It had started with simple curiosity.
He had never seen a ship so close up before, and well, the ones on the ocean floor hardly counted as anything when faced with the working version.
Large, steel, and very menacing, the Karaboudjan (at least that's what the side of the ship had written on it) was not something that many actually wanted to get near. Not that anyone was insane enough to get near a ship of any kind, regardless of its name.
Except for one, of course. The only one among them who did not have a bit of fear towards the land dwelling creatures called "humans". Of all the merfolk in the whole Atlantic Ocean, Tintin was the only one who was crazy enough to call himself a researcher of human culture.
Perhaps that was why he took off after the impossibly large vessel, curiosity, but anyone who knew Tintin knew he was doing it for the thrill, for the chance at adventure. Not that anyone really had taken the time to get to know the young merman, but that was beside the point.
Tintin swam as fast as he could towards the ship, wondering what to do when he caught up with it because truthfully? He had not thought that far ahead and honestly, he was surprised he had made it this far in the first place. Luckily for him, the Karaboudjan's engines were stalling and as a result, only going about a fourth of their full speed. Still, catching up to a ship designed to go at over 40 knots was no easy task for the fit mer and by the time he had finally gotten close enough to touch the thing he was completely exhausted.
Luck was on his side that day however, since the great ship was in fact a cargo ship, there was a small docking bay in the very back of the ship, large enough for him to crawl up on and rest.
Finding himself drift off to dreamland, Tintin felt that this was the start of a grand adventure indeed.

Hello! I do hope that you enjoyed my story so far, before I continue I want to get a few things out of the way.
This will inevitably end up as slash and I apologize to anyone who may be offended by this. This story was inspired by a picture I saw a few days ago of Tintin as a merman and Haddock staring at him in shock. Once I'm not super lazy I'll find the link. I didn't grow up with Tintin but after seeing the movie, watching the 70's cartoons, and reading a bit of the comic, I find that I really like the Adventures of this particular reporter. This is meant to be set in the 1920's or 1930's so if there is something about the story that strikes you as wrong, please let me know! Especially if I get a name wrong. or if I screw up the mythology.
