17 Words Before Bed.

Summary: Elena. Damon. Lust. What more can I say? Wordplay, fun and angst.

D/C: Not my characters.

Damon Salvatore had never felt so uncomfortable on his black satin sheets. His mind was racing around in circles. Elena, Elena, Elena. Her hair a brown velvet river, her smell faint but memorable like jasmine in the breeze, the way her eyes sparkled like liquefied chocolate, her smile sometimes so shy and other times so brazen a bold. Katherine had duplicitous but once you knew her true nature there was so little to her, she was as shallow as kiddie pool. Elena was so many things, sister, protector, friend, confidant, fighter and peacemaker. She wasn't his, and yet he was hers. She consumed him, effortlessly.

Elena Gilbert tossed and turned against the white percale sheets. Piercing blue eyes chased away sleep. Dark locks beckoned her. An upturned half-smile teased and tortured her, seducing her. He was so powerful yet somehow he was the vulnerable one. He was the one she hurt too easily, too readily, perhaps because she admired his single-mindedness. She was always trying to keep everyone happy, but not him. He had a short list, carefully prioritised, and his name was on the top. It should have made him selfish but somehow he was one of the most selfless people she knew. Perhaps because he was so unrestrained by human constrains. He would do anything for her. He would walk through fire for her. His desire was unwavering, his commitment absolute. Elena wasn't sure that humans were capable of that sort of steadfast irrefutable devotion. She was his whether she chose it or not. He fulfilled some longing inside her she hadn't yet named or understood and yet she craved him.

Authors Note: It would be so fun if instead of a regular review (though those are cool too) post your favourite word (from my list or your own) for Damon and Elena and/or another character(s).

Believe it or not this was partly inspired by William Blake's "Auguries of Innocence," the whole idea of paradoxes so totally applies to Damon and Elena and their complicated feelings for each other. Though it was also inspired by my needing to go to bed, which is substantially less academically impressive!
