- Prologue -

TIME: 12:55 AM

The sky was a deep black and there were no stars, a full blood red moon rested high in the black expanse. It illuminated everything below it ominously, giving the world a red atmosphere. The only sound was of leaves being crunched beneath the small, bare pale feet of a girl. The girl's appearance was disheveled, her long waist length pink hair was wild and tangled, she wore what may have been an elegant dress at one point but now it lay limp and torn, dead leaves catching onto the wispy threads. She didn't seem to even touch the ground for more than half a second, if even that. All that could be seen by the human eye was a quick flash and a fleeing breeze. Not too far behind was a man running after her, he was blonde and held piercing red eyes. He yelled out to her.

"Princess, get back here! Stop!" She paid him no attention, the fear written on her face and sped up, the pair were running through clustered, gnarled, and dead trees. The girl broke through the heavily dense forest but she didn't stop. Ahead of her was a vast bit of land, perhaps an estate at a period of time where she saw a large crumbling fountain. The sculpture was that of a cherub leaning over ready to spit water from its puckered lips but the stone was chipping away and deteriorating while leaves and grime coated the pool below. It obviously hadn't been used in what seemed as if years. In fact the whole area looked untouched, there was an iron wrought bench and marble stools lying amiss. Next to all of this was a large space of ruins, the smell of ashes and death stained the air.

As she ran through the place she tried to speed up even quicker and locked her jaw. 'Just a little more! Just a little more!' Her mind yelled out to her, she knew to get away she had to shake the man chasing after her somehow. The only thing that was coming up in front of her was a large valley, below it ran a fast streaming river. The blonde man behind her was gaining speed, believing he could corner her. She knew she couldn't let that happen at any cost. So, she did what any other normal person would do...she leaped off the cliff.

The wind whipped at her furiously as she fell, her back was to the river and she could see the blonde who had finally made it to the cliff point. He grit his teeth and bit back a curse watching as she fell. As one would think it didn't take long for her body to hit the water and she could feel her back being ripped and cut by a few of the many scattered rocks. There was a searing pain all over her body, however she ignored it as best as she could and submerged herself beneath the water, swimming as fast as she could until her sky changed from black...to blue.

_Tokyo

TIME: 1:00 AM

Tortured screams filled the streets of Tokyo as yellow creatures ran about devouring everything and everyone they could, mowing people down left and right. Civilians were being rushed into buildings that had steel covers to block out the monsters but they could only hold so many until they had to shut the door. A terrified woman ran carying a tiny 5 year old little girl in her arms looking for a place to hide. "Please! Please! No! You have to let us in!" She frantically yelled as she spotted a man who had began to shut the steel door. His eyes were filled with pity as she tried to run to him, she was too far. Much to far for him to risk it. He shook, his eyes wide as he knew that he had to make a decision.

"I-I'm so sorry! I'm so sorry!" He yelled out to her, upon hearing that the woman screamed hysterically in realization that he wasn't going to wait. Still she ran on at him.

"No! No! Please! At least take my child!" Said child was clinging to her mother for dear life and trembling uncontrollably, her mother in the turmoil had forgotten to keep her daughter's head down so the kid watched as all the creatures tore into the people around her. Her large doe like eyes shook yet she couldn't look away. The man clenched his eyes shut and finished closing the cover, sealing his fate..as well as hers.

The woman cried out in shock, she kept running onwards away from the monsters. In the chaos she didn't notice the stray purse lying in her way and she tripped, flying forwards. Her child flew from her arms and hit the pavement as her mother hit the ground just a few feet away from her. She struggled to get up and reached out for her daughter when she saw that one of those monsters had taken notice of them or more importantly, the tiny 5 year old. "No! Yumi!"

The mother tried to scramble to her feet only to be stopped by a sharp pain in her right ankle, it was severely sprained from the fall. Never the less she tried to crawl her way to her child. Yumi had gotten the wind knocked from her small little body when she hit the ground and was struggling to breath. It was only when the creature stood above her did she find the breath to scream. However before the thing could so much as touch Yumi a shot resonated through all of the noise and screaming. A bullet had shot the thing square in the head, it took but a second for steam to rise from the wound and for the creature to disintegrate into nothing but dust.

The shooter, a man bent down and picked Yumi up, her eyes were clenched shut and she shook. He had warm green eyes and a gentle smile. Leaning down he softly spoke in the girl's ear. "Hey, its okay. You can open your eyes now."

Off to the side a small girl with brown pigtails helped the mother to her feet. "Yumi!" She quickly limped over to the pair in tears. The man looked up in surprise but it soon changed to relief. He handed Yumi to her mother who held her close to her chest tightly. "Thank you, thank you so much! Please, whats your name?"

He smiled brightly at the woman. "Souma, Souma Kukai. No need to thank me either miss!"

"Oh, no! I must!" The girl with brown pigtails stood next to Kukai with a happy grin.

"Honestly! Its what the Guardians are for!" At the mention of this the woman finally noticed there were others killing the monsters now. A few teens who had been scattered out among the city now stood watching the monsters disintegrate. She had heard of this group but had always thought it to be a rumor, this was the first time the outbreak had been that bad perhaps thats why their there now. Either way she was thankful.

_On The Out Skirts Of Tokyo

The female had managed to drag herself from the river, still sopping wet, her hair plastered to her forehead. She brushed her bangs back still gazing out in front of her with a small grin on her lips. The wounds that she had received from her previous fall hardly bothered her anymore for they were no longer bleeding. She actually seemed rather excited now.

"Ah, finally…I'm here..Tokyo. Well, lets get started! Right, Ran?"

"Yes, Amu-chan!"
