Terry Lake smiled as she glanced down at the objects in her right hand then at her partner seated next to her.
"You first."Don suggested as he returned her smile."It is Christmas Eve after all."
They'd been consulting on a case in Chicago for two days previous. They'd thought they'd beat the storm out. However Mother Nature had other ideas. Fierce winds, sleet and snow had pelted the airport for hours. Terry and Don had agreed to swap holiday gifts anyway stuck or not. Even if they were only things they could obtain in an airport gift shop.
"They're perfect, thank you."Terry acknowledged as she took the Chicago skyline pewter keychain and favorite candy bar out of the bag.
Don kissed her. "You're welcome. Just hate that we're stuck here."
"Could be worse."Terry replied. "It's warm in here, we have food. Open yours."
Eppes nodded and opened the small plastic bag. Inside was a mystery novel, deck of cards and a bag of potato chips.
"Figured we could guess the end of the book or play cards if we get bored."Terry explained as she watched her partner examine the gifts.
"Good plan. Thanks."Don replied as he set the gifts aside and looped an arm around Terry's shoulders drawing her close. "You know you didn't have to get me anything."
Terry snuggled against Don resting her head against his chest. "Of course I did. Everybody has to have a gift on the holidays."
Don wrapped his arms around Terry as they watched the snow fall. "I just meant you're the best gift I could've gotten. I love you."
Terry smiled and turned around kissing Don. "Love you too."
As Terry looked back at the snow she realized this might not be as bad of a holiday as it could've been.
