Heck If I Know

Rating: G/K

Genre: Family/General

Summary: Fill for a prompt on LJ's comment_fic: "Supernatural, Castiel + any angel, The incident with the little grey fish."

Author's Note: My Head-Canon has always had Gabriel as the one that did this. :3 I mean, just the way Castiel says it hints towards Gabriel (or at least Balthazar).

Disclaimer: I don't own Supernatural. It belongs to Eric Kripke.

"Hey kid, what're you up to?"

He's one of the new ones: Too small to be anyone else. Gabriel observes the smaller angel as he crouches beside the pool. The water isn't thick, but it's murky and not something Gabriel would particularly want to touch.

For a moment, the kid doesn't respond. Oh great. Gabriel thinks. He's going to be one of the really talkative ones. You know, it's always the ones that keep their mouths shut that end up being the whackiest. he'll be fine today, and then tomorrow he'll be lopping the tops of trees off with his sword because they 'looked at him funny'-

"What's that fish, brother?"

Gabriel blinked at the younger angel's surprisingly solemn voice before leaning forward and peering over his shoulder. Wiggling in the mud of the edge of the pond was a tiny grey fish- Well, whether or not it was still technically a fish could be up for debate, as he could see tiny, tiny fins that looked suspiciously like flippers.

Gabriel had been blessed, upon creation, with the power of foresight. Michael, Lucifer and Raphael had it too, but Gabriel's rang the strongest. It was that sense of foresight that he was able to determine that this fish might as well have had a big Do Not Touch sign draped around its slimy neck.

The little angel wasn't touching it, though. Just staring. Just curious. Gabriel felt that he should be lucky: Lucifer would probably try to stomp on the thing just to see its eyes bug-out.

"Kid- Uh-" He had to search his memory, the memory that had all of his siblings' names logged into it. "...Castiel?" The little angel looked over his shoulder and nodded. "Right. Well, don't step on that fish, Castiel. Big plans for that fish."

Castiel blinked up at him. "Plans?"

"Yup. Father's plans."

"...What are they?"

Gabriel shrugged. "Heck if I know, kid. The old man works in mysterious ways."
