It was a rainy Sunday morn when I heard a slight knock on the painted white door that sealed me from the elements on the outside and kept me safe from any harm. \

"I'll get it!" I yelled to my wife. I got up from my computer to walk downstairs.

"Alright Isaac." She replied.

I made my way to the white door slowly. Moving my walking sick onto the right side of the wall because I knew the closet door was in the way, Kaitlyn had always left it open.

I had memorized the position of objects in my house long ago, in a half remembered nightmare, before Augustus died. Before Hazel moved to Amsterdam. Before I married Kaitlyn. But, I'd rather not talk of those days. I hardly mentioned Augustus's name anymore.

My hand traveled to the smooth wooden rail that lead down the one staircase in our small house. I hardly remembered what wood looked like. I wish I had because it seems like an important material now that the government is tearing all of the trees in the world down. The carpet beneath my feet was fluffy and soft. I'm not sure of the color, though.

I reached for the doorknob, smooth and cold from the freezing temperatures outside. As the door creaked open I heard Kaitlyn come down the rickety stairs.

"How may I help you?" I said.

"Hello, Isaac?" It was a man talking.

"I am Isaac, yes." I replied.

"Uh, how may we help you fine men?" Oh so there was more than 1 man at the door.

"Hi, we're with the REA." The hell is the REA?

"May I ask what the hell REA stands for?" I said.

"Robot Eye Association, sir." The other man replied. He had a deeper voice than Man #1.

"Uh,"

"We're here today to give you a pair of Robot Eyes, sir." said Man #1

I only had one response.

"Im sorry but I can't accept these. Seeing a world without Augustus Waters is not anything worth seeing."

I proceeded to slam the door and walk back up to my computer to re-read/hear Augustus's pornographic email he sent me those many years ago when the world was worth seeing.
