Proposal
"Do you want to marry me?"
Gui sat up in surprise and looked at the elf. They were lying on the elf's bed and the day in Second Life had been hot and humid, making many players choose to seek refuge in their houses to stay out of the heat, lethargic and dozing away off and on. Now, late in the evening, the air had cooled off enough to a more pleasant temperature. And Prince had dropped such a big question on him suddenly.
"It would be nice," Gui answered slowly. "but impossible."
"No. I meant offline." he elaborated, sitting up himself.
Gui studied Prince's face for a while, obviously deep in thought.
"...No. I wouldn't."
Prince gasped slightly and moved hastily, steadying himself enough to kneel on the bed and stared at Gui, his expression a mixture of surprise and disbelief. A certain amount of hurt was in it as well, though he was trying to hide it.
"W-why?! The gender thing doesn't matter, after all!" he asked. While same-sex marriage was not possible in Second Life, something that had gotten the game some flak upon its initial release, it was quite normal offline. The possiblity of same-sex marriages was even approaching its 100th anniversary. Though it didn't matter in their case, since Prince was not a man offline, just that Gui didn't know that... yet. "Is it cause I'm younger than you? But what are six years? Or... or is it because I'm dumb? Cause I don't have an IQ of 200? Or-"
Gui interrupted him by lifting his hand and Prince shut up. He likely wanted to elaborate on his previous statement. Or perhaps he had realized that the elf was beginning to think that the reason Gui didn't want to marry him was because he didn't love him enough, after all.
"I wouldn't marry you right this moment."
Prince took a deep breath and tried to calm himself. "...why?"
"Because you are my student-"
"That's why?" The elf couldn't help but give a relieved, hysterical giggle. "That's... that's it? But that's nothing! Nobody cares about such relationships anymore, Gui. Some teachers are even married to their students, while still teaching the class, so-"
Again, Gui lifted his hand to stop Prince.
"That may be, but this is a line for me that I will not cross. Call me old-fashioned, I just do not think such a relationship could work out in the long run. Neither of us would be on an equal level and," he continued, then hesitated for a bit. "no offense, Prince, but I don't think you would be able to separate our private and professional relationship."
"I..." the elf began, then stopped and thought about it.
If he and Gui honestly did begin a romantic relationship offline, the knowledge of it would also affect their behavior toward each other during class. Up to now, only Prince knew Gui's identity on- and offline. Memories of what had been going on between them while in Second Life cropped up in his mind during class, sure, but aside from being distracted, it didn't affect him too much. But with both knowing, and dating, would he be able to make sure to not take on a too familiar note when talking to his teacher? Able to keep his mind separate from things happening online, as well as offline? The former was already difficult now.
"Fine," Prince sighed, seemingly sinking into himself. "I guess this means you still wouldn't date me, even if I revealed my real identity to you, before I graduate?"
"Correct." Gui answered, though there was a pained smile on his face. "But on the day of your graduation, I would present you all my love and a silver ring on bended knees."
The elf looked surprised for a moment, then began to blush a deep color at the idea of being proposed to at graduation, likely in front of everyone. Snuggling back up to him, he tried to hide his face in the other's chest.
"I still think your limit is stupid..." he moped.
"Maybe." the bard chuckled.
Within The Dream
Takes place during 'Ai No Uta'
Sighing slightly, Prince woke up and realized how comfortable and warm he felt. He began to open his eyes, but had to cover them with his hand again. The room was pretty bright, with sunlight streaming through the not-quite-closed curtains, and he wasn't quite ready for that much light yet. Taking his time, the elf stretched and felt his muscles move.
"Nice nap?" a familiar voice asked.
Shocked, Prince's eyes snapped open and, immediately, they stung with the sudden change of brightness. He stared up at the white ceiling, thinking it was impossible to have heard that voice. Surely, it had just been his imagination playing tricks. Slowly, he sat up and turned to his side, where the voice had come from.
Gui was sitting at the desk, his usual robes almost trailing onto the floor and was putting a mug of what smelled like coffee onto the top of the desk. He looked quizzically at Prince, tilting his head slightly to the side.
"What?" he asked, chuckling slightly, wondering about the surprised, almost shocked, expression on the other's face.
Prince stared at the bard, his mouth agape, and crawled onto all four. Then he suddenly crawled across the bed, his footing uneven and lost his balance when he got to the edge, knocking his kneecap on the ground and stopping himself, falling into Gui's lap. Gui gripped Prince's shoulders, steadying him.
"You okay?"
