It was a quiet summer night, a warm summer night. The two friends rode home on the train together. Where they had been was not important. What mattered most, especially to him, was that they were together. Now.

She had fallen asleep quite some time ago. The ride was long but smooth, and the car they were in was nearly empty. It was late, so there was no reason for anyone to be traveling except for two adventurous kids.

July meant freedom, after all. They were young and wild and free and they could go as far as their wallets would take them. Although it was dark outside, the light of the lamps on the tracks illuminated the passing scenery. Everything was slightly orange and warm, inviting him to think and remember and feel at home in such a public place. He was comfortable, he was happy.

Even the clothing he wore made him feel free. His plain white t-shirt was loose against his skin, and his shorts had let the air blow around his tanned legs. When the duo had been outside and the wind had blown past them, he felt like he could be picked up and taken anywhere. Sora's smile affirmed the happiness he felt. Her own loose shirt blew like a flag in the wind, and her bare legs had danced joyfully through the fields they explored.

The boy let out a peaceful sigh and began to feel his own eyes droop from the excitement of the day. However, he had to fight off the tiredness. Their stop was still a ways away, but he didn't want to miss it. For as adventurous as he was, he couldn't wait to sleep in his bed. The comfort and the warmth of it called to him, and the thought of the cool summer air blowing in through his open window made him smile.

He was smiling. He caught himself. But did it matter? The only person he cared about was sleeping right next to him. She was peaceful and it put him at ease. It made him happy. He was content when she was.

But then suddenly, a bump in the track, a quick jolt of the train car, and the girl's head shifted from where it leaned against the window and nuzzled itself into Taichi's shoulder. He blushed and kept still, unsure of whether she would wake or not.

Would she be unhappy finding herself that way when she woke? He should wake her now. But no, he didn't want to make her unhappy. He bit his lip and held his breath. She was resting and she was content, hopefully dreaming about they day they'd spent together. He didn't want to ruin that.

He didn't want to ruin it for either of them. He blushed and kept perfectly still, allowing the girl to move how she wanted to. However, instead of unconsciously moving away, she snuggled her entire body into him, letting the skin of her legs gently graze against the skin of his. Her hand found a place to rest on his arm and she sighed and smiled. She hadn't even noticed it. Her breathing continued softly and evenly against him.

A blush, a small grin, and suddenly his bed didn't seem so comfortable anymore. Their stop seemed closer than it had before- too close. He didn't want to return home. All at once, everything was right.

If only the stars wouldn't disappear, if the sun wouldn't come up, if July would never turn to August, then to September, and if school would never have to start again. They could go on adventures everyday, and they could be happy.

But. This happiness was different. It was such a simple happiness that could rarely be felt. No adventure would ever be able to create the same emotion in him again because he had experienced this. His chest was full and his heart was high. The boy looked down at the peaceful girl. A smile, a blush, and he still tried to remain perfectly still. He wouldn't wake her until the last possible moment. This was the biggest adventure, and maybe she'd still be happy when she woke.
