He heard the windows smash loudly behind him, but he didn't turn to look for fear of seeing his pursuer. Aido felt a small shard of glass fly by and cut his cheek although the sting did not register. He kept running. The only emotion he felt right now was fear, pure unadulterated fear. He needed to leave cross academy, hell he needed to leave the country. Kaname would eventually catch up with him so thinking fast was a priority.
The door of the moon dorm slammed open then shut again and Akatsuki stood in the entranceway with Senri, Ruka and Rima beside him. They gave the blue eyed blonde a puzzled look "What's going on Aido? We heard a smash." Ruka looked at him as he continued past them "Aido, what's happening on the east side of the grounds? Where's Ichijo?" her tone was indignant but curious.
Aido gave her no answer instead he fled up the stairs to his room, he ran along the long corridors with his back turned, he only heard the entrance doors slam open he didn't turn to see the tall blond noble armed with his samurai sword running towards him.
Ichijo grabbing his arm and twisting it behind his body abruptly stopped him. He pinned his body against against the wall, his cut cheek slamming onto the purple wallpaper and staining it slightly red. "I warned you Aido, what did you do!"
"Let me go! I need to leave, he'll kill me." Aido struggled against Ichijo but to no avail. Given Ichijo's physical and athletic prowess he was much stronger than he was.
"I told you Aido that you would bear the responsibility if you were caught, you cannot run, Lord Kaname-"
"She's his sister Ichijo!" Aido's frantic struggling to get away was creating friction marks on his skin.
Ichijo slackened his grip and confusion marred his features. "What...don't be ridiculous Yuki is human. Did you hit your head?"
"She's a vampire! Think about it Ichijo." Aido's voice was raised and panicked, his head twisted to try and meet Ichijo's gaze, when all of a sudden a cool voice came from their backs.
"Disregard anything Aido has said Takuma his mind has been addled." With this Lord Kuran put his hand on Aido's shoulder and using his pureblood power ordered him to his study. With no choice but to obey Aido walked just behind Kuran before opening the large oak door and going into the study before his Lord entered after and closed the door behind them.
"Sit." Aido sat as a dog would when ordered to by his master. His eyes were firmly on his shoes and the rich maroon carpet. It was the same colour as Yuki's eyes - no - it was the same colour as their eyes.
"Aido please be aware that the only reason you are not atoms in the air is because Yuki has expressly forbid that I kill you. She seems to have some sort of misplaced affection towards you that is really quite unseemly." He paced the room agitated for a few moments then sat in the large lounge chair before ordering Aido to look at him. "Please speak I am interested to hear your defense."
The fear was so evident in his eyes "Please, my Lord I did not know."
"Did not know that Yuki is mine?" Kaname was feigning ignorance.
"No my Lord I knew-" his eyes went to the carpet again.
"So you were aware that Yuki belonged to me. Look at me." Kuran was suddenly right at his face "What is it that you claim not to know Hanabusa?"
Kuran's eyes bored right through him and Aido shook where he sat "My Lord I did not know Yuki was a vampire or that she was your si…" he trailed off, his voice vanishing into a quiet nothingness.
"She is my sister Aido and by default she is mine. You in comparison are nothing. A vampire born to nobility, but lacking the proper character associated with your rank." The pureblood continued to stare straight at the blond, wondering what he would do with him. He could not kill him Yuki had forbid it. He could send him away, but Kaname didn't want him so far that he could not watch him. He paced the room again before stopping at the window and looking at the moonlight. There was a lingering silence while Kaname thought to himself. Aido had figured out the nature of their sibling relationship, but to do it so fast. He was intelligent yes, but surely he wasn't that smart.
"How did you figure out she was my sister? Did Yuki tell you?"
Aido bowed his head "No my Lord, Yuki-Lady Yuki told me nothing...your eyes have the same colour and hue and her blood tastes-" as soon as he'd said it he wished he hadn't. Several light bulbs burst and the only illumination in the room was a single candle on the desk. The casting of the long shadows, made Kaname Kuran's figure all the more imposing and the lack of light made his glowing red eyes stand out from the semi-darkness. Hanabusa's face paled, he felt a tightness in his chest and he found himself struggling to breathe. Strangling, choking noises came from his throat in an attempt to suck in air.
"Ah that's right you tasted my sister, a pureblood princess. You soiled the royal Kuran bloodline by awakening her with the bite of a filthy, arrogant, unworthy, pathetic excuse for a vampire." Kuran suddenly had him on the ground without touching him. Kuran merely stood there while Hanabusa writhed in agony on the carpet. His blood was boiling, literally. He could feel himself heating up and he wanted nothing more than to rip the skin from his body and run into an icy lake. He tried to use his power to cool his blood, but his vampiric power was nothing in comparison to that of a pureblood's.
Hanabusa had it figured out. As soon as he had seen the vampire eyes on Yuki everything fell into place like a jigsaw puzzle.
