There were seven of them. Seven prophecy kids. Seven who were destined to save the world (or something like that). Seven heroes.

And himself, Leo.

But seven was an odd number, and that meant someone had to be the odd man out.

There was Percy and Annabeth. Or, Percabeth, as the Aphrodite's had taken to calling them. Best friends since they were twelve. They'd gone on multiple quests together. They'd saved the freaking world together. They were connected. Nothing odd there.

Then there were the two Romans, Frank and Hazel. They too were a couple, though for a few odd (odd seems to be the deciding factor, doesn't it) minutes, Leo thought he had a chance with the girl. Then he learned he just looked like her dead boyfriend-who he actually turned out to be related to-and she liked Frank. So yup, there were two more connected demigods.

And then there were his two friends, Jason and Piper. They weren't exactly together…yet. But it was only a matter of time, because even before, when it was just the three of them, Leo was the third wheel.

All he could do was build stuff (any Hephaestus kid can, making him even less special) and commit arson. Just what one would want as a partner, especially when a line in the "Great" prophecy said: 'The world will end in storm or fire'. How absolutely perfect.

And it wasn't even like he had a chance with any girl outside the seven, because Khione was cold, and Thalia's a hunter, and they (and everyone else) are out of his league anyway.

And you know what? He doesn't even have to have a girlfriend. Just something to make him feel a bit more…included, while Percabeth and Jasper and Frazel (or was it Hank?) were busy making out.

But unfortunantly, seven was an odd number. There can only be three pairs in seven, with the odd person sticking out like a sore thumb.

Two…four…six…Seven.

And so he hid behind humor, because seven was an odd number, and he was the odd man out.

Just some inner turmoil-y Leo-ness.