His knee was pounding as hard as his heart was, but he wasn't focusing on that. Instead, he was aware of the feeling of the fabric against his cheek and the warmth Gui was giving off. Even if the top coat of his robes felt icy, it was the only one, the others feeling warm and comforting to him. Prince's fingers dug themselves into the cold fabric and he felt his eyes beginning to water, though he was intent to not cry. But Gui was here. He was really here, with him, and warm with body heat.
"Prince?" Gui muttered in his calming voice.
Sniffing quietly, the elf climbed onto the bard's lap and snuggled up to him, putting his arms around Gui.
"You're usually not this cuddly. Not at this time of the month." the bard added, embracing the elf himself.
He was so warm. Prince had missed his warmth and closeness, even if it had been barely three weeks since he had felt it last. It reminded him of other times they had been together, just like this. He snuggled up as close as possible, inhaling the bard's slightly musky scent. Such a familiar scent.
"Bed." he mumbled.
Gui smiled slightly and got up, with Prince still clinging to him and took the one step to the bed, letting the elf carefully fall back onto it. He slipped his shoes off and lay almost on top of the elf in one swift move, kissing him. The elf reciprocated, but gave a slight push back. As much as he wouldn't mind going further, it wasn't really what he wanted or needed right now.
"Just... hold me." he whispered, incapable of holding back a slight crack in his voice.
The other nodded and kissed him again, but positioned himself differently. He held Prince close to himself, one hand caressing some of those silvery-white tresses. And Prince couldn't help but sigh, feeling a few tears escape from beneath his eyelids. This is what he had wanted all this time. Even if he had admitted that he just wanted 'one last hug' from him, it wouldn't have been enough. One hug couldn't make up for a lifetime of them being together.
He clawed his fingers the fabric of Gui's clothes and tried to keep his voice steady and his emotions under control.
"I love you."
"I know. I love you, too." Gui answered, kissing the elf's cheek. "But you're just dreaming."
"I know..." the elf muttered. He knew it, it was the only possible explanation. But he didn't care. "Don't wake me."
Passive
Prince loved sleeping with Gui. The feeling of his weight pushing him deeper into the matress, the waves of ecstacy that went through is body when he came and how warm Gui's skin felt beneath his fingertips. And that wonderful feeling of just being loved. He especially loved it when Gui went slowly the entire time. Though there was one thing that bugged the elf.
"Gui? Doesn't it bother you?" he asked.
They were in bed, still reeling a bit from their latest love-making, cuddling, enjoying each other's closeness and the room dark, except for the lamp on the nightstand that was casting a soft light. The bard interlocking his fingers with Prince's.
"Bother? What?"
Prince looked at him for a second, then focused on their fingers, blushing.
"That I'm so... passive... in bed."
Gui looked at the elf in surprise and chuckled, making Prince frown.
He knew his question was a little silly, but did he have to laugh? Well, obviously, Gui didn't mean his chuckle in a nasty way, but it just seemed such a weird reaction. ...was it really that funny of a question? It had bothered him for a while, that he was so passive. He knew he didn't have a whole lot of experience in bed, but he had some. Though, he had to admit that... it was a bit difficult to do anything. Gui was good at finding his weakspots.
Just thinking about it made his entire body go warm all over again.
"No, it doesn't bother me." Gui finally answered, after he stopped chuckling.
"But..." Prince mumbled. "It feels like you're doing all the work and... you know, I do nothing."
"I can see why that bothers you. Although, if I'm honest," the bard said and pulled the elf closer, brushing his hair aside and leaning toward his ear. "it really turns me on to hear how much you enjoy my touch."
Prince flinched hard at those words and made the bed shake for a second, his face a deep, red shade.
Oh, so that was why it didn't bug him. Or just one reason. He knew he was rather... vocal... when aroused, but that it had such an effect on Gui... Though, there were times he was still holding himself back. He thought of himself as being a little too sensitive and tried to not react too loudly. But as good as this news was, it didn't change anything about the original problem.
"Mh. I see. Still..." he said, avoiding eye contact. "I don't want to be passive all the time. Maybe I'll surprise you and, you know, be more assertive some time."
Gui pulled Prince closer to him and kissed his forehead. "I'll look forward to that."
Private Conversation
Takes place during 'Paradise', if Prince and Gui had been longer on the island or during a cold front
Prince snuggled up closer to Gui.
It had gotten much cooler in a very short time on their island. The leaden sky grew a darker shade and the wind strong, almost biting. Now fully knowledgeable about how fast the weather could change here, they knew they had to prepare for a cold environment very fast. In a hurry, more driftwood and even some fresher wood was collected to keep a fire going, though the latter was not as good for that purpose.
