There was always a twist. A romantic dinner out turned into a business dinner in which she barely got to speak to her fiancé. A trip out involved a least twotrips to his business to see what was happening or what wasn't happening. It was getting on her nerves. Yes, she was well aware of how dedicated he was to his company but was it always necessary? No. At least in her mind.
In his mind, she knew that his business was his life. He probably would never be able to life a content and happy life without the busyness that came with being the CEO of an entire brand and various devisions of said brand.
She could live with that. Otherwise, Haruhi would have never said yes when he proposed to her. She was busy just the same as he was, working on cases and learning all about the various different legal ropes and understanding how everything meshed together during a real live case. However, the difference between the two was that she knew exactly when it was time to separate work from life.
So, she found it extremely upsetting when they were going over invitations and he was including his business partners.
No. Not upsetting. Infuriating.
"No."
Kyouya blinked in surprise, his pen halfway through writing a name down. "Do you not like him?"
"It's not that," Haruhi kept her gaze unwavering, a slight furrow in her brow to let him know she was not pleased with him in the slightest. "We agreed this would be a family and friends only wedding. I'm only inviting people from work who I know and would do things with outside of a work setting. That man," she gestured to his paper, "has never spoken to you outside of a work setting. He is not invited."
"Haruhi," he adjusted his glasses and leaned back, "Many of my business partners would be offended if they are not invited to this wedding. They need to feel important enough to come to our wedding."
"Our wedding," she rose her voice slightly before he could go on, "Is not a business venture. Our marriage is not a business venture."
"I'm not saying it is, Haruhi. I'm saying that it is important to me to invite these people. So-"
"Do not say so you can continue to have a good business relationship with them," Haruhi interrupted, the irritation and anger was becoming more and more apparent, "I am not inviting my clients because I think that will improve my relationship with them, I am not inviting my boss because I think it would get me a higher position. You are treating this marriage as if it is just a chess piece that will help further you in the game!"
"That's not true," Kyouya insisted placing the pen down and leaning forwards, he reached for her hand but she moved it out of the way. "My business is important to me…"
"Am I not?" she lowered her voice and he looked surprised.
"Does it upset you that much?" he inquired, leaning back.
"It offends me."
He picked up his pen and crossed out all his business partners except for a few, "Then I'll only invite the ones I talk to frequently and have spoken to them outside of a business setting, like you suggested."
Haruhi knew that he was lying; he was shrinking the list, but still inviting a few. She knew that he was doing it to please her, but old habits were hard to break. He loved his business, and couldn't separate himself from it very well. She was marrying him, and she knew that was to be expected.
She smiled at him. "Thank you for trying."
He looked up at her and smiled back, "For you, anything."
