Chapter IV: The Silent and Twilight Realms

The tall Gerudo man, Ganondorf, inwardly cursed himself for his lack of information gathered about the girl he was looking for. Since his birth, he was constantly bestowed dreams of a blonde woman, radiating the strong aura of the goddess. As he grew older, memories flooded back into his mind- memory of his former lives. He was born of shadows and dirt, as his soul was released from the Silent Realm.

The Silent Realm...his prison and sanctuary to the Seven Sages who keep watch over the seal placed on his soul. This realm is an alternate and divine dimension where time stood still for all eternity. Every time his evil soul escaped from slumber of death, he would be born the Evil Lord with an aspiration to control the lands of Hyrule. However, every time he would have victory in his hands, a boy dressed in green, chosen hero of the goddesses, would challenge and defeat him, taking back Hyrule to peacefully prosper.

Ganondorf knew that time repeats itself over and over again. He would try to take control of a kingdom, and that young lad thwarted his plans. Still, Ganondorf felt in his heart that things were going to be different. He would find the princess, take her powers, and destroy the hero once and for all.

Still there were a few things that irked the Evil Lord. This time around, he could only use his senses to find the girl. Hyrule wasn't as easy to escapade around like it had once been. Second, he had to keep his identity on the down low, so he rarely used his powers to forge armies of darkness; it would draw too much attention to him. Third, he felt there was something in his memories that he had not regained. Simply put, he assumed that there was some major aspect of his life he does not remember.

Ganondorf led himself to the darkest part of the underground subway station. With a wave of his hand, a portal opened in mid-air, allowing him to pass through to a weak and secluded alternate realm, parallel to Hyrule, the Twilight Realm. He made his home here, where the creatures of darkness allowed him to practice his dark magic, so long as he does not harm any of the inhabitants, the Twili.

He lived in a mansion, portraying his life in high class society. He sat upon a throne he forged for himself and summoned a Stalfos, a skeleton creature without flesh.

"Where is the Princess?" he demanded. The Stalfos was baffled by the question.

"My Lord, our minions have tracked her down in the apartment complex you went to visit today. We are almost positive that you could have taken her," explained the bone-chilling minion. Ganondorf glared at him.

"She was not there. I found other women, but none had the aura. Though...her aura did indeed linger there."

"Lord Ganondorf, we believe that she has a busy work and college schedule that she occupies her days with. She supposedly works in a law firm and attends a nearby university to her apartment. However, we creatures are doubtful to enter the home of the Princess."

This outraged the Gerudo man.

"She is but a mere woman, not even aware of her magical capabilities yet! Why would you, creatures of darkness, be afraid to convict her?" he questioned harshly. The bones of the Stalfos began to rattle with fear.

"My liege, it is not the Princess we fear. We have come to also detect that the Hero of Legend resides and protects her!"

Ganondorf's golden eyes widened.

"What…did you say?"

The Stalfos tried his hardest to submit an answer.

"The Hero of Legend protects her…"

Out of anger, the lord threw a fireball at the soldier, instantly destroying the loyal minion into ashes. He couldn't believe it. The two had already found each other. What were the odds? It's as if the goddesses had planned this, hoping to again ruin his plans.

Then again…this could work out for him. If the two are near each other, then their auras will combine, making it easier to know when they were together. It would be killing two birds with one stone.

The only downfall is that their powers will be much stronger, because their two markings are near one another. The king smirked and leaned back into his throne.

"Twinrova."

Out of the shadows, two very old and decrepit witches mischievously flew to his side on their brooms.

"Tee hee, yes, our Lord?" giggled the old hags.

"Twinrova, master sorceresses who raised me so, I would so kindly plea of you. Keep an eye on the girl and her pathetic hero."

"Link tried to cut off his Triforce mark? So that means we are that much closer to him reawakening his true potential," explained Impa as she heard Saria's story. Saria crossed her arms and frowned.

"I fear that he is not really interested in becoming the Hero, more like he's just trying to find a cure for his transformations," replied the green haired girl. The two females stood in an alternate realm, shrouded in darkness, with compelling light beams shining down over seven pedestals. They were joined by four others: a Goron, a Zora, a Gerudo, and another Hylian.

"The nerve of that man; he does not know what great gift the goddesses have bestowed upon him," huffed the dark skinned woman.

"Relax Nabooru, he does not understand yet, that is all. He needs someone to explain the situation to him further," said the oldest and wisest of the beings, the Hylian.

"Indeed, Rauru has a point. His transformations are painful for him to endure. To anyone it would seem as if they were suffering or possessed," agreed the young, scaly skinned Zora. The Goron proudly beat his chest, which was made out of rock.