The sail had been cut up again. Once, as a second layer of a blanket for their bed and a second, bigger piece was now used as something to cover the entrance of the cave, to keep majority of the wind and cold out. The bottom of it had been cut into strips and small stones tied to them, to weigh it down and keep it from fluttering too easily. It certainly caused the already rather dimly-lit cave to be darker throughout the entire day, but it didn't matter that much to them.
Their food supply had also dwindled.
Since they had no proper shoes, and whatever they could make with leaves was not enough for cold weather or even the potential threat of snow, going out to look for what little food there was had become rarer. Fortunately, since they spent most of the day in bed, close together for warmth, they didn't use a lot of energy and didn't feel as hungry as before.
Even if their situation had become a bit more miserable from before, Prince didn't mind too much.
They were warm. Safe. And, to while away the hours of inactivity, he and Gui had begun talking a lot to each other. Starting off as more joking and teasing, they eventually went into more serious conversations, deeper topics that allowed them to open up to each other. And it really let them get to know the other more. Even about things that usually would not have come up so easily.
"You really want to know?" Gui asked, a little surprised and even confused by Prince's question.
"Yes. I won't get jealous. Promise." the elf answered with a nod.
"Hmm," Gui went and closed his eyes, one head resting on his bent arm. "I never really thought much about it or counted. Of course, there are differences between 'girlfriends' and having a 'relationship'..."
"Well, sexual partners, then. Come on," Prince teased and gave the bard a slight poke in the chest. "I'm curious."
"About... I'd say..." he kept stopping, still thinking and calculating. "Not quite ten, but close to it?"
"S-seriously?" the elf couldn't help but gasp and sat up in surprise.
Then he felt how much cooler the cave felt and quickly lay down again, pulling the covers back up to his shoulders. He had to admit, he was a little shocked at the answer, but also surprised at his reaction to it. Gui was a very handsome man and was an interesting person, so if one thing didn't appeal to someone, the other certainly could. And he knew that Gui had previous relationships, whether it be a purely physical or emotional one. But somehow, the fact that it was almost two digits still startled him a bit. A part of him even wondered whether that was 'a lot' or wasn't.
"What about you?"
"Eh?" Prince gasped. "Um... offline or do ones in VR games count?"
"Both?"
"Well, I..." the elf hesitated for a second. "I haven't really had a relationship offline. Or, you know, partners. Only in these types of games. But there, it'd be... less than five?"
Gui smiled.
"Okay, my turn. Since you brought up this type of topic, I got curious myself." he said. "With your previous partners, where you also the receiver there or the giver?"
Prince frowned slightly, wondering what Gui was talking about. Then it dawned on him and he blushed. It was true, the two of them hadn't just gotten emotionally closer, but also physically. Not to the extent that they had 'gone all the way' as one was wont to call it. But some things had happened... and what else was there to do when stuck in a place, stricken with boredom and no real outlet for a lot of things? Not that that was the only reason for how things had proceeded between them.
"Um," Prince hesitated. "I was always the receiver."
Panic-stricken, he wondered for a second if he should have worded it that way. It technically wasn't a lie, as he had always played as his usual female self in those games and, whatever happened with the in-game husbands, was quite standard. So it was the truth, though not quite, since Gui didn't know the whole actually-a-woman-and-usually-playing-as-one thing.
"But, to be honest," he continued, blushing furiously now. "those times there were not as... intense? Maybe?"
The bard looked at him quizzically.
"Like, with us, it feels... well, real." Prince muttered. "With the other games, um, the realism factor wasn't that high... and even if it was, most of the VR games didn't put a lot of focus on that aspect - unless it was an 18+ VR game and I haven't played those. So, you know. In the other games, it felt more... mechanical? Not like it was actually happening... just a general feeling of... being aware of feeling something. Uh, does that make sense?"
For goodness' sakes, this was his literature professor! What kind of description was that? If this was an assignment on expressing one's opinion on a book, he'd definitely get low points for it. But he didn't really feel like going into detail. Gui hadn't when talking about his previous partners, so Prince felt like he shouldn't, either. Unless Gui asked, in which case he would explain more. Like that one game, where any intimate moment was a fade-to-black sensation that took all of three seconds and the only thing that the game had allowed to indicate anything had happened, was that their clothes had been automatically rearranged.
Prince felt a playful tug pulling him closer to Gui.
"Aww," the bard said with an exaggerated pout. "and here I thought you said it felt more real cause I love you."
"Huh?" Prince blushed again and then felt Gui's lips on his.
The topic was overall closed on that. For now, at least.
Oh, we know you're lying about those games, Prince.
Well, maybe not. Maybe Lan bought the 18+ VRs, but had been too busy to play them yet.
Hope everyone has some nice remaining holidays!
