And here's another one-shot. I've been having some really bad personal problems lately, which is why I haven't updated any of my other stories, but I'm trying to get back on track.
"Pregnant?" Eric said again, as if he was having a hard time understanding the word. Marisol nodded.
"Pregnant." she repeated. She was standing in Horatio's office together with her brother and her boyfriend, who also happened to be her brother's boss, looking down on her feet.
"Well, that's…" Eric looked like he wasn't sure what it was. "Great?" he said carefully, as if he was trying to se if the word was fitting the context. Apparently he figured it did, since he started smiling and squeezed his sisters arm. "That's great. You guys are having a baby, that's amazing." But his smile fell quickly when he looked from his boss to his sister and noticed that none of them were smiling back. "What, what's wrong?"
"You see Eric, during the whole time Marisol and I have been together we've never had the opportunity to, sort to say, conceive a child together. So the child isn't mine." Horatio responded.
"I'm sorry Horatio. It was before you and me. Before we'd even met." A single tear was running down her cheek.
"There's no need to apologize, I understand." he smiled reassuringly at her and she gave him a soft smile back.
She couldn't imagine a better man than him. The only one she could think of to even being close was… Well, someone who was no longer speaking to her. Not since he found out that she'd lied about her identity and her family.
"Then whose is it?" Eric interrupted her thoughts.
"I can't tell you." She looked down on her feet again.
"Why not?"
"Because you'll probably kill him."
"Who is he?"
"You have to promise me you won't hurt him." The tears started coming back again, but she wasn't sure why.
"Who is he?"
"You have to promise."
"Why? Is it someone I know?"
"Yes."
"Who?"
"He didn't know I was your sister, I swear. He ended it when he found out."
"Who. Is. It?" Eric had grabbed a hold of her arm and was squeezing it very hard, but he didn't seem to notice.
"It's not his fault, so you have to promise you won't…"
"Tell me!"
"H, I've got the rapport and…What's going on in here?" Ryan said surprised when he saw Eric holding the arm to the tearful Marisol. He stared at her with a worried eyes and she suddenly felt her heart rate go up since this was the first time he'd looked at her since he found out about her lies.
"Nothing." Eric said without taking his eyes of Marisol.
"It doesn't look like nothing. What's going on H?" They all looked over at Horatio, who seemed calm at first sight, but at a closer look his hands gave him away; they were shaking like crazy. He was just as angry and curious about the father as Eric, which was why he hadn't interfered when he'd grabbed her arm.
"Just some family problems. You should wait outside."
"Marisol?" he asked and looked into her eyes. He was worried about her, genuinely worried. And that made her happy, because it meant that he maybe didn't hate her after all. At least not deep inside.
"This is none of your business Wolfe!" Eric said angrily.
"Yes it is." Marisol said. They all gave her confused looks.
"What is?" Ryan asked.
"I'm pregnant." she looked him straight in the eyes, awaiting the response for what she was saying next. "It's yours."
A big crash interrupted the regular workday at the MDPD when Ryan Wolfe literally flew out though the window of Horatio Caine's office.
I've heard that cancer treatment makes you infertile, but here in the Fan Fiction world everything is possible. Even if you've got cancer. Isn't it a great world? :P
