lewis." said Crane nodding his head as Faye bowed and left.

On the elevator she closed her eyes, feeling exhausted and somewhat satisfied with the performance she put out there in front of the Gamemakers. Before she even knew it, she felt a pair of hands grab her shoulders and pulling out of the elevator. She was blinded by the bright color blue.

"Tell me! How did it go?" Serenity asked shaking her with the excitement in her body.

Faye stuttered because of the sudden closeness and seeing Serenity's tan powdery make-up face.

"Let her breathe, S." Finnick appeared behind the escort and pulled her back away from his tribute.

"I'm sorry, I didn't get much out of Ezio so I'm a little anxious alright." Serenity sighed.

"Where is he?" Faye asked

"In his room, if you want you can go shower or take a nap before they announce the scores." Finnick suggested.

Faye nodded and quickly rushed into her before Serenity stopped her. She did what was suggested and she took a shower and then a nap before someone came knocking on her door to call her to come out because the scores were going to be announced in five minutes. Slowly, Faye dragged her feet to sit on the couch between Finnick and Ezio, who too seem like just woke up from a nap.

"This is very important…" Serenity said shaking in her sit as the Panem anthem played then a man with blue dyed hair appeared.

"Good evening, it's that time of year again. The 74th annual Hunger Games has arrive and now the all twenty-four tributes has been in the Capital for almost three days now. During these past days they have been training very hard and trying to impress our Gamemakers. Our Gamemakers have scored each tribute from a scale of 0-12 from the performance each tribute did today. Let's begin with our tributes from District One…" Caesar Flickerman said as the picture of Glimmer appeared on the screen.

"Marvel Ayers, score of 9,"

"Glimmer Villarreal, score of 9,"

"District Two, Cato Reyes, score of 10,"

"Clove Faulkner, score of 10,"

"Well no surprise there they do make up the Career Group after all…" Serenity commented as everyone narrowed their eyes at her, but she just shrugged.

"District Four, Ezio Delmore, score of 8,"

"That is great!" Serenity exclaimed clapping loudly as Ezio faced turned red.

"Faye Lewis, score of… oh my," Caesar said eyes widening… this made everyone in the room became tense as Faye grasped Finnick's hand in the process.

"This is history being made now folks, Faye Lewis score of 11…"

Author's Note: So I'm sorry for disappearing for like what…two years. There was a lot of writer's block and school, dealing with graduating and college in about a month. I promise I will try to update as much as possible for those who are still following this story. Also, stay tune to other stories that I might post that is not in the world of Hunger Games. Since I did start this story when I was just a sophomore, hopefully my writing has somewhat improved. And for those who don't like this story, I'm ok with that and understand it might be boring or cheesy. I get it but at least tell me what is wrong so I can improve in the future. Thank you for those who continue to read and review. As a treat here is a taste of the next chapter…

"Next we have one of the girls who scored an eleven. Put your hands together for District Four tribute Faye Lewis!"

"You getting an eleven puts you in danger, Faye." Cato hissed pushing her against the railing.

"Really?" she snorted, "From where I see it, you're jealous that you didn't score the highest."

"That's not the point!"

"Then what is it?!"

"I care about you!"

"Do you know the difference between knowing that you can't have that someone and watching them being taken away?" Peeta asked, as Faye nodded.

"Well, there truly is no difference for me because in the end it's all pain and suffer. I can't have Katniss and soon she will be taken way."

Faye saw his knees fall to the ground and blood soaking his shirt.

"NO!"
