My Song

Chapter 3 "Kurusu Kanako"

Kanako never really knew what happened during the festival until Kirino told her afterwards.

After the gathering at the café, she received a mail message from Kirino, which told her to come to festival and that Ayase and Kyosuke would be there as well. However, she felt that something was out of place when Ayase and Kyosuke saw them with a surprised expression on their face.

"What is the deal with them?" That was Kanako's first thought, but when she saw that Kirino was smiling victoriously, she figured it out.

"Well, I might as well make the best out of it." And so Kanako did.

"Kyosuke, this way." Kanako was now taking her turn of having fun with Kyosuke after Kirino had hers and she was not going to let it go to waste.

"Hold on, Kanako." So instead of hearing his complaint, she only sped up.

And moments later, they arrived at the shooting game booth. But for Kanako, that was only the start.

"That was fun." Kanako commented as a satisfied smile appeared on her face.

But then she could tell that it was not the same for Kyosuke, despite the fact that he remained polite and courteous. Still, she was not just going to give up on winning his heart over.

"Kyosu…ke?" However, before she could ask anything more out of him, she realized he was not there anymore. And when she found him again, he was moving towards a commotion that was taking place.

"Wait, Kyosuke!" But obviously Kyosuke did not hear it as his figure disappeared into the crowd; therefore, Kanako immediately followed after him as well, trying not to lose him.

"He is just the guy that can't keep out of trouble." Kanako thought.

But it was also because of this that allowed Kyosuke to always come to her aide. So she smiled as she tried her best to keep up with him.

By the time Kanako reached the center of commotion, everything seemed to be already over, or at least it seemed. But seeing that Kyosuke was nowhere in sight, Kanako decided continue to look for him.

"Where did he go?" Kanako was getting worried as time went by as she was afraid of the fact that he had gotten himself into trouble again for others' sake.

"Please be safe." She prayed as she looked around and just as she was about to give up, she saw him running passed her.

"Ah! Kyosue!" She called his name but it was obvious that he did not hear her again as he ran passed her, but what shocked her more was the fact that he was holding onto Ayase's hand as he ran passed her.

"What the?!" Kanako was in shock, but after seeing the group chasing after them, she immediately understood that they were in deep trouble. Seeing all this, she felt relieved to the fact it was not some romantic getaway.

So without saying anything, she took out her cell phone and called Kirino.

"Moshi, moshi Kirino?" (moshi, moshi is kind of like saying hello when you start a phone conversation in Japan)

And when she was done, she knew that Kirino would come up with something; after all, she was his sister.

Kanako was slightly disappointed by the fact that Kyosuke was not there to watch the fireworks with her, but she was glad that he was safe.

"Kanako, thank you." Ayase thanked her, and based on the fact that Kirino was the only person that knew about her role, she figured Ayase apparently learned it from Kirino.

"No need to thank me." Kanako said brightly. "After all, we are friends."

Hearing that Ayase smiled, but it was not one of joy but more with sadness. However, the sadness quickly disappeared before anyone could say anything.

And seeing her expressions, Kanako gave thought to the words she said.

"Friends…" She truly believed that and she knew that Ayase and Kirino also thought the same of her. She sincerely wished that nothing would affect their friendship.

Or at least, so she hoped…

Author's Note:

I know it has been a very long time since I last updated, I sincerely apologize for that. And yes, I have finished the entire series, which I felt a little unimpressed with how fast everything ended.

Anyway, so from a story perspective, this is where the girls kind of now realize that they are competing for something that only one can get. And definitely it is going to get interesting from now on.

Kanako is now kind of sitting in an interesting place. As shown in the story, she definitely has feelings towards Kyosuke. However, being the good person she is deep down, she really is now going to face the problem of her feelings or friendship, which is typical for any Japanese romance comedy story. Of course, even as the story diverges into the main route, you still see her around.

Anyway, I hope to see you again. And I will try to finish this story and hopefully next chapter is not as long as this.
