(Start scene)
Naruto was glad they got to the tower before the time limit was up for the second exam. After Lee left to meet back up with his team and Sasuke woke up they headed out. While Naruto got them the earth scroll, they lost the heaven scroll from the last fight. It took them two day to be able to get the heaven one again. They met up with Kabuto and he was able to help them. Together they found a team from the hidden rain village, the very same one who teammate caught him with his pants down literally, and after a fight with Genjutsu they got the scroll they needed.
Naruto felt that he was lucky that those shadows only showed up one time when he was out alone scouting ahead. He didn't even have to use his new weapon during that fight with the rain team. He had the feeling those shadows were following him. But now in the tower he finally got a break. 'Although I wonder why do they keep appearing? And what was that power Sakura use before to send them away?'
He then noticed that two of his oldest friends were off to the side, "Kairi! Namine!" he cried out and waving to them.
The two girls about his age wearing nurse outfits turned and smiled seeing their friend. It was years ago when they first met. Naruto found them alone in the park after he snuck out to watch the meteor shower. The two girls had no memory of who they were expected for their names and the fact they seems to be sisters. When they were growing up they found that they are able to do special abilities. Most of them healing and defensive but they had other abilities such as throw fire balls, ice shards and send down a bolt of lighting on even the clearest days.
Seeing these abilities the third Hokage tried to find out what they were but had no luck and asked the two sisters what they wanted to do. Seeing as their healing 'spells', as they took to calling them, were the most affective they start to train in the hospital as medic ninja. Kairi was the first to reach Naruto and wrapped him in a hug.
"Naruto I knew you would make it to the next part." Kairi said she lets go so her sister could hug her friend. "When they asked the hospital for volunteers for this part of the exams we signed up knowing you would make it."
Naruto grinned, "Well I hope I will get a god fight to show how much stronger I become."
The girls giggled but they could not wait to see Naruto in action. Then the proctor for the second exam called out to everyone, "Alright listen up maggots! Line up in your teams right now!"
The jounin sensei for the teams watched as the teams formed up. Kakashi smiled under his mask seeing his team. Gai gave his rival the thumbs up, "Kakashi my youthful rival it seems both of teams have made it. Their flames of youth burn ever bright."
Kakashi glanced at him, "I'm sorry Gai, did you say something?"
Gai froze stunned before he gritted his teeth and clenched his fist, 'curse you and your hip attitude Kakashi.'
Anko was looking at the teams that passed, 'When I said that that more then half would be cut I was thinking single digits. I guess this year's genin are tougher then I thought.'
"First off, congratulations on passing the Second Phase of the Chunin Exam." Anko said. "We will now have an explanation of the Third Phase of the Chunin Selection Exam from our own Hokage, Everyone listen up, and listen well."
With those words the elderly Third Hokage walked forward to the edge of the raised platform, and coughing out some smoke from the pipe he'd been smoking, began to speak. "The Third Exam will begin. But before the explanation, there's one thing I want to make clear to all of you." The Hokage said in a tone that required any decent person to pay attention, "It's about the true purpose of this exam. In other words, why we do a joint exam with the allied nations of this region of the world. 'To maintain good relations with the allied nations' and 'heighten the level of the ninja' were the reasons you have probably heard but do not let them deceive you. The 'exam', so to speak, is…
The old man was obviously a lover of theatre as he took a moment to puff on his pipe a moment in order to build up the suspense a bit. "…The epitome of a war between the allied nations." Third finished, leaving no mistake in his voice.
"What do you mean?" A girl asked from her position behind Rock Lee.
"If we go back through history, the allied nations right now were neighboring countries that have fought each other over and over again. To avoid wasting military power, those countries decided to choose a place to fight." The Hokage replied as he explained his earlier statement, "That is the beginning of the Chunin Selection Exam."
"Why do we have to do that?" Naruto asked, sounding like he didn't understand anything
beyond the surface meaning of what the Third had said, "We're not doing this to select Chunin's?"
Sarutobi turned to Naruto and gave a small smile before he continued "Yes, this Exam does examine those who are worthy of the Chunin title. But, on the other hand, it's also a place where ninja fight and carry their country's dignity.
"In this Third Exam, feudal lords and famous people from various countries who may be potential clients are invited here as guests. And feudal lords from countries with hidden villages and ninja leaders will see your battles. If there's a significant difference in power, the strong country will be flooded with jobs. If a country is seen as weak, their jobs will decrease. And at the same time, countries are able to show how their village has grown and possess excellent military power to the adjacent countries. In other words, they can put foreign pressure on them."
