Wow, well this is my first story here...ever. :D I'm still a noob on the site and learning how to get everything right. Hopefully the process will be quick.

Disclaimer: I do NOT own One Piece or any One Piece characters but I do own Miyako (the OC).

So this will be a LawXOC fanfic and it is rated Teen because of blood and language. Anyhow, I hope you'll enjoy my story. So let's go! :D

Note: Also, a big thank you to Volleys-chan who is rereading my story, and have offered their help with editing it. They are proofreading and styling the chapters right now, and are in the process of making them more awesome! :D

CHAPTER 1

"Captain, what are we doing here? You're not actually thinking of buying one of them?"

A talking polar bear named Bepo questioned his captain as they headed for the auction house.

They were currently moored at Sabaody Archipelago to restock and prepare for their trip to the New World. The captain of the Heart Pirates, Trafalgar Law, smirked at his first mate's comment but kept silent. "Captain?" The bear called again as they entered Grove 1.

Sensing that Bebo was going to be persistent, Law decided to answer. "I'm just interested in the show they'll put on. Besides...there might be someone interesting there, you never know." He shrugged and his infamous grin widened on his face. Truthfully, he wanted to recruit a swordsman next. Someone like that Roronoa Zoro guy, one of the Supernovas like him, that he'd seen in the wanted posters. Truthfully, Law doubted he'd find someone as skilled in an auction house. Then again…life could be full of surprises.

~…..~

Miyako sighed as she sat on the cold, stone floor. She could hear the whimpers and cries of other people around her. Everyone was nervous, no, terrified as they sat gloomily in the dark. Right now she was in the back room of the auction house, waiting for the bidding to begin. Unfortunately, she was one of the prizes. She sighed again, thinking back on how this came to be and then tugged on the uncomfortably tight collar around her neck. The shackles on her chained arms sang as she did so.

"I wouldn't do that if I were you" a voice spoke up.

The girl turned her head towards the voice and her gaze fell upon an older man. His face was grim, like that of a man waiting to be taken to the gallows. "If you try to take it off, you'll just set it off. And there's no way a little girl like you could survive such an explosion."

She regarded him silently as he spoke, but her expression revealed neither annoyance nor fear for her life. She didn't even look like she particularly cared that she was in an auction house. In fact, she almost looked bored. "Hn, even if you say so…it's too tight and my neck itches," she said, a glimmer of annoyance showing on her face.

"Heh, you don't look too concerned. Aren't you afraid of getting sold as a slave?"

Miyako looked back at the man and shrugged indifferently. "Even if I trembled with fear, it wouldn't change a thing. It's not like I want to be a slave, but there's nothing much I can do about it right now. I guess I'll simply have to find a way to escape later."

"Heh, you're a weird little girl." The man grinned slightly, but the act was a hollow gesture, and never reached his tired eyes.

"I'm not a little girl…," she mumbled, a bit irritated by the way he addressed her.

Her grumblings were interrupted by a loud scream and some shouts that echoed through the dark room of the auction house. She didn't have to wait long to see what was going on. A few men working at the auction house were dragging an unwilling mermaid towards one of the cages. The mermaid was screaming and thrashing wildly, but her efforts weren't much help in stopping the inevitable. However, what truly surprised her was the sudden burst of haki that washed over her senses, and not even a second later, all the men holding the mermaid collapsed completely unconscious from the powerful wave of willpower. Miyako easily traced its presence back to an older man sitting silently in the dark. She couldn't see his features, but based on the power of that haki she knew he wasn't just an ordinary old man. The man, however, remained silent and unmoving as the mermaid was caught again, restrained, and had one of those big collars put around her neck. The poor girl finally gave up on fighting, now sniffling and crying silently in her water tank. Miyako closer her eyes. She wished she could help. She wished she could aid all these people here, but right now she couldn't even help herself. It was too risky to try anything with so many guards around and her own bomb collar was surely a death sentence if she tried. She would escape once she managed to take the infernal thing off, but until then she was forced to stay silent and obedient. The girl gritted her teeth at the thought.