"Perhaps I should be the one to explain the situation to the descendant of my dear brother," he suggested. Rauru shook his head.

"No, we wait. We need t their destinies to work out their own without us getting involved. If we don't let it play out its own course, Link might never realize how important he is. He'll just leave fighting the Evil Lord to us if he doesn't see it our way. Besides, we can't step outside of the Silent Realm unless we it'd be direly necessary. We need to remain here since the flow of time doesn't exist in this realm. We need to stay immortal. If we step out into the world of Hyrule, then time will speed up on us, and we could possibly die. For each hour we spend out there, we are putting our lives in danger. Saria is the only one that can leave since Kokiri have the longest lifespan, logistically retaining their youth. Impa made a doppelganger of herself so that she can rotate between her and fake self, and the only sage chosen by the goddesses to be reincarnated over and over. Her soul can be maintained here, but her body can die and be reborn every century," he explained. The female Zora crossed her arms and huffed.

"So what you're saying is that You, Darunia, Nabooru, and I are stuck here unless we are called into battle? That's so lame," she complained. Rauru shook his head.

"Do not worry Ruto, we will be out in Hyrule soon. I feel as though Ganondorf is one step closer to confronting Link and Zelda, and when he does…"

"We'll be there to kick his ass!" cheered on Nabooru as she pumped her fist in the air. All of them gave her their attention. "I still hold a grudge on that man, turning my people against me, leading them against the Hyrulian Royal Family, and controlling my mind. Makes me sick to my stomach. We Gerudo women may be thieves and masters of the blade, but we are proud and peaceful," she explained.

"Wish I could say the same for my people," mumbled the Sheikah. All eyes turned to Impa. "We were always bound to the Royal family, inheriting the job of protecting them, and feeling shamed if one failed at it," she mumbled under her breath. Saria frowned, she pitied Impa.

"Impa…what's wrong?"

Impa bit her lip before replying.

"I spoke with Ghirahim today. He said that I used Zelda's hopes and dreams to lure her in. The truth is, he's right. We all know it. I feel as though sometimes we are the ones who put her in danger. Unlike her previous incarnations, this Zelda is not bound by royalty nor has any idea of Hyrule's upcoming despair. She is but a woman." Impa felt the pain in her heart grow. Saria walked over and put a hand on her arm lovingly.

"Impa, do not believe that man. He's trying to weaken our spirits. It's true, we have been watching over her and used her dreams of aiding justice for our own cause, but we do it because we want to protect her. It is a great cause. We will come out victorious. I believe it, and you should too," she explained with every ounce of sympathy.

"Yes, Lady Impa. We already have an upper hand. Zelda and Link have already found each other, and their feelings for each other have sky rocketed. If anything were to happen to Zelda, Link wouldn't need any explanation; he would simply go out and fight until Zelda is back in his arms!" cheered Rauru. All five faces lit up with enthusiasm. "We are the Seven Sages, chosen by the Goddesses to aid the holders of the Triforce. We will not let them down!"

Link stumbled into his job site with his eyes very dreary. He was having a bad day. So much happened within the morning and Link had a hard time getting over all of it. Zelda's voice from his dreams still flooded his mind, as well as the explanation Saria had given him about the marking on his hand.

'It is a gift from the goddesses.'

Pipit, one of Link's coworkers, put his hands to his hips and smiled.

"Yo Link!"

Link didn't reply. He just went over to his locker and grabbed out work out gloves, changing from the casual gloves he already wore. Again Pipit shouted.

"Link! Earth to Link? Heeeeeellooooo?" Pipit waved a hand over Link's face to get his attention, which barely managed to snap Link out of his daze.

"Huh? Oh. Hey Pipit," he finally replied. Pipit snorted.

"You're almost an hour late. Your class is getting impatient and two of your students already left, thinking you weren't going to show. After half an hour of waiting, I had to go substitute your class for a bit. The boss-man said he heard you had come in, so I came to get you. Hurry up!"

It sounded like mindless rambling to Link. He closed his locker and rushed towards the courtyard.

Link was a teacher at an archery school. It was only his fourth month teaching there. Archery was always a love of his, and he had a strange but natural ability to shoot arrows with master skill. It came as instinct to him.

The first time he ever picked up a bow, he had no idea how to use it, but amongst touching it, a strange familiar feeling came to him. He aimed the tip of the arrow at a target and shot, hitting it in the very middle. It astounded everyone, including his teacher. His teacher asked if he used to be trained in this skill or if he practiced at home, but Link claimed that it was the first time he's ever even seen a bow, let alone shot one. After that moment, Link knew that this is what he wanted to do for the rest of his life. Train his self at it, and teach it to others.

