"Why She Lied"
by: JustWriter
She was startled when Henry asked about his father, if she could even use that word. The other end of her superpower was being able to skillfully lie when she needed to. Now was the time, so she spun a tale about a fireman to placate him. The thing was, she really did wish that that was how it had happened. Henry's question brought painful memories to the fore that were difficult to conceal. The pain and the fright that she'd had that fateful night drove her to learn to defend herself better so that it would never happen to her again. She lied to protect him. After all, no child would ever want to hear that they were the product of rape; right?