"So why do we have to fight with the risk of losing our lives?" a foreign nin asked, sounding like he didn't approve of being used in this manner.
"A country's power is the village's power. A village's power is the ninja's power." The Hokage replied promptly, "And a ninja's true power is only born in life-or-death battle. This Exam is also a place to show off the ninja power of one's country. Since this is an exam where you fight with your life on the line, it has a meaning and your predecessors have fought and dreamed of being in the Chunin Exam because of it."
"But why do you say it is to promote good relations?" Lee's teammate asked again, clearly a bit uneasy about not being told all this beforehand.
"I told you at the beginning to not get it confused with that. The custom of saving one's life and fighting to maintain balance… that is the good relation in the world of the ninja." The Hokage said, sounding a bit irritated that one Konoha ninja was still thinking what they'd been told earlier was important, "This is a life-or-death battle for your dream and the village's dignity."
A silence fell over the room as the gathered Genin soaked in what the Third Hokage of Konoha had just told them. Naruto was in awe at how the old man was able to explain everything to them.
"I don't care." Said the gourd carrying Sand ninja with impatience, "Tell us the details of this life-or-death exam."
"Then I will now begin the explanation of the Third Exam, but…" The Third said but before he could go further one of the ninja who had been standing behind him appeared kneeling before him.
"Excuse me, Lord Hokage" Said the long haired ninja who wore his forehead protector like a bandana, "I, Hayate Gekkou, the proctor for the third exam, will explain."
"Please do." The Hokage said, not sounding bothered in the least at being interrupted.
Hayate stood up and faced the crowd. "Everyone, it's nice to meet you." he said stoically before having a slight coughing fit. Once he recovered he started again. "Everyone, before the Third Phase of the Exam, (cough-cough) there's something I want you to do. Fight in some preliminary matches to see who gets to advance to the Third Phase's main fights."
"Preliminary matches? What do you mean?" Asked Shikamaru, sounding like he was something other than annoyed like usual.
"Proctor, I don't understand what you mean by preliminary matches." Sakura said in a more respectful manner than Shikamaru, "Why can't we just start the Third Phase of the Exam with the remaining examinees?"
"In this case, it must have been because the first and second phases of the exam were too easy, I don't know…" Hayate replied with a sigh as he spoke, "But there are too many examinees left. According to Chunin Exam regulations, we must decrease the number of participants before we can proceed with the main matches of the Third Phase of the Exam. As previously mentioned by Lord Hokage, there are many guests for the Third Phase of the Exam, so we cannot just have a lot of matches."
Muttering from the gathered genin at this.
"We are limited on time as well. So those that aren't feeling well…" Hayate said before getting stuck in a coughing fit for a few seconds, "Excuse me. If anyone wants to quit after hearing the explanation, please let me know. The preliminary matches will begin immediately."
"Also you will have one-on-one matches from here on out. Teams do not matter anymore. If you wish to quit it will not affect your teammates any further." Hayate said.
The groups were quite but none came forward or raised their hand.
"Very well, since no one has backed out, then we will begin the third exam preliminary matches. This will be the device that chooses your fate!" Hayate then pointed to a space above the statue of two hands forming a hand sign. The space slid away to reveal a large screen. "Names of fighters will be selected at random, and the ones that are fighting will be shown on the screen." The names were shown and started to shuffle around until it landed on two names: Yoroi Akado vs. Naruto Uzumaki. "The first fighters have been named. Everyone but the two fighters should head up to the balcony."
The groups spilt off and went up to the balconies leaving only Naruto and another leaf genin wearing dark purple cloths, a cloth covering his face. He wore glasses which glinted in the lighting. The genin smirked under his mask at his opponent, 'This will be too easy.'
Hayate watched the two opponents and saw that they were both in their stances before he raised his hand, "Begin!"
Yoroi made the first move and charged at Naruto. His hand glowed with chakra and grabbed Naruto's face. Naruto struggled and tried to get the hand off of his face. Yoroi chuckled, "Just give up; I know you are feeling it. All that charka getting taken, you won't be able to even-"
Naruto had enough and kick the guy in the gut. As he was bent over Naruto followed it up with a knee to the face. The genin was knocked back. Naruto made his favorite hand sign, "Shadow clone jutsu!" and several shadow clones popped up.
While Naruto's old classmates, besides his teammates, were surprise to see so many solid clones Yoroi go back up and was shocked that Naruto could even do a jutsu. "How are you able to do that?" he said with a growl, "I was taking your charka, you should not be able to do any jutsu at all."
