After turning out the light in her son's room, Daphne took Niles' hand and wordlessly led him down the hall to their room. When they reached the door, Daphne turned and kissed her husband.
Niles looked at the expression on his wife's face. The wink she gave him said that, though they were headed to bed, sleep was not on her mind right now.
"Do you know how much I love you?" Daphne asked, kissing him again.
"I think I do..." Niles said breathlessly. He held both her hands in his. He was amazed, as always, at how soft her skin was.
"So, David was asking you if you've ever been scared?" she asked, genuinely curious about the conversation she had missed.
"Yes," Niles replied. "And I told him that the scariest thing I've ever faced is the thought of losing you." He took her hand and brought it to his lips, kissing it.
Daphne was touched by his answer. Sometimes she could hardly believe that Niles could love her this much, or that he'd felt this way from the moment they met. She gently kissed him one more time, then smiled at his usual dazed expression. She opened the door behind her and led him in. "I don't think you'll have to worry about that tonight..."
