Taking a deep breath Caroline Forbes let herself press call.

After nearly three months she was finally going to do it.

This had been something that she had been avoiding – something she had tried really hard not to do.

She had helped Elena research every animal attack and massacre she could find online and in every newspaper she had subscribed to over the summer. Had her mom working every source the Mystic Falls Sheriff had at her disposal.

But when Stefan Salvatore had literally walked back into her life she hadn't said a peep.

It had been easier not saying anything at all when he didn't say anything to her either and she hid behind the excuse every time they had walked past each other or been in the same room and she hadn't said anything.

And she regretted every wasted moment.

After everything that had happened tonight she knew that she couldn't waste another.

"I stole your number off Rebekah's phone."She said to the beep that answered her, not expecting anything different.

"I don't know what I'm doing or if you're even going to listen to this but I figure it's worth a shot… God I'm rambling. Sorry. I'm kind of having one of those speech moments so I'll just get on with it.

"I've been the world's biggest blonde chicken and an even worse friend and no amount of I'm sorry's will ever be enough to make up for it…. After all of the Klaus stuff this summer so many things were changing and I just… I-I didn't want to lose one of the few really good things left in my life. I didn't want to lose you. "

She took a breath and wiped the tears that had spilled down her cheek.

"That was stupid though and it was selfish and I'm so sorry Stefan, I am. Trying to ignore you is like trying to stay on that bunny diet – like trying not to breathe even though technically I don't need to anymore; it's really freakin hard. So I'm done with it. Not the bunny diet – their kind of getting addictive – the ignoring you thing.

"You made me a promise in a bathroom once, remember? Well I just thought that I should tell you in case you didn't already know – ditto."

She looked up at the darkness of the night sky and prayed that he heard this. Dear god she hoped he heard this.

"I miss you and all your wise vampire Yoda wisdom and your lame jokes and I know you flipped the switch Stefan but I want you to know that on or off I want you in my life. I kind of need you actually. You're the best thing that's ever happened to me Stefan."

"So yeah, just wanted to let you know that I'm here for you. Always."

She rubbed her eyes with the back of her hand and pressed end before placing her cell phone down on the porch steps she was sitting on and wrapped her arms around herself.

No matter what happened after this she had at the very least tried.