~….~

"And now ladies and gentlemen, thank you for your patience! I am your humble host, Disco-san! Let the show begin!" The nasty man shouted in excitement and nearly everyone in the house started cheering, applauding the gaudy individual.

Just hearing it made Miyako sick. *To think such despicable human beings actually existed.* She sighed, something she worried would become a habit since it seemed like the only thing she did recently. The bidding started, and soon after, the man who had spoken to her walked out on the stage. He kept his gaze down, staring at his own feet, and didn't even glance at the girl who followed him with her eyes, as if he just wanted to get this over with quickly. His demeanor appeared as if he was walking towards the end of his life. The man disappeared behind the large curtain that separated their dark cells from the stage and all went silent for a while. Suddenly, screams and shouts were heard and he was dragged back to the cells.

"What happened?" One of the guards asked in a hurry.

"He bit off his tongue!" Another man exclaimed.

The first man twisted his face in disgusted before ordering, "Quick, dispose of this trash!"

Miyako's gaze softened as she watched the lifeless body being dragged out of the room. She had spoken to him not even an hour ago and now he had taken his own life over being a slave. He hadn't even tried. The callous scene just made other slaves even more anxious and scared. Panicked whispers could be heard all around in the dim lighting. Miyako didn't engage. She preferred to remain calm and continued to think up escape plans, trying to tune out the giddy atmosphere of the crowd. Their excitement towards owning other living, sentient people were extremely dehumanizing to her. It wasn't long before her number was called and two thugs dragged her out on the stage.

The bright lights blinded her and she had to shield her eyes to see into the distance where a cheering crowd awaited the newest arrival. She was surprised by how many people there were, growing more irritated by it. It truly was disgusting to witness humanity at its lowest. Yet most of these people claimed to be the peak of society.

However, her face remained calm and unfazed, not wanting to give these people the satisfaction of seeing her unease. She grit her teeth, and swore to get through this with her pride and dignity intact. Then Disco started introducing her and her pride and dignity quickly took quite a blow. "Coming all the way from Wano country, the New World, here comes Miya-chan!" Upon hearing her new nickname, Miyako stared at him with abhorrence, mouthing the name in disbelief. *Miya-chan? Is he serious?*

~…..~

Law was leaning on the back of his seat, bored as hell. He thought at least the show would be interesting, but this was just sad to watch. The most exciting thing that happened thus far was that guy biting his tongue off and giving both the nobles and auctioneers quite a surprise. It was amusing to watch all those nobles scream in panic, their feathers ruffled for once in their high-and-mighty lives. *And none of the slaves were interesting either,* he thought in disappointment.

He was just about to get up and leave with his crew when another person was escorted onto stage. This time it was a young woman, dressed in a kimono. She had strange, burning golden eyes and long dark blue hair that resembled the color of a starless night. Based upon her features and appearance, it was obvious she was from a country far away. What drew Law's attention most, however, wasn't her appearance but her attitude. The other slaves had run the gambit of emotions from anger to despair. She, on the other hand, looked completely calm as if she hadn't a care in the world. As he gazed more carefully, Law thought she almost appeared bored. It was enough to make him remain in his seat. A sly grin appeared on his face. "This might be interesting after all…," he commented softly.

"This lovely woman is 19 years old. She has excellent swordsmanship and fighting skills and her intelligence isn't bad either. We guarantee that a game of chess or shogi will never be boring with her. And on top of all that, we must admit she is quite easy on the eyes." Disco finished with a grin and a wink towards the audience, trying to boost up her worth by any means necessary, as if she were an object rather than another human being. He was trying to make her more desirable to the crowd, whether by her skill, intellect or physical appearance; it didn't matter as long as the money was good in the end.