Naruto just looked at him, "Oh so that was what you were doing. I didn't even notice."
Yoroi just stared at him freaking out, 'What? He did not even notice? But I was taking enough charka for a couple of chunin. How much charka does this kid have?'
Kakashi watched this and could not help but chuckle, "With Naruto having so much charka he is the worst opponent for this guy."
Naruto punched his fist, "Alright let's go!" and the horde of clones charged.
Yoroi punched and weaved through the horde and popped several of them. But there was so many and he was getting knocked around. The real Naruto however stayed back and gotten the keyblade out. Not one notice that Kabuto and the jounin for the sound team stiffen and went wide eyed seeing that blade.
Naruto used one of his clones to get high into the air and above the battle. Yoroi did not notice Naruto until it was too late and he was swung the keyblade down on his head. The genin dropped like a sack of potatoes. Naruto grinned as he was declared the winner.
He made the keyblade vanished as he walked back to the stands, his teammates and friends cheering. The two that really notice the keyblade eyed him. 'How did he get the keyblade?'
The screen started again and then the names; Kabuto Yakushi and Sakura Haruno appeared on the screen.
Sakura looked determined as she went down to the field. Kabuto simply adjusted his glasses and walked down calmly. Once the two stood there ready the protector began the match. Sakura reacted first and threw several shuriken at her opponent. Kabuto pulled a curved kunai and blocked all of them with ease.
Sakura ran forward and made a few handsigns. Two clones of Sakura appeared on either side of her. Kabuto did not idle as he too made hand signs and his right hand was covered in a pale blue coat of charka.
In her place next to Naruto, Kairi noticed this and gasped. Naruto looked at her, "What's up Kairi?"
Kairi looked at Kabuto as he moved around Sakura's clones. "He is used a move called the charka scalpel. It let medic ninja to perform surgeries with out even cutting the skin. I never seen it used in battle but it will cut her mucles, her organ and all without breaking the skin."
Namine nodded, "And in battle Sakura can do nothing to block it or stop the injuries as they are beyond her reach."
Naruto looked worried epically when Sakura cried out loud.
Sakura did not know what happened. She seen Kabuto dodge an attack of her clone and before she could attack he reach out and briefly tabbed her leg with his glowing palm. She felt pain in her leg and she collapse as her leg could not support her weight. She glared up at Kabuto who simply adjusted his glasses.
"I would suggest you give up. I severed then tendons on your right leg. You can't even stand up right now."
Sakura gritted her teeth. 'No, I can't give up. I have been a burden to Naruto and Sasuke. I have to show everyone I can help stand with them.' She focused and started to stand. Her leg was screaming in pain as she put weight on it but she did not fall even if she was shaky.
Kabuto looked bored, before he lashed out and hit her other leg and arm. Sakura fell again. He looked down at her shaking his head. "You cannot move, you only have one arms to fight with. If I was an enemy I would kill you know or even worst. Face it you lost."
Sakura gritted her teeth, "I won't." she whispered causing Kabuto to raise a brow. "I won't give up," she repeated even louder. She glared at her opponent before she shouts, "I WON'T!"
Then it happened. Just like in the forest a huge wave of force and pressure came from Sakura and filled the whole room. All the genin felt it and some even were forced to their knees. Others stood against it but still felt like it was pressing all around them. Even the jounin felt it and they all stared at Sakura. Kabuto had his hands in front of his face and took a few steps back to try and get away from the pressure. 'This can't be. The last time I felt something like this it came from…'
'…Him,' Orochimaru unknowingly finished his underling. 'How did someone with no ninja back ground able to command such power.'
Kabuto knew what he had to do. He did not get the data he wanted but he gained something more. He raised his hand, "Proctor! I surrender."
This shocked everyone but it did not matter, Hayate raised his hand up, "The winner is Sakura Haruno!" Sakura stopped her shout and the pressure lessen and soon stopped as if ti was never there at all. Sakura sat their panting the shock of winner and doing whatever she did again. Kairi and Namine went down to heal her injuries as she could not move under her own power. Kakashi eyed his student as Asuma asked, "What was that Kakashi? What did you teach her?"
Kakashi said nothing before he answered, "I didn't teach her that. I don't even know what that was."
Naruto smirked, "Way to go Sakura!"
Sakura smiled as her legs and arm were healed. Kabuto went back to his spot in the stands Thinking, 'Lord Aizen will want to know about this.'
