Kate's heart felt like it was going to burst out of her chest it was beating that fast. She was standing at the launch for the latest Nikki Heat novel in front of a stack of the books. She had all ready read the book but not the dedication Rick had kept that all to himself. No matter what she tried even withholding sex didn't work. Not that withholding sex from him lasted long anyway the two times that she had tried it only lasted for two days before she caved. The man just had ways of getting to her in that department.

All he would tell her was that this dedication was special and that she would have to wait. So here she was trying to work up the courage to pick up Federal Heat. Rick finally got her to give in about that name.

She took a deep breath a picked up the book and opened it. She quickly flicked past the tittle page and the punishing stuff and landed on the dedication page and what she saw took her breath away.

To Kate

The last six years have been the best of my life being your partner especially this last year and half . You have no idea how happy you made me when you finally agreed to go out with me. You mean more to me than any other woman has before you. And I love you so much. And there is nothing more that I want than to be your partner in everything for the rest of my life so Katherine Beckett would you make me the happiest man in the world and marry me ?

Kate felt her heart stop when read the words marry me. And she turned to find Rick. When she saw him behind her on one knee holding a small blue box that had a diamond ring nestled inside.

"So Kate will you marry me?" Rick asked as his blue puppy dog eyes shone and a big smile the on that he saved just for her and no one else played on his lips.

Kate looked into his eyes and all she could see was love than he felt for her and she knew that her own eyes would be showing the same thing.

Rick couldn't breathe and his heart was beating so fast that it had stopped. All he could think was how much he loved the woman in front of him and how all he wanted was to spend the rest of his life with her, have kids with her, have her back on the job until she retired and off the job for the rest of their lives and there is nothing he wouldn't give for her to let him be her always for the rest of his life, god he hoped she'd say Yes.

"YES, YES, Rick I'll marry you"

When those words left Kate's lips he felt his heart start to beat again.

"Yeah. God I love you so much Kate" Rick told her as he got off the floor and took the ring out of its box and slowly slid it on to Kate's finger.

"It's beautiful Rick, I love you so much" Kate told him as she pulled him in for a deep kiss.

But this kiss was different from all the other ones that they had shared it was so much better, maybe because it was their first kiss out in public like that or maybe it was the fact that they had just got engaged she didn't really know why. But she really couldn't bring herself to care she had the man that she loved and they were going to spend the rest of their lives together and that's all that mattered to her right now.
