Author's Note: This is my first Harry Potter fic so please bear with me.

Harry Potter, Ron Weasely, and Hermioner Granger could only watch, frozen in terror, as the newly transformed Remus Lupin advanced on the, growling.

Suddenly, Professor Severus Snape came out of the Whomping Willow and grabbed Harry.

"Potter,-" he started.

Lupin snarled, and Snape whirled. At the sight of the werewolf, all thoughts of punishment fled the potions master's mind. He quickly shoved the trio behind him to shield them as best he could, knowing that while Lupin would never willing harm any of the students he was unable to control himself while a werewolf unless he had taken his Wolfsbane potion, which he had not.

Forgotten was the fact that Snape was undoubtedly the meanest professor at Hogwarts, meanest person second only to Argus Filch. Forgotten was the fact that the three children behind him were Griffyndors and he Head of Slytherin. Forgotten was the fact that he loathed Harry Potter more than any other student. All that Snape was aware of was that fact that he had to do everything he possibly could to protect these kids.

Lupin swiped at them, knocking them down. Snape took the brunt of the blow, and his thick robes managed to keep him from getting scratched. He kept Hermione mostly under him as the werewolf advanced.

Suddenly, a large, black dog attacked Lupin and stood between the four people and the werewolf. Snape didn't think he would ever be happy to see Sirius Black in his entire life, but right now, he was extremely happy to see the Animagus. He, Harry, Ron, and Hermione got to their feet, and he once again pushed them behind him, always keeping himself between them and the now fighting Lupin and Sirius.

The trio could hardly believe what was happening, that the the least liked professor in all of Hogwarts, the professor who seemed to openly despise them, was now shielding them from werewolf Lupin with his own body despite the great danger that doing so put him in. They were still stunned by how Snape's first instinct the second he realized that Lupin was transformed had been not to run or protect himself but to shield them as best he could. They were even more surprised as he continued to do his best to shield them as the two canines fought viciously.

Harry was probably even more shocked than his friends. Of all the students in Hogwarts, Snape hated him the most, yet here he was, protecting him with his own body, despite the great risk of being killed, or worse, bitten by Lupin. If the potions master's first instinct had been to protect them rather than himself then perhaps he wasn't so bad after-all.

End Note: Please review. I wrote this because I absolutely LOVED who in the movie Snape's first reaction when saw Lupin was to protect the kids.
