Loving You Forever, Can't Be Wrong
One Shot
Soap left more than his team, his gun, his duty and he left more than just his long time friend Price, he left a woman he knew would be waiting forever.
He had told her to forget him, his existence, the 2 years, the embraces, the kisses and the life they had shared. As if he somehow knew he would never come back.
'Just promise me you'll try to forget.'
'No John I can't.'
'Please'
'If I asked you to do the same thing, would you?' She turned the question back on him afraid of his answer. He paused, still intently looking into her tearful eyes; he knew that for her sake there could only be one answer.
'I would.'
Pain seared through her heart, burning her insides, she knew he was only saying this so that she would hate him for it, but she denied it, still clutching on his black jacket, she shook her head in his chest. He kissed her forehead delicately one last time, the warmth lingering, even as he broke away from her and walked out of her life in the space of seconds.
'Soap!' Price shouted, as his friend's eyes threatened to close, 'Stay with us son!'
The agonizing pain reached a point of numbness; the sounds of bullets hitting the ground like a heavy monsoon were muffled by the blurring of his mind. He simply heard the whistling of the metal vessels through the thick smoky air before darkness clouded his vision. He knew.
He knew he would not make it. He wished she wasn't waiting, but knowing her stubborn nature she would be, sitting in the house they once shared, sprawled on the beaten up sofa they would spend Saturday nights watching movies, ones they would hardly pay any attention to, too distracted with each other's presence.
He could hear her soft voice in the distance, like the sound of chimes being carried by the wind. He could feel her skin against his face as if they were embracing, her smooth porcelain skin creating heat against his own rough complexion as the friction increased between them. It was as if he was with her now, in her arms, lulling him to an endless sleep with a final lullaby.
She came home that night, like every night, repeating the same mantra, the same regular cycle. She tossed her keys in the glass bowl by the door and kicked her shoes off her feet while making her way to the living room. She slumped on the sofa, pulling the bun on her head loose. She sat in silence for a few moments looking at the empty space beside her, though empty every time she came home she would feel his slight presence there; smiling down at her cheekily like he always would. But tonight, it was different; loneliness overcame her, a weight pressing down on her chest as she sighed suddenly feeling alone. Sitting in the darkness, she could no longer feel his presence with her. It was as if he left her completely that evening, with only the memories they had shared to comfort her on that desolate night.
