A/N: I don't own The Boy in the Striped Pajamas.

This is my second one-shot for this book so hopefully it's better than the first one. I hope you enjoy it!

Here it is!

Bruno marched alongside Shmuel, stumbling every now and then. His pajamas were soaked with rain as it pounded down on the earth below them. He shivered as he looked up into the sky. It was so cold. He also had a feeling that something was going to happen. He looked up as the soldiers in front yelled "Halt!" Everyone did what they said, just like everyone did to father when he was in his handsome uniform. Bruno also did what he was told. Remembering one of the many rules there was in his home. He reached up on his tippy toes to see in front. There were about ten of them, taking their guns out of their holsters. It reminded Bruno of a western story he had once read, but this was no story. He flinched when he heard a loud BANG! Then he realized they were actually using the guns. Fear gripped him and he began backing away slowly. But, only to be stopped by Shmuel, who was also scared out of his wits.

"Where are you going?" Asked Shmuel fearfully, clinging onto Bruno's sleeve and tightening his grip. Bruno wanted to say anywhere but here, but he didn't want to leave Shmuel all alone, especially in this kind of situation.

"Nowhere, I was just moving around a little bit that's all." He said weakly, now staying in one spot. Shmuel relaxed, letting go of his arm and standing beside him quietly but, then turned around as he heard a throat clear behind them. They turned to see Lieutenant Kotler with a sinister grin on his face.

"Well, well, well. Am I getting all the luck today?" He stared at Shmuel then placed his eyes on Bruno. His eyebrows went up in surprise.

"And what are you doing here, little boy? Decided you fit in with all of these scum's?" He chuckled then shook his head slowly, walking towards them.

"Just one less thing I have to do," he said to himself then talking his gun out of his own holster. But, before Bruno could say or think anything, a loud bang went off and his ears rang at the after affects of the loud noise. From the corner of his eye he saw Shmuel crumple to the ground, his eye staring unseeingly into the gloomy sky above.

"Shmuel!" Bruno screamed helplessly while falling onto the ground, shaking Shmuel as if he was trying to wake him up. But Bruno knew that he wouldn't. He stood up and stared at Lieutenant Kotler with hate. He knows that mother always says never to say the word hate. But, it feels like that if she was here she would've let it slip for a day. He was going to say something but Lieutenant Kotler beat him to it.

"Now that I've killed your little friend here, it's your turn." He pointed the gun at Bruno's head just before he pulled the trigger; Bruno had a chance to say one word.

"Why?" But he didn't get an answer; he wouldn't have been able to hear it anyways. He was already too far gone.

But the words still carried with the whispers of the wind.

Somewhere in a house within Out-With a young girl named Maria was folding away Miss Gretel's clothing. But, not without silent tears going down her face as she heard the gunshots in the distance. She finished packing away the clothes and opened the window to let a cool breeze in since it was such a hot day. A gunshot went off in the distance again and a breeze of wind came through the window. She was almost sure that she heard the voice of a young boy say "Why?" But shook it off. After all,

It was only a whisper of the wind.

R&R! Thanks for reading!
