Chapter 19

Thank you for the reviews, it is very encouraging to know that people are enjoying this fics. When I started to write this it was going to end when Scarlett miscarried. I'm not entirely sure what direction this will end up going, I don't have a clear picture yet of what I want to happen. I'll keep it going along as it make sense to.

"Don't just stand there Rhett, give your mother a hug" Eleanor stood up as Rhett walked over to her, he hugged her and gave her a kiss on the cheek. Eleanor sat back down and straightened her skirt.

"What brings you to Atlanta?" "Have I surprised you dear?" "A little." Rhett said as he took a seat next to his mother. "Don't get me wrong I am delighted to see you, it's just unexpected" "I know I should have written but by time the letter would arrived I would already be here." "Judging by the amount of luggage you've had my servant bring in it seems like you'll be staying for a while. Or am I just a stop along the way?" "I intend to stay a while. I would like to see what my son has been up to." "Mother" Rhett said shifting uncomfortably. "I had the most interesting conversation with Eulalie Robillard, she seems to think her nieceā€¦" Rhett cut her off before she could finish "I'm sure whatever gossip you've heard is accurate." "I figured as much. I would have preferred to hear it from you. I would like to meet the women who has finally tamed you". "I can get Scarlett, she is in the study."

Walk walked into the study, Scarlett was sitting in by the fireplace with her eyes closed. "Scarlett" "hmm" Scarlett moan "There is someone in the parlour that I would like you to meet." "Who is it? "My mother" Scarlett's eyes shot open "Your mother is here?" "Yes" "Rhett, I can't meet your mother. What would she think of me?" "She came all the way from Charleston to meet you." "But Rhett" "my pet, she intends to stay. You won't be able to avoid her forever, you might as well meet her now. You may even like her, she did have me you know. She can't be that bad."

Rhett took Scarlett's hand and led her to the parlour. The stopped in the hallway as Manigo walked past with another trunk. "She doesn't pack light." Scarlett said watching Manigo start up the stairs. Rhett chuckled.

"Mother, this is Scarlett" Rhett said as they entered the parlour. Eleanor stood up as Rhett pushed Scarlett forward towards her. "Hello Mrs. Butler. It's a pleasure to meet you." "It's nice to meet you too Scarlett. You must call me Eleanor, you're my daughter after all." "Alright" "I believe we've met before, you were much younger. Your mother brought you and your sisters to Charleston to visit you Aunts. I was very sorry to hear about your mother's passing. "Thank you." Scarlett said lowering her head slightly.

"Why don't I have Mammy make us some tea?" Rhett said "oh no, none for me. I'm going to go lay down for a while." "Are you alright my dear?" Rhett asked. "Yes, I'm fine. Just a little tired. It was nice meeting you Eleanor, I look forward to getting to know you better." "As do I" Eleanor said as she sat back down on the settee. Scarlett left the parlour pausing as Manigo passed her with another trunk.
