She awoke to warmth; radiating from the crown of her head to the curl of her toes. Before her eyes even opened, she was awake, and aware of the body that lay next to her. River Song let out a content sigh, letting her eyes flutter alive into the simulated morning light. They were in the Time Vortex and her bedroom had no windows, but the TARDIS gladly supplied a gentle glow to awaken her friends.

Donna Noble lay sleeping at her side, her back pressed against River's arm. It brought a grin to her face; Donna had stayed through the night, instead of crawling back to her bedroom before the Doctor could be any wiser about their secret rendezvous. Oh, River was sure he knew - the walls weren't that thick, nor was his head. The way she alone looked at Donna was a tell tale sign of their... whatever you call it. And when Donna thought nobody was watching, the looks she gave... River shivered despite herself, flashing back to just the night before, and how Donna's beautiful, sparkling eyes had rolled into the back of her head in sheer ecstasy. The same eyes that could follow River around the TARDIS, hungrily drinking in every sway of her hips, ever dip of her skin.

River brought her lips down against Donna's pale skin. Despite its colour, she found her flesh to be warm and inviting, begging to be caressed and kissed. She refrained herself, lazily stroking her finger down Donna's spine and back again, outlining each vertebrae with careful accuracy. She moved on to Donna's shoulders, splattered with freckles. The older woman licked her suddenly dry lips, tracing constellations in the woman's sunspots.

Donna stirred, and River knew she had went too far. The blonde withdrew her digit from Donna's fair flesh, decided instead to spoon up against her. She slid her leg between Donna's, wrapping her arm loosely around the ginger woman, resting it just below her ample, naked breasts. Donna, in return, gave a short moan before drifting back into her dream, leaving River alone, wide awake, to spend her time listening to the sound of Donna's even breathing.

But River didn't mind, not in the slightest. They was rare, these stolen occasions. Donna Noble did not belong to her, nor would she ever. She had dark days ahead, ones that would never see the light, but that was the future and, when they were together, the future didn't matter. To tell the truth, she wouldn't have minded if Donna slept for hours! Because the moment she awoke, their adventure would be over; they would go back to stolen glances and conspicuous leers. She wanted more; she wanted Donna's heart to keep, but that was impossible. For Donna was to be brilliant, to shine as bright as the stars she put back in the sky. And River would watch her from afar, in all of her glory, shine bright until she died out. But, like all stars, she'd go out with a bang.
