Probably apparent, but I'll specify that this is set in the context of Brave New World...the Archie comic issue, not the Huxley novel. 0_0
Deception
"I'm sure you haven't forgotten your own parents, Sonic."
"Hello dear! It's been way too long."
"We've missed you so very much, son."
The words echoed in Sonic's mind as surely as the sunset's breeze flowed over him. Echoed along with his own outburst towards Chuck. Never find the fact that his parents were alive (if robotization truly counted as "living".) Never mind the fact that they and all the other robians had somehow regained their free will. No...all that mattered to the fastest thing alive was that Chuck had lied to him. Lied to him for as long as he could after regaining his own free will and, if his suspicions were correct, had lied to him even before Robotnik took over.
That liar...no better than Robotnik...lying to family...his own flesh and blood...not that the bastard has flesh and blood anymore...
It was true...Sonic knew that much, that his parents were alive after all these years. And with that truth came more questions-how many others lies had Chuck told him all these years? Obviously he was naive enough to trust a robian of all people (robians...not robots or mobians...no better than Robotnik...traitors...), but he wasn't naive enough to not wonder about other things. Heck, for all he knew, Chuck was his real father (take that Bunnie...watch your soaps apply to the real world).
Sonic sighed, frustrated with himself, even letting himself remain in place as he heard the trademark sound of Miles's Tails (Miles...not "Tails..." let's use the truth in names, eh?). Once, everything had seemed so clear. Heck, even in the chaos of him being framed for Sally's death and the threat of the Ultimate Annihilator, his ultimate goal of taking down Robotnik remained constant. Now though, he was beginning to understand Sally's words, that Robotropolis just wasn't home anymore. Why dwell in the past? Why not just remain in Knothole? Why live in close proximity to robians who were just a bunch of liars at best and traitors at worst?
"Um, Sonic? You okay?"
"Piss off Tails."
"Charming...but no. Not now."
Sonic continued looking over the city, so many of its factories still hurling crud into the sky, fated to lead to acid rain. Where it rains, it pours indeed, Sonic reflected. One chaotic world to another.
"Sonic...I'm your friend. Talk to me."
Friend...Sonic didn't even know the meaning of the word anymore.
But as he began his tirade, he was still willing to give it a shot.