The night she came to the Aido household she was delivered by Kaien Cross who wished to keep her safe from predators on both sides of the human/vampire war, he did not inform the newly appointed Lord Kuran or the association of her living status, as to place her with either of them directly undermined the point of hiding her as a human. She grew up with nobles and received special treatment and an exemplary education from his father. Then Kaname found out she was alive and made sure he was always there, yet never did he reveal her identity to her. This was the piece of the jigsaw that was missing.
Why?
Why was this done? He was missing some information, which he needed to fully understand why he was currently being tortured on the floor of the moon dorm.
Another burst of heat went through his body; he wasn't sure how much more of this he could take. It was starting to take a toll on him, Aido started to feel his eyes roll shut as he went to black out from the pain. Then it just stopped suddenly and pure relief swept over him he tilted his head to the left toward the window, the moonlight streaming through it and slowly opened his eyes enough to see clearly. Sitting there in the frame of the open window was Yuki. She looked extremely different however.
She sat in her long white gown her hair unexplainably longer- mid thigh length actually- her skin paler than the moon and her expression serious and angry.
"Yuki I told you to stay in the infirmary" The elder Kuran looked to his sister with faux concern that masked the genuine fury lacing in his voice.
Yuki jumped down from the window in one motion and walked over next to where Aido was, her bare feet silently padding along the soft carpet. She gracefully sat down next to Aido then she gently lifted his head and placed it in her lap. "You are being cruel Kaname, you said you wouldn't hurt him" she started to stroke Hanabusa's hair.
"I said I wouldn't kill him Yuki, but he has broken vampire law and as such he must be punished" there was no room for negotiation.
"I understand that he has broken vampire law, but he had broken it unknowingly. Had Hanabusa known whom I was do you really think he would've bitten me. He is the first son of the Aido family. The family that has raised me, educated me and treated me well. No doubt out of their loyalty to you. Do you honestly believe that one of your most loyal subjects would knowingly seek to upset you given your power?" Kaname was silent. "I'll take that as a 'no' then shall I."
"Yuki, something must be done. Regardless of the crime, Aido has been insolent towards his Lord-"
"And loving towards his Lady." Yuki cut in "Or he would have been had you not placed as many obstacles in the way as you could. For example forcing him into a loveless engagement so that I could never truly be with him" She bent down and placed a kiss lightly on Aido's forehead. Yuki looked up at Kaname her eyes and voice venomous. "Jealousy is an ugly emotion brother, especially on a pureblood."
At this jibe Hanabusa's body was seemingly dragged by the air and flung out into the hallway as the study door slammed behind him. The two royal purebloods were now alone. Yuki stood up, her stance confident and ferocious, she wouldn't let harm come to Aido. Kaname stared her down in equal measure, his aura omitting a dark wave and a dangerous blackness.
It was Yuki who made the first move, faster than lighting she slapped her brother straight and hard across the face and before she could bring her now perfectly scar free leg round for a kick; Kaname caught it and flung her down. Kaname was staying on the defensive and Yuki was doing the attacking. She threw punches and kicks and slaps and scratches. Most were blocked expertly but the couple that broke through Kaname's defenses sounded like they hurt and left marks on Kaname Kuran's perfect skin.
Yuki was livid, Kaname had mollycoddled her like a child and kept the vampire she loved away from her. He had manipulated her feelings with the end goal that she would fall in love romantically with her own brother. Her well-aimed upper cut was blocked by Kaname's arm and he pushed her away again. All of her emotions had riled up to the surface and now she found she had the raw power necessary to take it out on the one responsible.
Hanabusa lay in hallway, all energy gone. There were dark shadows under his eyes despite the late night hour. His shirt was soaked in sweat and his clothes were a mess. He just lay looking up at the ceiling until an arm lifted him up and propped him up, back against the wall. It was Akatsuki. His usually stoic cousin was wincing at every bash, bang and crash that came from the study.
"What's going on in there?" he was visibly worried, his monotone even shifted a few tones up the way.
"Yuki-Lady Yuki and Lord Kaname are fighting." He found his voice was hoarse and scratchy with a horrible metallic rasp to it. It wasn't the usual sweet honey tones everyone was familiar with.
"You don't look so good Hanabusa, what happened?" Atatsuki's understatement made Hanabusa chuckle which only hurt his throat more. He reckoned he looked a mess, worse than he ever had.
At this point Takuma had joined and stood just a bit away while he listened to the noise, wincing in time with Akatsuki. It was just as just as Takuma was about to interrupt the fight that the portion of wall to the right of the door was obliterated.
Out walked Kaname Kuran with Yuki Kuran unceremoniously slung over his right shoulder seemingly unconscious. His usually immaculate appearance was ruffled and his aura was blacker than the night's sky. When Kaname spoke it was a statement then an order that left no room for contribution or argument.
"Yuki and I are going to be taking a weeks retreat to the Kuran mansion. Takuma I will leave you in charge of matters."
Takuma bowed deeply at the waist "Yes, Lord Kaname."
As he was walking away he turned his head to the left so that half his face was visible over his shoulder "If any vampire should have notions of following me…well looking like Aido will be the least of your worries."
Takuma bowed again with Akatsuki joining him. "Yes, Lord Kaname."