Miyako saw some of the noblemen in the crowd grin in response, taking a liking to Disco's hint as a few gave her appearance a thorough, leering inspection a few times over, and it flooded her with feeling of disgust. She repressed a shudder, maintaining her passive expression, although her eyes flashed briefly with irate. She hadn't liked that she had to give them information about herself, such as swordsmanship skills, but they had threatened to break her fingers if she disobeyed. That was something no swordsman could afford. The auction thugs had delivered a potent threat and hadn't even realized it. The samurai girl had had no choice but to give something away, which ironically, in turn heightened her odds of being sold. This she had liked even less.

"We will start the bid at 800,000 Beri. Do we have 800,000?" Disco asked, and saw someone raise his hand. "800,000!" "900,000!" A voice yelled. "950,000!" Another countered.

The girl paid more attention now that the bidding started, as she was curious to know who would purchase her. What type of person this was would affect her possibility of escape later. If a Tenryuubito bought her, Miyako knew it would be nigh impossible to escape, although she would endeavor to attempt one anyway. She did her best not to clench her jaw at the anxiety of all the unknown factors. After all, any escape plan she would have to devise, strongly depended on the result of this situation.

"1,050,000 Beri!" someone shouted, and everyone turned in the direction the voice had come from. Miyako tried to look too, but it was difficult from her position because the man was far in the back and the bright lights from the reflectors were obstructing her vision. She could hear whispers break out in the hall and some of the people up front appeared clearly nervous, especially the ones who had just bade for her moments before. Either the amount was too much for them to counter, or the person was someone they didn't want to go up against. She suspected the latter.

*A Tenryuubito maybe,* she thought worriedly, but managed to remain calm. Her eye twitched slightly, the only outward indication of concern, but the beating of her heart quickened its pace considerably.

"1,050,000 going once! Going twice! SOLD, for 1,050,000 Beri to Mister Trafalgar Law!" Disco shouted and motioned for the guards to take her away. Miyako felt relief flood through her at the understanding that this man wasn't a Tenryuubito, but it didn't mean she was in the clear yet. She didn't recognize the name of her soon-to-be, but not for very long if she could help it, master - thus had no information to work with.

She couldn't relax yet as she was taken away to the back rooms and sat in one of the cells. She was even more bored now as the auction crawled to an end, far too slow for her taste. After a few more slaves, she saw the mermaid from earlier being prepared to be displayed onstage. The girl was carted away in a large fish tank covered with a big cloth like a surprise gift. Just another reminder of what these people thought of the whole auction, as if it was simply a big show for everyone to enjoy. For a moment, Miyako thought about how much she would enjoy cutting them up with her katana. This, however, only reminded her of the empty space around her waist where her sword used to be. *I'll also have to get that back somehow. I guess the one who bought me will get all my property so it should be fine, I'll just have to steal it before I escape.*

"Captain! Captain, what are you doing?!" Bepo all but freaked out after the girl was taken away. Trafalgar merely continued smirking and crossed his legs as he watched the rest of the bidding take place. He felt eyes on him and turned around where the Supernova, Eustass Kidd, stood. Sure enough, he saw Captain Kidd giving him a strange look. Law raised an eyebrow mockingly as if saying 'What? Did you want her too?' He knew that wasn't the case, but it was pleasing to piss off his competition, especially the flaming redhead with anger issues.

Kidd frowned slightly, as if he was trying to puzzle out Law's plan, much like poor Bepo was. Trafalgar shrugged at him and turned back to the stage, ignoring the other captain again.

"I know you wanted a swordsman for your crew, Captain, but are you sure about this? And she's a woman, don't they say it's bad luck to bring a woman onboard...and if she got caught how can she possibly be strong enough for the New World?" Bepo's questions continued in rapid fire as the bear barely paused for breath.

Yet Law's grin only continued to grow, as he was mildly amused by the perplexed bear and his numerous questions. "I suppose we'll find out soon enough."

Well that's that for the first chapter, I hope you like it. Feel free to rate, comment or whatever. :)