Upon entering the courtyard, the faces of all the students lit up. Link apologized to the students and made his way to the center of the field. The courtyard contained a grassy field with ten targets line up on one side. On the opposite side, there were white lines drawn into the grass to designate where the archers were supposed to stand and practice. Around the court were bleachers, so if there was ever a tourney, people could come and watch. Link took note of the students who attended that day, twelve men and eight women, most around his age. One could take archery classes if one wanted, as long as they enrolled themselves at the right time period. Amongst the class, there was one student in particular who always tried to get his attention. This student was a girl named Marin, and she made it obvious to the others that she developed the biggest crush on Link. She doted herself on becoming teacher's pet, being the most skilled archer in her class.

"Alright class, today we are going to start something a little more advance, slow moving targets."

Halfway through the class Link noticed something odd. A spectator entered the field and sat on one of the far away bleachers. A man with beautiful light skin and long white bangs.

'That's weird, today is not a tournament day or anything. What is he doing here?'

The man crossed his legs and smiled, giving Link all of his attention. Link figured it was best to ignore him and continue focusing on his class. One of the students shot and missed the target that he was assigned. Link patted the boy on the back.

"It's okay; you'll get it next time. Next up, Marin!"

Marin blushed and jumped in delight.

"I'll get it, no problem!" She walked over to the white line and raised her bow, carefully drawing back the string. Upon releasing the arrow, she barely managed to get the arrow at the tip of the target as it spun slowly in a circle. She danced and spun around with glee, before pointing at it. "I got it! Did you see that, Link? Didja? Didja?"

No shit, Sherlock.

Link smiled and chuckled a little under his breath.

"Way to go Marin! Next up, Anji!"

As class resumed, the man watching from the bleachers never left. His attention occasionally went off to the students arching, but most of it was centered on Link. It gave Link the creeps.

When class was over, the students left to their lockers while Link went off to take the targets of the motor they were on and replaced them with new ones. Marin walked over to him and smiled.

"Would you like some help?" Link appreciated the offer, but shook his head.

"No thank you, Marin. You can go home."

She frowned at his rejection. She tried any way should could to get his attention. The man over at the lockers stood and walked down towards them. Link raised an eyebrow at is approach. This man raised a strange feeling in Link, almost familiar and frightening. The white haired beauty grinned mischievously and crossed his arms.

"So you're the famous Link. You look almost exactly how I remember you those many years ago," he explained. This baffled Link.

"We've met before? I don't recall ever knowing you."

The man twirled and giggled. "Well, you'll know me in due time. I suggest you enjoy your life for now and spend time with your friends…especially the pretty ones," his gaze went on Marin while his voice still directed at Link. "Soon, you won't be seeing them anymore."

Link narrowed his eyes.

'What does he mean by that?'

The man turned and started walking away, his hair swaying in the wind. He raised his hand and waved before mentioning one more thing.

"Tell Zelda I said bye." Marin covered her mouth with her hand in fear, while Link tensed.

'Who was that guy? Why does he know that I know Zelda?'

Zelda stood in the library of the University she attends. She glanced over shelves full of books about unexplained medical situations; however, none explained Links transformations into a wolf. She sighed and went over to the librarian.

"Excuse me; do you know any nonfictional books about werewolves or genetic transformations into animals?"

The librarian raised an eyebrow.

"Nonfictional? Honey, you sure have an imagination."

Zelda sighed and turned away, slightly aggravated at the sarcasm the librarian gave her, but mostly disappointment at her failure to help Link. Zelda made her way towards the library exit. Once there, she glanced straight and saw a young, green haired girl smiling at her.

'What's a kid doing at a college by herself?'

The girl advanced towards Zelda and raised a book towards her.

"I overheard you talking to the librarian and figured you might be looking for this," she offered Zelda a really thick and old looking book. "It's mine, so you don't have to check it out from this library. It explains a legend of a man who once transformed into a wolf. Perhaps maybe it could help whatever you need it for."

Okay, this was strange. First there is a girl in a college library by herself. Second, she overheard Zelda's conversation even though she was no way near her or the librarian. Third, she coincidently owns a book that Zelda needs. It was indeed strange to Zelda, and she had her doubts, but she accepted the book anyway.

"Thanks. One question…who are-"

"You can have it. Bye!" shouted the girl as she turned and ran out of the exit door. "Wait!" Zelda ran made chase, but as soon as she exited the door…the girl vanished. Zelda held the book to her chest and closed her eyes.

"Thanks…"

Thanks for those who are sending me reviews on this story. I greatly appreciate it. If you noticed, this chapter was a lot longer than the previous two. I've had a lot of free time this week. I don't know when the next chapter will be update, but I can guarantee that it will be this week. Buh-bye!
