Is It Over Yet?

The cool wind was always one of those cliché things that happened in movies when a sad part came on. The woman's hair would whip around her, and the audience could just feel the goose-flesh of the two characters saying their good-byes.

But, today it was more hurtful than cliché for Kagome Higurashi as she watched her true love grab one of his suitcases to lug it outside of their, now her, small apartment on the first floor. She stood just outside the doorway, her hands clutching at her heart, which was thundering and leaping, trying to break her ribs in order to follow the one that held it. But she would not allow it to happen. She caught his gold eyes briefly, seeing the sorrow in them, but would never be able to match her own. He was the one leaving her.

The young woman wished she could help him with the luggage, but there was no way that she would've been able to stay on her feet. One move and she was bound to crumple to the ground, sobbing. She wished she could ask him to stay, but this was for the best. She wished she could yell at him, tell him she never wanted to see him again, but he would easily be able to see through the lie, so she kept her lips shut and watched him, his body rigged and cold. The taxi pulled into the parking lot, grabbing the young hanyou's attention, along with the woman's.

Just as Inuyasha Takahashi turned towards her, a lonely tear escaped Kagome's chocolate brown eyes, betraying her. He walked up to the young miko, an apology about to pass from him to her, but she would have none of it as she shook her head, a pleading look for him to not make it worse. He didn't listen.

"Kagome, I really am sorry, but I need to leave." His large hand made to touch her arm, a hand that used to hold hers so lovingly, but failed as she pulled away from him.

"I know. I needed some space anyway." He knew it was a lie. She didn't know, and she never wanted any space between them, but she would never have admitted to allowing him to do what he did. She broke the contact between their eyes, their souls, just as he had broken the contact between their hearts, anything to get away from that penetrating honey stare that used to make her feel so warm inside.

The taxi honked, impatient to get his money and be on his way. Closing her eyes, Kagome summoned the rest of her strength and smiled.

"Good-bye, Inuyasha." Looking back up, the miko barely caught the heart break in his eyes, but mentally shrugged it off. He didn't love her anymore.

"Good-bye, Kagome." The suitcases put into the trunk by the driver, there was nothing more to do than to watch him get into the cab and drive away from her to the airport, his job and mistress calling him.

*** Reviews are appreciated. Please remember: constructive criticism. I don't expect I'll be continuing this, it's pretty final. And yes, if you did recognize the small little plot in there, it's based on a song by Wynonna Judd, Is it Over Yet, hence the title.
